Damn it!! I think I am out of luck Sad [:(] KL-B went down July 9th, with BoB starting (according to at least some websites) . I guess there is no stretching the rules???

If not, then I will come up with another aircraft.

much obliged Rick! hmmm I might actually do the Promodeler Ju88 C-6 and retrofit it to a C-5... it looks like all the pieces are already there to do it. clear nose instead of solid with cannon, different canopy etc... I'll have to research the differences and see if it is possible... I think the C-6 did away with the paddle blades but if I remember correctly, the kit had those also!

problem is I don't like the "whale belly" look to that Fujimi kit.. I know thats realism but I dont like it durn it! lol...

Hi all ... thanks very much for the warm welcomes Smile [:)]

I am hot on the trail of a couple of sources of Alan Deeres aircraft he flew over Dunkirk ... unfortunately it was shot down July 10, 1940 - he was not flying it on that day. So what dates are we defining BoB as??? Does July 10 fit in???

Also - as a newbie - what do I have to do (if anything), to have the BoB'05 piccie attached to my posts in fora?

Many thanks ...

The Fujimi 1/48 Bf-110 is a pretty nice kit. Recessded panel lines & pretty good detail cosidering it's age. It's not as nice as the Revell/Promodeler kit, but with some AM or scratch build details it is highly acceptable.

Greeting all

Sorry for evesdropping, but I've enoyed the conversations. Unfortunatly, I finished my Spitfire Mk ll for the Monogram group build and am a little over committed to join in here. Maybe if Santa is generous with time and models....

As far as movies, check out a BBC Masterpiece Theater series that was shown on PBS here in the US in 1989-1990 (I think) called "Piece of Cake" Good stuff.

I'm very interested in the North Africa group build if it starts in spring '05.

Anyway, here's a few pics of my Spitfire.

Bob

hmmm I might take this on, let me think about it. a 110 in 1/72 would be about equivalent to a T-6 Texan in 1/48 I would think... not TOO small for my aged hands... already have kind of a full plate but might switch off one of the others for something not done...

Hmmm, interesting bunch of decals Nicholas.
Buy that sheet, and you could spend over a year just building all those kits to suit the decals.Big Smile [:D]

I have also had a hankering to do a Hurricane, so that may be in the wind. But my first hunt will be for after-market decals for an NZ pilot in an RAF squadron - being an expat Kiwi in Aus. Perhaps Alan Deere??? So put me down for a Spit at this stage (if accepted of course!!), and I will keep advised Smile [:)]

Paul

I've had a bit of a look but can't see any decals for RNZAF pilots who served in the BoB. I'm sure that there will be some out there, it’s just a matter of finding them.

Cheers
Darren

there are plenty...if you want to do Alan Deere's "Kiwi" (i have built this aircraft), here is a link to Hannants who sell FCM decals...they do an awesome BoB sheet if anyone is interestedCool [8D]

http://www.hannants.co.uk/search/?FULL=FCMB4801

the item is listed as sold out (this GB perhaps?Wink [;)]), but they will usually tell you when a re-stock is due.

kind regards,

Nicholas

G'day Cossack Sign - Welcome [#welcome] to the BoB Group Build, I've put you down for a Spitfire, but let me know if you want to change.
If you're interested for the BoB the valid marks for the Ju-88 are the A-1, A-5 & C-5. For the He-111 its the H, H-2, 3, 4 & P-2.
I've had a bit of a look but can't see any decals for RNZAF pilots who served in the BoB. I'm sure that there will be some out there, it’s just a matter of finding them.

Oh yeah, the Battle of Britain not a great flick [:0] I’m with Mike on this one, I love it and the special edition rocks.

Cheers

hmmm... first we (in the US) were worried about the communists taking over... then immigrants from the south... then the terrorists... it's the Aussies we should be worried about from the looks of this thread! lol!

Welcome Cossack! I'm in the US but an adopted Aussie for at least the Aussie 05 build! Right dad? Wink [;)]

hmm is anyone doing a bf-110? I seem to remember someone mentioning it awhile back but not sure if they commited to it... would like to fill in the gaps that are starting to appear...

I am still going to do the Martlet (was in-theater if not a combatant), possibly the Ju-87. but hate to leave a major player out like that...

BoB is not a good movie?

Sorry, my opinion differs considerably, it is a great movie, the CASA built Buchons and He111 + the Spitfires and Hurricanes make it even more so.

Aurora-7, excellent gift. Is it the Spec edition?

cheers

The movie isn't that good, but the vintage aircraft in the flick are priceless. I play the DVD whenever I get in the mood for building an early Spit or Hurricane.

Darson i broke with the norm on this one and used the recommended mix ratio for Tamiya acrylics except for the underside which is done in Gunze.....
I painted the brown on first with Gunze but i didn't like the colour so i redit it with the Tamiya mix........
Cheers Jules......

Jules - I find that dust becomes a real issue when using pastels to whether, if I'm not careful I end up with unwanted pastel dust everywhere. You can pick up those whit cotton gloves in any Coles or Safeway for couple of bucks.
Also, what brand of paint did you use on the Spit?

Tom - My information is pretty much the same as yours, the FAA Martlets didn't see actual combat until the battle of Norway. The FAA squadrons that flew combat missions during the BoB flew Sea Gladiators. One of them, 804 squadron from memory was equipped with Martlets late in the battle. As to whether you want to build it or not, your call.

Cheers

Ah dust, you can get away with it on a heavily weathered model, but on an Alclad model for instance, it spells doom.

Good thing is, in photo's you cant see the fingerprints or dust!

As for gloves, I thought about using the cotton ones, but went for latex surgical gloves, the Ansell ones for like $10 for 150.
Just have to remember to wash them before handling your model to remove the fine white powder thats on the outside.
A quick rinse under the tap sorts this out.

If it's a humid day, there is a good chance cotton fibres will stick to your model.

Yeah thats what i reckon Sean, Stick with what you know until you get it just right, work on perfecting the tecniques that work best for you but try different things, i experimented with the salt paint chipping method on a couple of models but i couldn't seem to get it right so i went back to my normal method.......
one thing i noticed is that my overhandling of the model during decaling and weathering is leaving fingerprints so i'm going to have to get some of those white cotton gloves to use, and i definatly have to get a booth, DustEvil [}:)]is becoming more than just an annoyance nowAngry [:(!]
