Jules, your a champion!

Well, seems my search for Aussie GB subject has become a tad cheaper, which will make the missus smile no end!
Got the 47 off ebay for next to nothing, and should turn out ok.

Now gotta find some pics.

Got one!
It's not the D model like I have, but with some epoxy and scratch building, it won't be too difficult to change, fuel tanks are the dead giveaway between the kit and this item.

One happy chap today!!!Big Smile [:D]

Apart from Hasegawa, who makes the best 1:72 Spitfire MkVIII?

Hasegawa's kit is around AU$28 which I consider a bit pricey for a 1:72 kit. But if need be I will outlay the hard cash.

I want to built the RAAF Spitfire MkVIII "Grey Nurse" for the ANZAC GB

cheers

Mike as far as I know Hasegawa are the only manufacturer to make a Spitfire Mk.VIII in 1/72. I've built the 1/48 version of this kit and it goes together without any problems at all.
Oh, bye the way I consider anything from Tamigawa a bit pricey, but it doesn't stop me from shelling out for their kits Big Smile [:D]

Just found out that the Hase one has the same problems as their auarter scale Spit VIII.

Anyone know what the Ventura one is like?

I am the same, though just with their cheaper but still good 1:72 kits and dang it, just missed out on a Tamiya 1:72 Spit mk1 on ebay for AU$6.50!!....rats....

cheers

Mike if the prob you are referring to with the 1/48 scale kit is the length of the fuselage, then I wouldn't worry if I were you. IMHO the finished model looks exactly like a Spitfire Mk.VIII should look despite the fact that it is a little short (I think it's about 1mm in the 1/48 scale kit).
Other than this, I found no other problems during construction of mine, other than the ones that I created. Sorry I can't help on the Ventura kit, I didn't even know they made one.
I know how you feel with being beaten on eBay. I just lost out on two Accurate Miniatures P-51's (one a B and the other a C) that were going for $30 for the two of them. Double rats...

Cheers

well I two options. Get the Hasegawa Spit for AU$28, using the Altmark decals for Grey Nurse or use the Italeri MkIX and flatten off the tailwheel area, scratchbuild some doors and replace the tail wheel.

I am liking the Hase option more and more currently!

Darren, bad luck on the two AM kits, sometimes eBay sucks!

cheers

hmm noticed a set of decals for 4 different Aussie PBY's... problem is the kit isn't realeased yet that fits them... we'll see but I would definitely be interested in a model with a 26" wing span.. could build it whells up and put it on my ceiling!

Still searching for a build...

Actually, believe it or not I am not tired of building the SBD's... found a set of NZ decals for the SBD I might build another for that!!!

I've just almost finished a P-51D Italieri kit & I don't intend buying that brand again. Amongst other things, the panel lines are just soooo wrong, they didn't even bother trying the ones around the wing root.

Yeah, some of the Italeri stuff is pretty average.
I'm building a Kamov KA-52 for the Helo GB, and from the looks of the bits in the box, alignment is gonna be a big issue.
The palstic also feels soooooooooooo soft, scared to put glue on it in case it acts like acid and turns the kit into gloop!

But my Bell 47 is a definate go for this GB.
Had a look at the kit again today.

Gonna need to find some close up pics of c/p's so I can add the parts as required.

Big kit, I have that one in my stash.

My Great Uncle Mike Seymour flew Cats during WW2. He was the pilot of the Catalina that Bluey Truscott buzzed just before he flew his P-40 into the sea.

I want to do the Cat as a tribute to Uncle mike, who I am named after!

cheers

yeah that's the one the decals were made for cossack, it's not yet released yet according to Testors site... it's a re-release with some changes to the mold etc... saw a review of it on greatmodels.com and it actually is a good looking kit! I think I saw an earlier release of the Probuilder kit at my LHS so just waiting till daylight so I can go check it out...

Mike my great Uncle flew Lanc's for Bomber Command and i have the Tamiya 1/48 Lanc kit which i was planning to do one year.......
and i would have to reccomend the 48 Has Spit8 it's a good kit and you can get replacement fues halves that are made locally but i can't remember who makes them....
Oh yeah Aero Image Works make a great set of Aussie Decals called Shark Attack for a multitude of Aussie Spit8's they go for around $25 AU

Loon Models make replacement fueslage halves for the Has Spit MkVIII. Red Roo imports them and they sell for about $27 + postage. I have used them on my Has Mk8 and they are ok. The panel lines are a bit huge around the tail but other than that they look ok. They also make a Mk9 fueslage with tail planes etc..

well, seems to be plenty for the MkVIII in 1:48, I have the Arii kit in 1:48 so that should be an OK build, though a little on the sparse side detailwise.

I just won some Altmark decals on eBay for the Spit VIII and am zeroing in on the best candidate for the job!

cheers

Has anyone seen PE sets for the Hase Spit 8?

I've looked on and off for the last 2 months, and haven't had any real joy.

How good are the Sharks decals Jules?
Much hassle getting them to bed down?

The decals from Aero Image Works are excellent Sean, perhaps a little thick but they respond to setting solution very nicely, the sharks mouth themselves are a real pain in the A--E i had to chop most of the black out of the mouth to get them to conform to the surface but with a little bit of black paint they come out ok........

Thanks for that info guys.
I thought there would be alot more PE for the Hase kit than the ICM kit

Might get the PE and see if it is gonna be to big a pain to fit to the Hase, and if so, who of you has the ICM SPit 8???

Mike from the references that I dug up during the last Aussie build, the scheme used by these aircraft was not the standard A or B pattern. I will check properly when I get home tonight to be sure.
I am fairly sure that I still have the aircraft schematic, so if you send me your email address I will mail the info to you.

Cheers

Yeah Darson the scheme on my Aussie Spit didn't seem to match the A or B pattern so i just copied the masks from my reference books.........
Was there a C patern Camo scheme, something in the back of my mind tells me yes....
