After an aborted start (anyone remember my Miles Master Fighter project?), I finally decided on a Fujimi 1/72 bf-110 (and probably a bf-109). A second aborted start, when I realised that I really need a PE kit & decals, and so I change subject to a Monogram1/48 Spit Mk.II. Then I was encouraged by Tom to go back to the bf-110, found suitable decals and PE and so a third start! Now the build is finally underway. Not sure about the second aircraft, the bf-109, better assign that to the maybe catagory. These builds are taking long than I anticipated!

Actually, this has been a really inspirational GB. There have been so many excellent models being built here, and so fast. I just hope my bf-110 meets muster when finally completed.

Well, the cockpit is part finished. I'm building the instrument panel by using Humbrol 21 (gloss black). On that I will place the PE (painted RLM02), and then use some Clearfix (for the first time ever in this way) to represent 'glass'. Of course, I'm also building a few other kits at the same time, but I've learnt my lesson. Yep, yesterday, giving the scuttle top of the Komet a second coat, I thought it looked too light, then realised I had used the Humbrol 164 from my MiG 15 build, rather than RLM66! Oh well, at least it now looks OK. When the cockpit looks more presentable, I'll post some pictures (there is a lot of PE to be shaped, painted and glued).

Thanks Tanky! you might say I raised YOU from a pup as well! Wink [;)] And might I add you are quite the star hound yourself! From 1 star to three in the blink of an eye! Also what kind of dog do you have? I have 3... a Catahoula hound (do a google search), a Border Collie (EXTREMELY smart!!!) and now this one.. a "bassett hound/beagle/little black dog that dug under the fence" mix... finally the other two are coming to grips that they are still part of the family and I am not selling them to the glue factory tomorrow as a result of the pup arriving... hate to tell the missus but this is all the room for doggies our house has.. we have about 2 acres to play on but not near that much inside the house...

Osher - good work! and don't worry about making muster, Kremps is on a lark again with Tweets so there'll be no muster in the morning! Laugh [(-D]Laugh [(-D]Laugh [(-D]

seriously... we're not here to judge each other... especially this group which I am really enjoying. I think everyone here is a darn good modeller just to attempt the builds we are doing! (and camo, might I say again my good friend Sean.. you DO pick some doozy camo jobs!!!) Everything I have seen so far is exemplary... mainly because it is in the best spirit of modeling! I am glad you went back to the 110. Didn't want to see ya give up! Especially since I believe you are the only one building a 110 at the moment! (I think I will reserve mine for a "fun" build as I started it the week before this GB started..)

Just curious... what's Clearfix? one thing I have learned here is we all have the same tools, just a LOT of different names for them!!!

Thanks Paul!!! :)

Yeah the puppy is an ongoing project, couldnt find any PE for him so it is a pure scratch built job... so far the hardest part for me is figuring out how to get him to sit still long enough to glue a propeller to his nose!!!! Wink [;)]

thanks for the comment on the Martlet... I really didn't expect to be building a F4F in a Battle of Britain GB.. I believe it was Darren that turned me on to the idea... even though it wasn't so long ago it is kinda hazy now (like the sun room at Happy Acres on bingo night... so many smokers! Wink [;)] but a lot better than boxing night! Nurse Kremps still holds the trophy!) But so far this has been one of the more enjoyable kits I have built, for all its simplicity... the best thing I can say (and have kept on saying) not ONE spot of putty on the entire aircraft!!!

---edit---

as far as join marks... I found early on that Tenax-7 didnt work the greatest on Rudy (the pup) I stuck at it till I found out peanut butter made him a lot happier!!!

Progress on the Spitfire has slowed to almost a standstill over the last couple of days because of real life butting into my modeling. The cockpit is pretty much done and just needs a couple of touch-ups here and there. I'll post some pics in a day or two.

Tom - Congratulations on your 2000th post. I'm not going to say you spend too much time here because this build would be pretty quiet without you.

Sean (Tweets) - Real sorry to here about your family probs, I hope it's nothing too serious and you can get back into the swing of things soon. Oh and I do not want to know what you did with the string Big Smile [:D]

Everybody, great work on the builds guys, if progress to date is anything to go by the final products should be fantastic.

Cheers

Humbrol Clearfix? I don't know what an American version is called. It's a sort of clear liquid that can either be used for fixing clear parts, with no misting, or for creating small clear areas. On the Airfix 1/72 Concorde, you create the windows by appling some Clearfix in a corner, and 'pulling' it over to the next corner (it's consistency is like jelly)

Rick, congradualtions on hitting 4,000 posts and I also just noticed you took post number 1,000 of this thread.

WOW!!! One thousand posts for one thread. Course... most of them have been by a couple nutty Aussie's and a Texan but it has been fun none the less.

Aurora: good start on the cane. Keep the pics coming!

Thanks, rj, but that was the easy part. I have to sand, sand and sand! I should have taken more care on the wingroots. I have a slight hight difference at the fuselage join.

razordws, thanks and your He-111 is looking good. I've got that kit too so I'm looking forward to see yours completed.

I finally got something to show you guys. Big Smile [:D]This is my scratch harness. I think it looks okay but then again this is my first attempt in like 10 years. I'll have to show you the rest of the Hasegawa cockpit once I get it together. You can see I did a booboo, I tried to add a wash to the seat but I guess the silver I had added for the worn look wasn't set yet or it was the same type as the wash (flat black tamya thinned a lot). It made the silver run and now the seat looks whitish and sun bleached! Dunce [D)]oh well, live and learn!Smile [:)]

Looks good Jay. It's usually a good idea to do the wash first & then dry brush aluminum last. BTW, the seats in Spits were Bakelite, so anyone doing a Spit shouldn't follow Jay's lead on the metal abrasion.

Got a few more decals on today.
With some luck, will have all the decals laid on by Sunday, then start assy on the remainding parts.
Home front won't be right for a while, but hopefully my hobby time will remove alot of the stress.
Kinda bummed by how the building schedule has diminished so suddenlyShock [:O]
Had the first 6 months banged up chockas with builds, now looks like I will have to drop out of some, just to finish the 2 I will enjoy most, this one and the Aussie GB.
AND I miss out on all of Toms intuitive humour (read-dribble), and Jules' witty rebutals (read-Just as bad as Tom!)

Well I got my wings glued to my HE 111 fuse and I got gaps so big it would be hard to jump them on a bike. They are filled now and I have been sanding for the last two nights. I am taking the night off because my arm is sore, but other than the gaps she is coming along nicely. Yes Rick I am still whining(lol).

Oh wow, I lose my internet access for a few days and looks at the insanity that I missed! Wink [;)]

Tweety, I hope that things sort out and you get back to modeling as much as you would wish. I know the pain of life's ups and downs bumping your modeling to 'last thing I have time for' status.

Congrats on the posting milestones Rick and Tom.

Aurora and Jay--great looking work so far. And Tom, I would love to see some more of that Martlett, not to mention some more pics from Rick's build.

As for me, I'm waiting for my aftermarket junk to arrive to finish the Hurricane, so I've moved onto completing a couple of scratchbuild projects (a 1/72 Iltis, and a 1/350 Victoria Class SSK), but I have LOTS of time to work on my modeling now that I'm unemployed (as of last Friday--an event perpetrating my lack of internet access). Guess that's what happens when you bump into an owner's ego.

Anyone know of any IT Project Management positions in the Calgary area? Big Smile [:D]

Sorry to hear about the employment issues Sean (in Calgary). Been there done that wih the boss ego thingBlack Eye [B)]. Hang in there, something will come up.

Congrats on the posting milestones Rick and Tom, I can only dream of it at this point Bow [bow](less than 30 for me whoohoo! long way to go)

Sean, are you planning on attending the RMMC meeting Feb 13th, I would like to try and get out to see what they are like.

Aurora, you have the Hasegawa or arifix hurricane? and in what scale? I was dry fitting mine (Hasegawa) and it didn't seem to be too bad at the wings roots.

jboutin,
I have the Airfiix in 1/48. I should have filed away from the fuselage assembly to seat in in the wing section better. Did you see the build of a Hasegawa Hurricane by Pixilater in the Aircraft forums? That's real nice.

Yeah, too bad Pix isn't in on this GB. He's one of the very best builders on the Forum. His Hurricane is Beautiful. I'll post some progress pics soon. I'm just letting everything cure real well before I handle the model & apply a Future topcoat for the decals.

Aurora, I did see the model of Pix's hurricane, very good!. I also have seen a review of the kit I am doing from one of the model clubs here in Calgary you can see it at:
http://www.rockymountainmodelclub.com/articles/a034.htm

I can only hope that some day I'll be able to do builds like that.
tonight: the rest of the cockpit!Tongue [:P]

Jay, no question now that I'm picking up that Hasegawa kit--what a beauty! Add to that some Ultracast and Eduard parts....and I'm going to quickly spend my severance package! Big Smile [:D]

As for the RMMC meeting, I'd like to go, but my daughter has some minor surgery on the 10th--and I'm not sure if she's staying with her mother afterwards or with me (depends on who she 'chooses' to go with according to my ex) and how she feels if she is with me. In either case, if I'm there I'll either be alone or with a small bandadged modeler Wink [;)]

As for my personal progress, just puttering around with some details. I scratchbuilt a rough wheel well for the hurricane (no real detail as the wheels will be up) and cut out the spent casing ejector ports for the machine guns on the underside of the wings. I'm not really happy with the paint job on the underside of the bird, so I'm likely going to strip it and redo her--maybe even in that awful duck-egg blue (yech)

A pic:

Damn, I really need to learn how to take pictures. Tongue [:P]
