Darren

Certainly are, just started it last night :)

I decided to get the Ultracast seat for my Tamiya kit. I will use some PE or the kit supplied harness decals on this kit to keep the build nice and simple!

cheers

Tanky: I have a set of larger crosses that measures 23mm across that has the thin black outline on the outside of the white. A bit smaller but should be okay if you want them. I can also provide you with the swaztika if you give me an idea of the size. I have an aftermarket sheet with several sizes on it. No luck with the unit numbers.

I've been slowly plugging away on my He 111. I have most of the main airframe parts on and filled/sanded and now I'm plugging away on the cockpit. This is one of those rare kits that you can detail the pit after putting the frame together . Should have some pics in a day or two.

It was from AeroMaster Sheet # 48-224. Afraid it's long OOP & very hard to find these days. I was hoping they would re-issue the sheet, but not so far. Also, at one time they indicated there would be a follow up new release with additional Tuskegee birds, but hasn't happened so far.

Hey guys, Finally got my progress pics of the pit. I just hope I can compare to others, being out of it for a while can really show sometimes.

Rick, 400+ built OMG[:0]Bow [bow] Thats insane (but a good gentle kind of insaneWink [;)])! Like others that would take me like 100 years to get that far. Right now I am on pace to do 4 a year?Smile [:)]

here is my pit

You can't really see the future on the dials but it looks good in real life.
With this detail I couldn't bare to cover it so I went and got the Squadron Vacform Canopy so I could open it. So the only things AM on the plane so far is the scratch belts, the scratch compass (You might be able to see it f you look hard), and soon the canopy and of course the decals. This is so much fun! I'm already thinking of the next one! maybe a Zero for the Pearl Harbour GB?

oops, the top one is kinda fuzzy, damn wobbly hands and digital cameras.Angry [:(!]

Nice looking pit Jay. You really need a tripod for close up pics to avoid the blurs.

That's looking real good Jay, wouldn't know your hands are rusty (just wobbly when holding a camera Big Smile [:D]) Did you hand paint those dials or is there a decal underneath?

I'm thinking I've got to move up to a larger scale. All this 1/72 teeny stuff is starting to get to me, might even have to check into Happy Acres eventually. Maybe in 8 years when the kids start moving out and I can have one of the bedrooms for display/storage (ya right... like that will ever happen).

Thanks for the comments guys,

Thad, the kit is the Hase 1:48 Mk1.(very nice kit)

Razordws, I drybrushed the dials with white, I didn't do the ring of the dial as in some ref pics (colour and BW) I had, they really didn't stand out. I've seen some people do it that way but to me it just didn't look right.

Does any body use an airtank?? I posted an issue I have with pressure and my regulator in the airbrush section. I only have two relpies and I want to try to get it resolved asap.

The jist is, I fill my tank to 100psi, I set the regulator to 20-30psi and the whole system pressures up to the tank pressure (The tank gauage and the regulator show the same pressure) so that when I press my airbrush trigger I get a big burst of pressurized air that quickly goes down to 30psi but each time I release the trigger the pressure goes way back up to the tank pressure. Do I have the regulator on wrong or is it a crappy regulator?Confused [%-)] I just want to have 20-30psi when I press the trigger, not a big burst the trickles down to the correct pressure.Grumpy [|(]Angry [:(!]Taped Shut [XX]

Jay, I'm not an expert on regulators, but it sounds like a serious problem with yours. My System has 2 regulators. The input one to the tank, I have set at 80psi at which point the auto shut off kicks in. The output regulator is set to the pressure I want to use for the AB, usually about 20psi. I've never experienced a burst like you describe.

Jay your cockpit looks great, nice job!

Sorry but my compressor is the non air tank sort, but it sounds like your regulator has a serious problem.

Tanky - all I have on my sheet near what ya need are the 1.3cm ones... either Razor can supply ya both or I can send the 1.3 ones to ya... let me know... I have your moms address at work still in email if you need em I can send em there... if he doesn't have swastikas I have some of those too...

Jay - exemplary looking cockpit!!! impressive, and if those hands of yours are rusty then I can't wait to see ya clean em off!!! On the regulator thing, I haven't seen that type of thing, I would think something is wrong with your regulator though... doesn't sound normal... I have a compressor with a tank and just one regulator and have never had that happen...

Karl - thanks! no work on the Martlet again tonight, the insurance adjuster is coming tomorrow to look at where it rained in my house the other night... so I spent the evening cleaning and looking after Rudy (the pup)... after all that I decided a nice cold one was in order... so sitting back relaxing for the rest of the evening... tomorrow evening I will hit it hard though to hopefully finish this evening... the decals and paint for the RAAF Typhoon came in today... which means the kit itself should be here tomorrow or Saturday.. so the sooner I finish this one the sooner I can start on it!

Well gonna go play some computer games and relax... it's been a loooooong day!

Rick, it's the Hasegawa Mk Ib with the car door canopy... the Aussie Typhoons were the cardoor versions... have you built this one? I am hoping it is as good as the He111 looks to be! I think I remember someone (maybe you and Darren... ) mentioning the cockpit fit was a little difficult...

I've built 2 of the car door & 1 regular. Thay are very nice kits. The rear deck of the fuselage is a little tricky to get a good fit, but patience pays off. I don't recall any problem with the interior fit.

Okay, after my last post I've been working hard on the Cockpit and managed to finish most of it. All I have left is the instrument panel and overhead panel which are part of the canopy so its a seperate issue. By the way, anyone have any suggestions on attaching PE to clear parts? I used Eduards prepainted cockpit set (the small set) and although the parts were teeny tiny I think you will agree that it was worth it. Remember, this is 1/72 scale. Next week... masking!!!! Dead [xx(]Banged Head [banghead]Boohoo [BH]

Tanky: send me an email with your address and the size of the swaztika and I will mail that and the big cross set to you.

Jay: I use an air tank and have never experienced anything like what you've described. Sorry I can't be of help. If I get a chance I'll ask one of my brother's that worked in the welding supply business.

Nicodemus: The hurricane is looking good.

cheers

Raz Firstly, nice pit!!!
Personally I use CA to attach the PE to my clear parts.
After they have been Futured, the CA will not craze the plastic.
It's all good.
Or you can use a small drop of Future to secure it in place, just takes longer to cure than CA.

Have been away a while folks, and haven't gone near the 109 in a week, but tonight I plan to do a whole bunch to it, so maybe by Sunday, I'll have some pics to post.

Jay, nice cockpit work mate, quite impressive!!

Rick400+ builds qualifies you as an addict!!!!

Nicodemus - looking good! a very nice paint job!!

Tweety - Happy Acres has a substance abuse program for disabled modelers... maybe it could help? Word to the wise: Lunchalot says the next time you come into the TV room wrapped in nothing but BMF she is locking you in your room!

Tanky - tell me where to send the small crosses to and I will be happy to send them!

Razor - impressive cockpit!!!

Rick - thanks for the advice... I've tackled a couple of kits recently with problems at the rear fuselage... I'm game for this one!!!

Nick-nice Hurricane, very nice. Must put that on my 'to-do' list.

Dave-I am in awe with your interior-1/72nd no less. That is going to look so good with the He111 greenhouse nose. You are pushing me to try PE sometime soon. Question-is the pre-painted worth the difference in price? The results are striking, to say the least.

Thanks for the kind words guys.

Bob: I think the prepainted set was worth it, totally!!! If you look at the rear panels and the seat belts there is no way I could do that in this scale. The small set for this kit is $15 but you can find it cheaper on line (Great models lists it for $11).

Sean: Thanks for the tip. I've never done PE on clear parts before. However I've decided to put some strips of styrene inside the U-chanel of the overhead panel and then I can just glue it as I normally would.

I have a question for those of you who are also building the He 111 for this build. As you know most kits are of the H-6 version and while there is very little difference between the H-4 (last BoB version) and the H-6 I'm just wondering what those differences are? The Hasegawa kit includes a bunch of extra pieces for earlier and later versions so I have a bit of a dilema. My research so far suggests that the H-4 did not have waist guns in the side windows and I'm betting that the forward nose gun was upgraded at the same time with the H-6. The H-6 was also upgraded to carry torpedoes. When did they start carrying external bombs? When did the exhaust pipes go from a single pipe to individual pipes? Any other differences I should know about.

Thanks for your help.

Dave,

Here is a website that I used to get my paint scheme-might play around with the address and find an English version or the pics may help-click & enlarge type thing.
