Now there's probably something out there that would qualify in all four groups. Did any Oz Spits, Hurricanes, etc that were in the BoB go to Africa? If so, it might be interesting to do the two paint jobs side by side.

Tweety, mate i'll probably only leave the side engine panels open cause i don't want to lose those classic spitfire lines...... I chose Caldwell's A/C because it has no sharks mouth and considering how hard those decals are to get on it would be a shame to stick them on and not see them, besides i still wanna do one in the same scheme as Darson's
Darson i just had a quick look on Google and there's a ton of pics of Meteors....
just go to www.google.com and do a search......
here's one i found.....
Petbat yeah mate i'll cruise over after work
Speaking of the more unusual kits i have my eye on this WW1 flying boat by Roden i can't remember the actual A/C name except that it starts with the letter F but it has large areas in blue and white and i think FSM did a review about 6 months ago.....

Carl i'm not sure mate, i know many Hurricanes found their way to Africa as hurribombers or tankbusters but i think the RAAF SQD's mainly flew the Tomahawk

Tweety
That is a problem for me. I have the 1:48 HC Sea Fury and 3 sets of markings to choose from. It is all too confusing and I have put it away until I can think straight after Christmas!!
cheers

It does seem a little daunting, which decals to choose.
I have managed to find some resin detail sets for the Fury, don't know if they are still available, but the ppics looked pretty nice.
Bit more searching, and if I can't find some A/M bits, I'll look at something else.
Something else I noticed, Spit a/m bits, at least for earlier models, are really hard to come by.
Is it just me, ie-not looking in the right places.

Most were produced by Airwaves or Aeroclub at one stage. I think there is an Aires set for the Tamiya Spit mk1, or was available.
I think I will build my Monogram Spit OOB with the exception of some PE belts. That way I can just get on with it!!
cheers

Ok, if we're the West island what does that make Tasmania?
The Sea Fury in the AWM is quite a pretty beast. If you want the full res pics from my web page just let me know. http://bandha.customer.netspace.net.au/
I got the Hiplanes BAE hawk 127 kit today. Interesting kit. The jet itself is nicely panelled but tons of flash. A couple of excellent resin seats, separate plastic bits with finer detail - these are really well done although still with tons of flash. White metal wheels & pointy things. & two big lead cockpit tubs, plus some very plain bits of PE. The decals look terrific. They've even got decals for the canopy det-chord, although it's either white or transparent (invisible on the sheet) so I don't know how that's going to work? Two vac-formed canopies.
The instructions are not like the usual Jap fare. "Make from plastic rod" and "make blast shield from clear styrene using template" type instructions here & there.
For those still on the hunt Hiplanes do have a range of Oz planes, all with multiple RAAF/RAN/et al decal sets. Mostly 1/72 (the Hawk is 1/48). There are a couple of RAAF Beaufighters, a couple of Mirages, a Winjeel, a Boston, a Jindivik and even the old Wackett Trainer. An interesting looking Ryan STM/PT-20 Trainer for those who like something different. And an Oz Army Pilatus. Go nuts!

I got the internals from the High planes Hawk 127, it is the most accurate RAAF Hawk on the market but takes a LOT of work to get a finished result. After going through an accurising and scratchbuilding exercise with the 1:48 Premiere Hawk T.1A (just before the Arifx kit came out), I do not want another 6 month build.
A quick call to High Planes got me the resin/white metal/PE/vacc and decals from their kit for $28 and the purchase of the Airfix kit at $20 gives me a cheaper and easier build (I hope)
I am eying off the Wackett though!
cheers
