Tom, I think your confusing horror with wanton lust! Wink [;)]

Anyway all, I finally have the pics readt from my first crack at the AB since... hmm a very long time ago. You may notice the 'sky' on the typhoon is a little patchy, I was running out of paint in the cup and didn't feel like filling it more so I gave everything a light dusting. The hurricane looks good in silver no?Tongue [:P]

Also check out my bf109 in the aircraft postings.Smile [:)]

I also realized that the fuselage roundel decals in the Hurricane kit are the large version, I need the smaller size, the ones just about the same size as the code lettering (the 35 inch size). Does any body have two spares?

Dave, awesome job on the Heinkel Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup] congratulations!! I have the 1/72 Hase B-25J in my stash and if it turns out as nice as your He-111 I'll be very pleased.

Jules, I don't know if you will see this any time soon but I'm really sorry to hear about your PC. It really burns me that some little Censored [censored] maggot is probably having a good laugh at what they've done. I hope you get back on line soon.

Cheers

I'll never forget the look on your face... sheer horror are the only words I can come up with...

Sorry to hear of the AB woes. Don't have any advice to give, sad to say.

This kremps lady has travelled the world I see. I just realized though, I'm not gonna get too much building done over the summer. I'm going to be gone the ENTIRETY of August to a far far far away land. If you must know, India. I will manage . to join and participate in the North Africa GB.I'm off to do some more touch up ABing on my -17 now

Jay: I used the Testors decal sheets and my Epson 777 printer to make the Red C, Black H and the Squadron Badge which was laid over a seperate white film. The H and the Badge turned out pretty good but the Red C was challenging. I laid it over a white C that came with the kit decals and it took a couple of efforts to get the right shade and shape. The Red ink also does not appear as solid as the black and looks a little splotchy under the magnifying glass. I was also too afraid to use too much micro sol on them for fear of running the inks so they are not as settled as the other decals. Overall though for a first attempt I was very happy with the result.

Bob: My eyes aren't any younger than yours I'll bet and my fingers aren't any smaller either. Just need "patience", a magnifying lamp (or optivisor) and a little bit of a crazy mentality doesn't hurt either. Big Smile [:D]

Dave-I'm even more impressed given the fact that it is 1/72nd scale. Neither my eyes nor fingers will let me think about attempting something like the He111 greenhouse in anything smaller than 1/48th. Again, great work.

Bee-u-tee-ful! Absolutely stunning work Razor. You mentioned you made your own decals, did you use a custom decal sheet like the one testors has? I seem to remember you were doing something with the red fueslage letter a while back.

No pics yet, for some reason I couldn't hook up last night to upload them. Maybe tonight.

Thanks guys for all your kind comments!

Bob: It is the Haegawa He 111 H-6 kit in 1/72. They have released or have announced a couple of other versions including a P version, another H-6 with torpedo's (why they needed to release this sepertely from the regular H-6 is beyond me) and an H-2/H-3 version.

Jules: sorry to hear about the problems with the computer. There are days when I'm glad I own a Mac, less likely to be hi-jacked like that though they have problems all their own. Good luck with the rebuild.

Razor The 111 looks great. Nicely understated, just like the real thing.

Tom Chipping is a doddle with the silver base coat. It's also great if you accidentally scratch the top coat, you can pretend you meant to do it!Wink [;)]

Rick I'm not convinced about the underside of Hasa's Hurricane, as the fabric ribbing crosses a panel line, but I haven't had a chance to dig out any photos to check it against.

I haven't posted much lately but I've been busy Big Smile [:D]

I used pastels for the exhaust stains and to shadow the airleron joints and sealed it with the MM acrylic flat. Rumaged through my wifes sewing box and found some of that invisible thread you guys have been talking about for the antenae (I love that woman of mine...). Didn't want to do too much weathering as it is supposed to be newly arrived on the BofB scene. This has been a gret kit despite my blunders and I really want to do another one someday. I notice that Hasegawa has announced the H2-3 kit for later this year. would have been nice to have it in time for this build but... there is always nest year.

One more thing, I got a head start on the North Africa GB last weekend by building this for the mad armored car GB. figure I can use it in a diorama with something. Its the Roden 1/72 sdkfz 233 with Rommel's personal command car markings. Hmmm... seems to me I saw a picture somewhere of Rommel's personnal transport plane... an He 111 if I remember... NOOOOOO!!! Must resist...

Anyway, this has been a blast and I fully intend to do it again with you guys in the NA GB, the 109 GB, next years BofB GB... etc. etc....

Well - After a frustrating afternoon I have my new DSL modem, complete with my new DSL provider operational...

I'm going to actually try the silver undercoat on one of my future builds and see how it goes... wanna try that as my attempts at chipping and all haven't been to my satisfaction.

Thanks all!!!

That underside fuselage to wing join on the Hurricane is the most difficult part of the build. Like you guys, I'm glad it's on the bottom Smile [:)].

Okay, now I know the spot you mean, yes, I found that problem too. I haven't sanded it yet, that is going to be tonights' job. Funny thing is I had a very similar problem with my Monogram Typhoon in the same spot. I also noticed that the number fo ribs on the fuselage part don't match the number in the wing!

I had actually used the silver for the idea of doing some chipping.Big Smile [:D]

Jay Someone mentioned using it a few months back, so I gave it go, and like yourself I was amazed at the results.

The other benefit is that you can scratch sections of the top coat off to reveal 'metal' beneath.

The joint I've had problems with is the one under the wing where it joins the fuselage. I ended up with a huge seam, and ended up removing most of the fabric detail in my insane quest to remove the seam. I ended up having to make a scribing tool to put back the troughs in the fabric. I'ts not great, but at least it's underneath!!!!!!!

I'll be a lot more careful next time.

I've spent the evening tidying up all those areas highlighted by the silver, and I'll post some pics at the weekend.

And How! I used it on my Hurricane last night and it showed some spots that need fixing. I don't know what you mean about the rear wing fit problems, maybe I am looking at the wrong spot. Are you talking about the horizontal stabilizers or where the trailing edge of the wing joins the fuselage.

BTW, Success! I knew if I just practised a bit more, my AB would work.Tongue [:P] Also, thanks for the tips on not thinning, it helped out a whole bunch with the paintcoverage. I've taken some pics but didn't have a chance to uplaod them yet, I'll get them on soon. You know, a silver hurricane is actually quite pretty!.Cool [8D]
