F-14 Tomcat Group Build idea...

I was reading Combat Aircraft Mag. and was reminded that the Tomcat is on it's way out of service so how about a Group Build to represent each 'Cat from their airwings? It may be difficult to find the decals sets but I love the 'Cat and think it would be pretty nifty. I am thinking about a mid January 05 start date and completion on or about March. If anyone has any ideas float em on up!

If it's a Jan '05 start date, count me in. I've got markings for Cats from all "eras". It's too bad the Tomcat is being replaced by something inferior but I guess all good things must come to an end, I suppose.

Excellent saltydog, bstrump, tho9900! Hopefully the list will grow. Just email me what kit you will eventually be doing(since it's a while away) at my email jonathanhc@charter.net I am working on two projects one of them for the Nav Av GB. I'll get all the info together and see if I can work us up a graphic for it in the coming months. Later guys.

If only I didn't so many GB's going on and starting in the near future...
Although, feb is still a long time ahead.............

OK, count me in for a F14-A I've got the Hasegawa 1/48 kit for the "Black Knight" History, wich provides over 5 decal-options for the same bird in different time.
I a few moment I'm going to pick-up the ejection-seats I've ordered Big Smile [:D]

I think that will be far enough ahead that I can join in. I will build a Tamiya 'Cat' converted to a 'D' model from VF-31.

and the list keeps on growing! I know it's a ways off but I am going to do the Has 1/72 14D Bounty Hunters VF-2. I think I'll try to pick up the Eduard set to go with it. College was cancelled today due to flooded roads so I am going to hit the workbench for a while before sweetie gets home. I am writing down the names that are and I'll keep track. Later fellas. Btw, a68trans-amMustang what scale is that Tamiya kit. Is that the 1/32?

Okay scratch that last. I found the Has 1/48 f-14A Jolly Rogers of VF-84. I'll prob do that with the Eduard interior set. Anybody know how good the Academy 1/48 14A is?

Have'nt build it yet, but I've got the box right in front of me now and the pieces look very nicely moulded, without any noticeble flash.
However there are some (as always with Academy) prominent ejector pinmarks. For more realism I've got myself the Airwave ejection seats Smile [:)]

Yes the Tamiya F-14 is 1/32.It is the latest release with the Black Knight decals and the LGB's

I'll be doing the Hasegawa F-14D converted to a B and use TwoBobs markings for VF-11 "Red Rippin' Muthas" in1/72 scale.

Guess what, I must have been blind while typing my last reply, it's the Hasegawa kit that I've got Confused [%-)]

And then to think that I was holding the Blackbox cockpit kit in hands yesterday, but I put back because it was for Hasegawe I had only the Academy-kit Banged Head [banghead]

Hey fellas, James that Italeri kit isn't bad at all. It had very little flash and the cockpit detail was okay... it turned out to be a good build with no major fit prob's. Hey Dan how is that Black Box cockpit? I ordered the Has 1/48 and I am still debating the markings but i would really like to do the cockpit proud. Okay here are the stipulations for the build-if I am missing something let me know!- I'll take a list of names in the next month or so but here goes:
Any Scale
Any Manufacturer
Must be a Cat
Let the detail FLY!
Start Date: January 15, 2005
End Date: March 15, 2005
I have started working on the patch since I have had a few ideas bouncing around. Gimme a couple more weeks to finish that. I just shelved the Italeri 1/72 JSF to start on the Has 1/72 Super Hornet. This is one sweet kit! If I missed anything above let me know- I'll be workin' on the Nav Av GB.

I have 3 F-14 kits. 2 Monogram and the Revell all in 1/48. The Revell kit has the wing glove vanes on it and it is the Hunt for Red October kit. I am considering the GB. I love the F-14 and the Super Hornet can't hold a candle to it. The F-14 is faster, more powerful and deadlier than anything else in the Navy now.

I had a look at the kit I have last night and my word it's BIG. I also forgot that I had the eduard f14-a detail set, 48294. I know it's for the HAS 'cat but I use some of the parts from it.

Hey Mark, I agree on the Cat being superior to the Super Hornet. It's a shame they can't update it completely and shelve that joke called the JSF. The Cat is so much prettier than anything else in the air. Even after 30 years!

The JSF and the F-22 are both a huge waste of money! And I correct myself, I also have the Super Tomcat kit from Revell. I also have Two Bobs decals for most of these kits. I may participate in this GB yet!!!

Mark, great idea! All sounds good. I wish I could blink and the Hornet would be done so I can get started on the F-14A. I ordered the Jolly Rogers 60th Anniversary scheme today and waiting for the Has 1/48 Tomcat 'A. I'm pumped and almost ready to go! I am debating on the blackbox cockpit. Have a good weekend!

I saw the decal set for the Jolly Rogers and it looks very cool! I am not using any extra sets. Too much money. I have used them in the past on other projects, but careful painting can accomplish a bunch. I am finishing the RM F-4E now. Great kit.

Good point Mark, my girl, aka the budgeter, has stated that I have surpassed my monthly kit budget so I backed off of the black box detail set. No prob though- it means I get to use my own creativlty. That's a good idea on the painting, wish I had already thought of that. Those RMonogram kits have been getting really good. I did their F-15C last year and was extremely impressed with the detail.
