oooooh...... I love those peppermints... those are the ones that are like crunchy but light when you bite into them? (not hard like the round disks) Great work on the paint!!! Looking forward to the rest, I am anxious to start my Hasegawa He-111...

Well I did it today folks!!! amidst play intermissions with the puppy I got the Martlet masked and painted... I used low-tack frisket for the wings, I blew up the instructions, placed it over the frisket and cut into it with the Xacto knife to get my masking... then I followed through on the body where the frisket ended with purple painters masking tape.. came out ok!!! I see a few places to dab with a brush, and actually see two cuts into the fuselage that I don't remember seeing when I primed... Oh well I might brush some darked paint over it to make it look alike a infield touch up or something... in the pics you see some fuzz on the body and that is just left over from the tape.. I will clean it tomorrow when the Extra Dk Sea Grey dries...

the Martlet as of today:

---edit---

oh yeah!!! I almost forgot! I decided the landing gear color on the Martlet was white upper cylinders with dk sea blue (usn color) legs... I looked at several color war photos which looked like a dark grey or black, then at some museum examples, one from the FAA Museum in England, all of them used the scheme I mentioned. My thought is this was close or the same colors the US Wildcats used for the most part... so maybe the FAA felt no need to change it as they were delivered as such and were not a major part of the scheme and not seen in flight... anyway that's my story and I'm sticking to it...

This was a bit diferent than the RAF schemes I have done, there wasn't the classic "Y" shape pattern on one wing I am used to. I imagine because these were done bu Grumman, or because of different regs but the decal set instructions matched pretty much what photos I could find of Martlet Mk I's... more like lines than the curves seen on later AC...

Anyway, I am excited because tomorrow night I should be able to future, the next (hopefully) weather a bit... and be on to the decals I am sure by the weekend!!!

Hey all-thanks for the encouraging words on the masking. Think it will be worth the effort.
Ended up priming and getting the base grey on. Next step will be a coat of gloss on the underside to allow for some weathering of the flat black that will be applied. Planning on trying to weather the grey a bit with chalk pastels. Then comes the molted black. Another challenge. Anyway, here is a progress pic.

same here... my dogs are blissfully ignorant of my hobbies... unfortunately not their hair.. it's an ongoing battle with it as both shed a lot... (Although I bet Rudy the puppy would love to sink his teeth into one of my kits given the opportunity)

(although, sadly, not now)... HUHHH?!?!? I like cats but I am seriously looking forward to the day when I will be free of them. The Siamese (my wife's cat) that we have is pure evil Evil [}:)]!!!!! (anyone seen Disney's Lady and the Tramp).

The He 111 is coming along beautifully. Should have the fuse and wings glued together tonight and then I can start detailing the pit.

Haven't had any trouble with my Corgi. I don't think dogs are as big a model hazard as cats. Only thing I have to watch out for is dog hair in my painting. Corgi's do shed A LOT.

::paranoid look:: you have a clock radio??? (looking at broken wall clock in my room) I did notice Kremps gave you an extra lump of fat with your gruel the other day... it's all making sense now...

Rick... great! See you are going to outpace me even though I got off to a jump start... Rudy is taking a lot of my time to get him accustomed to the house... he's a little devil! Evil [}:)] in as much trouble as he can manage between every nap! I hope to get the Martlet masked and painted... decided to put it ahead of the SBD as I need to get the masking off the canopy soon for fear of it sticking too much...

Well, finally made some more progress on the 109. Got all the major painting finished, so now I'll let it cure for a couple of days before the Future topcoat & decals. Hope to post some pics next week.

hey Jules! Well after some careful consideration we decided to call him Rudy... it's easy to scream when he's messing with something he shouldn't have...

correction Rick... a LOT of room to roam!!! Wink [;)] I'm on about 2 acres and Frank can cover that in about 2 seconds flat... even when hopping over the 36" diameter pine trunk sections from the tree I just felled... we learned REAL fast he needs at least 3 or 4 good runs a day to keep him happy... but he is SO intelligent! He even figured out how to open the doors to the entertainment center and steal DVD's ... he hid them and would sleep with them for some reason... Confused [%-)]Confused [%-)]Confused [%-)] it's been a learning experience with him... so much energy and intelligence is dangerous sometimes!!! But the pup finally settled down and is actually learning the house broken thing right now... another smart dog..

between this one and Frank I am afraid to go to work Monday! haha....
hmmm maybe Martlet would be a good name since we are discussing him here... for some reason I still like Bassett Mk III but dont think the wife would go for it... haha

Tom, ours was a female named Cleo. Freinds have a Bassett that they named DADOG. Know some other folks who used to have a Bassett named Van Gogh.

good to know Rick. this one has a personality you just can't say no to easily.. very inquisitive and loving... he's already become "daddy's boy" after a few hours here.. follows me everywhere... if I go in a room he has to come looking for me.

We have two other adult dogs who are still not sure about him... they are gentle and don't mind him much.. they are just not sure where this leaves them in the family line up... one is an adult Catahoula hound and although he adores the puppy he is a bit assertive so far when it comes to his bed... the other is a border collie who is still a bit scared of him. (Frank, the border collie is a rescued dog from the SPCA so he still has a few issues and I think he is feeling left out with the new puppy)

Trouble is now to find a name for him... we've been calling him "Doggy" so much today it is starting to stick haha... (more like Dawgy, we are Texans ya know)

Good work Bob, that canopy can drive one to drink. Maybe not a bad thing actually Smile [:)].

Tom, great looking Pup. We have a Corgi these days, but had a nice little Bassett about 35 years ago. Nice dogs.

good job Bob! I know you were worried about the masking on that... from what I can see it went good for ya!

Well, got a lot done today, just not on the Martlet or the SBD... ends up I worked on the Bassett Mk. III acquired this afternoon... kind of a surprise when I got the call to come pick it up! so far the camo looks good.. a nice white underside, with black uppers and a brown spotting pattern... the nose is kinda odd though, a gloss black! This one is a beauty and I am sure it will grow on me... so far it's gone great with only a minor mishap on the kitchen floor.. Sad [:(]

here is the progress so far!

Canopy has been masked! Glad I went with the pre-cut rather than taping & liquid mask route-the nose canopy is a bear. Finished sanding, need to attach the glass work to the plane with rubber cement (easily removable later) and maybe get the thing primed this pm. Debated on using the earlier RM 65/70/71 (I think) however, my LHS doesn't carry anything close in a spray can. Short of buying an air brush, think I'll stick with the grey/black night camo scheme. Work schedule requires a road trip early next week, so I'll be lucky to get much else done before next weekend. Sorry for the quality of the pic. As an update, it was hard to paint the nose canopy-will the mask work or not-time will tell.

In my house it's just the opposite. My wife refuses to let me go into a Supermarket. I can't resist all of the goodies & blow our Grocery budget in no time.

yeah the old warhorse can move pretty fast for her size... kind of like the Rhinoceros that charged our van at the wildlife park a couple of years ago... learned a lesson then, if you can pace yourself she tires fast... then you move in like a hyena... don't let her get ya on the ground though... that's her territory, she'll rip you to shreds in no time... speaking of that I hope she didn't latch into Sean... haven't seen him much lately...

Well in scant moments I will either be masking the Martlet or finishing the SBD, haven't decided yet. I had to go grocery shopping first this morning because if the wife goes with me, we end up spending too much... she's like a little kid pulling things off the shelf!

The old Monogram Spit will definitely be more of a challenge than the Tamiya. Hope you do well with it.

Well I dry fitted the fuselage halves of the old Monogram Spitfire together today, scratched my head, thought about getting the Tamiya Spitfire out of the stash and then put the whole affair away.

However, seeing I love building older kits, the Monogram offering should be a neat little challenge to build!

Just need an Ultracast seat now!

cheers

Where I am? Getting the PE for the bf-109 & bf-110 in a few hours (it's 2am now), and then, er, finishing my Komet for the MKD GB. After that getting down to the bf-110, and maybe the bf-109 too. I've also go to the do something on my Churchill, as I proposed for my IPMS that the theme of the next meet is 'People and Places', so I must have a finished model for that (seeing how I proposed it!). Then there is my BoB Spit, my infamous Mig-15 for the GB, and 2 Macchi 1/144 scale jobs, that need a complex mottle. Busy? Er, yep! I will also try and not buy a kit at the shop, really!

well well well.... the cat's away, the mice come out to play I see! Wink [;)]

As far as the squadron green or white they dry in about the same time... the white is finer to me... so I use the green for big things and finish up in white.. or just white... haven't tried those others Rick... I need to ask next time I am down at the "good" hobby shop...

Tweety... thought I gave old Nurse Kremps the slip, but she caught me when I was sleeping and tied me to the bed with dental floss... that old broad packs a punch to her! Oh yeah I need to find the review I saw the other night of a 129 in zebra stripes.. I thought of you when I saw it! Very detailed, also would be hard to mask it so all those tiny stripes matched on curves...

Where's Jules make off to? Nurse Kremps give him a thrashing as well???? Wouldn't surprise me after what HE did!!! Taped Shut [XX] Probably wouldn't be appropriate to say it out loud here!

Well 0% progress on the SBD or the Martlet either one... but tomorrow morning marks the day I kick it in! I might just have to forego modeling in the week though as it is very busy there, plus I have two classes I am booked for in the coming weeks and those always make me VERY sleepy!

Off to harrass the rest of the forum! Be back later!

Only go by what I'm told at the LHS. I don't use Squadron putty at all these days, but used to use the Green. Now, I use CA or Porc-A-Filler.
