Looks good Jay. It's usually a good idea to do the wash first & then dry brush aluminum last. BTW, the seats in Spits were Bakelite, so anyone doing a Spit shouldn't follow Jay's lead on the metal abrasion.

I finally got something to show you guys. Big Smile [:D]This is my scratch harness. I think it looks okay but then again this is my first attempt in like 10 years. I'll have to show you the rest of the Hasegawa cockpit once I get it together. You can see I did a booboo, I tried to add a wash to the seat but I guess the silver I had added for the worn look wasn't set yet or it was the same type as the wash (flat black tamya thinned a lot). It made the silver run and now the seat looks whitish and sun bleached! Dunce [D)]oh well, live and learn!Smile [:)]

Thanks, rj, but that was the easy part. I have to sand, sand and sand! I should have taken more care on the wingroots. I have a slight hight difference at the fuselage join.

razordws, thanks and your He-111 is looking good. I've got that kit too so I'm looking forward to see yours completed.

Rick, congradualtions on hitting 4,000 posts and I also just noticed you took post number 1,000 of this thread.

WOW!!! One thousand posts for one thread. Course... most of them have been by a couple nutty Aussie's and a Texan but it has been fun none the less.

Aurora: good start on the cane. Keep the pics coming!

Tom: Congradulations on turning 2000 (and you joined when?). Also, did you see Joe's write up on the Hasegawa He 111 in modeling madness today?

Humbrol Clearfix? I don't know what an American version is called. It's a sort of clear liquid that can either be used for fixing clear parts, with no misting, or for creating small clear areas. On the Airfix 1/72 Concorde, you create the windows by appling some Clearfix in a corner, and 'pulling' it over to the next corner (it's consistency is like jelly)

Progress on the Spitfire has slowed to almost a standstill over the last couple of days because of real life butting into my modeling. The cockpit is pretty much done and just needs a couple of touch-ups here and there. I'll post some pics in a day or two.

Tom - Congratulations on your 2000th post. I'm not going to say you spend too much time here because this build would be pretty quiet without you.

Sean (Tweets) - Real sorry to here about your family probs, I hope it's nothing too serious and you can get back into the swing of things soon. Oh and I do not want to know what you did with the string Big Smile [:D]

Everybody, great work on the builds guys, if progress to date is anything to go by the final products should be fantastic.

Cheers

Thanks Paul!!! :)

Yeah the puppy is an ongoing project, couldnt find any PE for him so it is a pure scratch built job... so far the hardest part for me is figuring out how to get him to sit still long enough to glue a propeller to his nose!!!! Wink [;)]

thanks for the comment on the Martlet... I really didn't expect to be building a F4F in a Battle of Britain GB.. I believe it was Darren that turned me on to the idea... even though it wasn't so long ago it is kinda hazy now (like the sun room at Happy Acres on bingo night... so many smokers! Wink [;)] but a lot better than boxing night! Nurse Kremps still holds the trophy!) But so far this has been one of the more enjoyable kits I have built, for all its simplicity... the best thing I can say (and have kept on saying) not ONE spot of putty on the entire aircraft!!!

---edit---

as far as join marks... I found early on that Tenax-7 didnt work the greatest on Rudy (the pup) I stuck at it till I found out peanut butter made him a lot happier!!!

Thanks Tanky! you might say I raised YOU from a pup as well! Wink [;)] And might I add you are quite the star hound yourself! From 1 star to three in the blink of an eye! Also what kind of dog do you have? I have 3... a Catahoula hound (do a google search), a Border Collie (EXTREMELY smart!!!) and now this one.. a "bassett hound/beagle/little black dog that dug under the fence" mix... finally the other two are coming to grips that they are still part of the family and I am not selling them to the glue factory tomorrow as a result of the pup arriving... hate to tell the missus but this is all the room for doggies our house has.. we have about 2 acres to play on but not near that much inside the house...

Osher - good work! and don't worry about making muster, Kremps is on a lark again with Tweets so there'll be no muster in the morning! Laugh [(-D]Laugh [(-D]Laugh [(-D]

seriously... we're not here to judge each other... especially this group which I am really enjoying. I think everyone here is a darn good modeller just to attempt the builds we are doing! (and camo, might I say again my good friend Sean.. you DO pick some doozy camo jobs!!!) Everything I have seen so far is exemplary... mainly because it is in the best spirit of modeling! I am glad you went back to the 110. Didn't want to see ya give up! Especially since I believe you are the only one building a 110 at the moment! (I think I will reserve mine for a "fun" build as I started it the week before this GB started..)

Just curious... what's Clearfix? one thing I have learned here is we all have the same tools, just a LOT of different names for them!!!

After an aborted start (anyone remember my Miles Master Fighter project?), I finally decided on a Fujimi 1/72 bf-110 (and probably a bf-109). A second aborted start, when I realised that I really need a PE kit & decals, and so I change subject to a Monogram1/48 Spit Mk.II. Then I was encouraged by Tom to go back to the bf-110, found suitable decals and PE and so a third start! Now the build is finally underway. Not sure about the second aircraft, the bf-109, better assign that to the maybe catagory. These builds are taking long than I anticipated!

Actually, this has been a really inspirational GB. There have been so many excellent models being built here, and so fast. I just hope my bf-110 meets muster when finally completed.

Well, the cockpit is part finished. I'm building the instrument panel by using Humbrol 21 (gloss black). On that I will place the PE (painted RLM02), and then use some Clearfix (for the first time ever in this way) to represent 'glass'. Of course, I'm also building a few other kits at the same time, but I've learnt my lesson. Yep, yesterday, giving the scuttle top of the Komet a second coat, I thought it looked too light, then realised I had used the Humbrol 164 from my MiG 15 build, rather than RLM66! Oh well, at least it now looks OK. When the cockpit looks more presentable, I'll post some pictures (there is a lot of PE to be shaped, painted and glued).

I love doggies. I have one my self. 2 and a half year old puppy. OK so she's aint a puppy but I call her one anyway. I remember you he;ping me out when I was still a snap together member ahh those were the days.

Tweets, sorry to hear about the situation.. we've really missed having you here... the third musketeer has been gone for too long!

Kremps told me why she bought you the X-box by the way... something to do with she took the money out of her war pension (seems she was an attack dog in a K-9 unit, spent a year in the phillipines!) because you told her she looked nice one day... boy if I knew sucking up to old knobby knees would get me that I'd even tell her her hair looked nice once in awhile!!!

Well decided to let the martlet dry another night... no use rushing something and having it come out a mess after it has gone so well so far! Future can wait till tomorrow then some slight weathering and decals on Thur or Fri night... in the meantime I *might* work on the undercarraige tonight... depends on how tired I get... been pretty sleepless with the new pup so might turn in early...

Well enjoy! great to see everyone's builds!!!

And Tweets, Kremps mentioned she had something for you and she was carrying a large bag so be ready!!!

Great to see others getting at their models. My hurricane is going so slowly. Life interferes way too much Sigh [sigh]! Oh well. I still have only a bit of the cockpit done. Thanks for the pics of the ultracast seat and the sutton harness, they have come in real handy (almost finished my scratch belts). I'll have to show you the result once I borrow a digital camera.

Hey guys, see things have been the usual since my absence.!!!

Well, having some family troubles atm, so modeling has hit the bottom rung on the priority ladderSad [:(]
I have managed to finish the paint scheme, and have laid some decals on the 109, but haven't gone near it in 3 days, and will be a few more before I get the chance.
With the way things are, the Defiant will not happen for this GB.
I knew this year started out to well.Sigh [sigh]

Good too see everyones going wellThumbs Up [tup].

Jules, that X box was a reward for not wetting my bed in 3 days!!
I told ya string has 1001 usesSmile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Bob and Tom your builds are coming along great. I always love getting to the painting stage as it really starts to look like something. I can't believe you painted the lego BobShock [:O] (there are some lego fanatics in my house)!! I'm not quite there yet with my build but thought I'd post a progress pic as I got the wings on tonight. Sur is a graceful looking bird. Tom, you're going to love this build when you get to it.

ok after going back and looking at them those werent the best pics I have taken.. I used the flash because I was in a rush, and I didnt want to move the model as it had just been painted scant minutes before... too much glare on it.. will post more before futuring tomorrow night...

I just realized it DID have the "Y" pattern, just extending onto the fuselage and cowl... I guess they made the pattern smaller as time went by so it was moved to the wing...

Intersting thing is this thing had an all Dk Sea Grey upper cowl... I guess worried about glare... not sure why and still have not recieved any good input on the martlet even on the faa-sig forum..

ok, I will close now.. just wanted to input some more on it as I am over a major hurdle (the first time I masked Vallejo acrylics) they are water based I am sure which is why I was worried... WONDERFUL paints... they look a little mottled right after spraying but settle right down to a nice even sheen and hug the details like you wouldn't believe!!! The more I use them the more indispensable they get!
