OOPS, Sorry Mike, I thought you were saying they were expensive, which at $5.00 USD per seat they kinda are, but worth the money IMHO. I use Cutting Edge quite a bit also, as their quality is also very high & they have a much broader product offering than Ultracast. But both are excellent.

Osher, if you want a Sitfire floatplane, look at the 1/24 Trumpeter kit. Tempting, but I have no idea where I'd put it after I built it.

Thanks Rick! As my wardrobes are overflowing with boxes of huge kits (I went through a phase of big is best), I know the problem. Still, in December I went on a 1/144 kick, and at least they are a little bit smaller.

Tomorrow (Saturday) I go to the model shop to collect the PE for the BoB GB, and I will try, honest, not to buy more. (last week I went to buy 1 tin of paint... OK, so the Tamiya kits were going cheap in the 2nd hand bit, really!)

Yeah right. I try that line on my wife, but it doesn't work.

I found my Africa build ... I bought myself a Saetta off eBay (great source for 'hard to find' models) ... so that will be it. Maybe I am joing Tweetys band of "Those Who Appreciate Difficult Cammo Patterns" - Tweets - we need an acronym!!

I've just received their Hurricane seat/armour set, wheel bay insert and replacement flight surfaces for my build, and they are truly gorgeous.

What's more with the current exchange rate they only cost me £14 including shipping across the pond!!!!!!!Big Smile [:D]Big Smile [:D]Big Smile [:D]Big Smile [:D]

Now I just need to clear a couple of builds and get on with the Hurricane!

We do need something, cause the camo on my 109, after I finished with the mask making etc, really seemed quite easyBig Smile [:D]

But, The 129 I plan to do for the Nth African GB will have a camo pattern from HELL!!!

I have ALWAYS wanted to find a plane I liked so I could finally get the squiggle camo monkey off my back, and it will be the 129!!

Going to Pledge the 109 tonight, and maybe get some decals on by Sunday if things calm down round hereAngry [:(!]
So what stage is everyone else up to??

"So what stage is everyone else up to??"
--------------------
--Sean--

Putty generously applied to the He111-hope to sand tonight. Still need to mask off the canopy & such. Maybe get it primed this weekend. Still tossing around thoughts as to how to achieve the night camo scheme.

Quick question for the group-what is the difference between Squadron's green & white putties, other than color? Or is there any?

Thanks

Bob

Bob, I think the grade of the putty is the differance.
Ones coarser than the other, but I'm not 100% sure.
I use Tamiya putty, always have, always will!! To date it has never let me down.
I'm on my second tube now, and I have been back into modelling for 3 years I think.

Jules I just remembered something I did on the Sabre!
I'll post it on the Aussie GB.

Sean-Thanks for the info and recommendation.

The wing to fuselage gaps aren't quite as bad as I had initally thought after starting work last night. However, the engine to wing gaps are bad, along with the general fuselage fit. Oh well, it will give me something to do on a cold snowy evening.....humm..maybe a diorama of a crashed He111...nah.

Bob I will have to agree with tweety on the putty, one is coarser than the other but I cant tell a difference (IMHO).

I have never used the white putty but I thought the difference was that the green was faster drying than the white?

Started working on my Hasegawa He 111 last night. After building that Huma kit for Mad Komet Day this kit is a real pleasure to work with. Won't be using much of that putty at all! Big Smile [:D]

I used Swanny's techinque of using fingernail polish remover to smooth down the putty immediatly after applying it. He recommended white, so that's what I used. Worked well.

Squadron White is supposed to be finer grain than the Green, but I never found any real difference between them.

That's funny Rick, in practice I've found the green a finer consistency, and swear by it myself. I find the nail polish remover and cotton swab method works well for clean up on the green, but has made a hedious mess when I used it with the white.

But, as always YMMV

Only go by what I'm told at the LHS. I don't use Squadron putty at all these days, but used to use the Green. Now, I use CA or Porc-A-Filler.

well well well.... the cat's away, the mice come out to play I see! Wink [;)]

As far as the squadron green or white they dry in about the same time... the white is finer to me... so I use the green for big things and finish up in white.. or just white... haven't tried those others Rick... I need to ask next time I am down at the "good" hobby shop...

Tweety... thought I gave old Nurse Kremps the slip, but she caught me when I was sleeping and tied me to the bed with dental floss... that old broad packs a punch to her! Oh yeah I need to find the review I saw the other night of a 129 in zebra stripes.. I thought of you when I saw it! Very detailed, also would be hard to mask it so all those tiny stripes matched on curves...

Where's Jules make off to? Nurse Kremps give him a thrashing as well???? Wouldn't surprise me after what HE did!!! Taped Shut [XX] Probably wouldn't be appropriate to say it out loud here!

Well 0% progress on the SBD or the Martlet either one... but tomorrow morning marks the day I kick it in! I might just have to forego modeling in the week though as it is very busy there, plus I have two classes I am booked for in the coming weeks and those always make me VERY sleepy!

Off to harrass the rest of the forum! Be back later!

Where I am? Getting the PE for the bf-109 & bf-110 in a few hours (it's 2am now), and then, er, finishing my Komet for the MKD GB. After that getting down to the bf-110, and maybe the bf-109 too. I've also go to the do something on my Churchill, as I proposed for my IPMS that the theme of the next meet is 'People and Places', so I must have a finished model for that (seeing how I proposed it!). Then there is my BoB Spit, my infamous Mig-15 for the GB, and 2 Macchi 1/144 scale jobs, that need a complex mottle. Busy? Er, yep! I will also try and not buy a kit at the shop, really!

That's a whole lot of building to do Osher. I try & keep it at no more than 3 at a time in order to avoid confusion & Ulcers.

Yeah Tom the old girl caught me in the South tunnel, here i was minding my own buisness just trying to dig us out and then i caught the odour of Kremps drifting down the dimly lit passage and i knew i was in trouble, i tried to fight her off but to no avail, her 300 pounds was just too much for meSad [:(]....I've been in solitary since and have only just got outWink [;)]

Well I dry fitted the fuselage halves of the old Monogram Spitfire together today, scratched my head, thought about getting the Tamiya Spitfire out of the stash and then put the whole affair away.

However, seeing I love building older kits, the Monogram offering should be a neat little challenge to build!

Just need an Ultracast seat now!

cheers

Mike

The old Monogram Spit will definitely be more of a challenge than the Tamiya. Hope you do well with it.

yeah the old warhorse can move pretty fast for her size... kind of like the Rhinoceros that charged our van at the wildlife park a couple of years ago... learned a lesson then, if you can pace yourself she tires fast... then you move in like a hyena... don't let her get ya on the ground though... that's her territory, she'll rip you to shreds in no time... speaking of that I hope she didn't latch into Sean... haven't seen him much lately...

Well in scant moments I will either be masking the Martlet or finishing the SBD, haven't decided yet. I had to go grocery shopping first this morning because if the wife goes with me, we end up spending too much... she's like a little kid pulling things off the shelf!

In my house it's just the opposite. My wife refuses to let me go into a Supermarket. I can't resist all of the goodies & blow our Grocery budget in no time.

Canopy has been masked! Glad I went with the pre-cut rather than taping & liquid mask route-the nose canopy is a bear. Finished sanding, need to attach the glass work to the plane with rubber cement (easily removable later) and maybe get the thing primed this pm. Debated on using the earlier RM 65/70/71 (I think) however, my LHS doesn't carry anything close in a spray can. Short of buying an air brush, think I'll stick with the grey/black night camo scheme. Work schedule requires a road trip early next week, so I'll be lucky to get much else done before next weekend. Sorry for the quality of the pic. As an update, it was hard to paint the nose canopy-will the mask work or not-time will tell.

good job Bob! I know you were worried about the masking on that... from what I can see it went good for ya!

Well, got a lot done today, just not on the Martlet or the SBD... ends up I worked on the Bassett Mk. III acquired this afternoon... kind of a surprise when I got the call to come pick it up! so far the camo looks good.. a nice white underside, with black uppers and a brown spotting pattern... the nose is kinda odd though, a gloss black! This one is a beauty and I am sure it will grow on me... so far it's gone great with only a minor mishap on the kitchen floor.. Sad [:(]

here is the progress so far!

Good work Bob, that canopy can drive one to drink. Maybe not a bad thing actually Smile [:)].

Tom, great looking Pup. We have a Corgi these days, but had a nice little Bassett about 35 years ago. Nice dogs.

good to know Rick. this one has a personality you just can't say no to easily.. very inquisitive and loving... he's already become "daddy's boy" after a few hours here.. follows me everywhere... if I go in a room he has to come looking for me.

We have two other adult dogs who are still not sure about him... they are gentle and don't mind him much.. they are just not sure where this leaves them in the family line up... one is an adult Catahoula hound and although he adores the puppy he is a bit assertive so far when it comes to his bed... the other is a border collie who is still a bit scared of him. (Frank, the border collie is a rescued dog from the SPCA so he still has a few issues and I think he is feeling left out with the new puppy)

Trouble is now to find a name for him... we've been calling him "Doggy" so much today it is starting to stick haha... (more like Dawgy, we are Texans ya know)
