Daniel thanks for the link that's cool, I'll definitely be saving that one. Can you tell me though, what color are the undercarriage legs? I know they are green, but do you thing they would be Foliage Green like the rest of the aircraft?

This is just my opinion but I reckon that the two best aircraft derivatives ever produced by Australia would have to be the DAP Beaufighter Mk.21 and the CAC Sabre, with both being the best versions of each aircraft type ever produced. Just my opinion though Big Smile [:D]

Everybody
I have gotta say that scrolling down these pages looks fantastic with all the Aussie flags waving and RAAF roundels etc. Looks cool guys Thumbs Up [tup]

Cheers

The under carriage legs are foliage green Darren. The wheels are the same colour too. I have alot of information on the Mk.21's from when I did my build, probably the most research I did for a kit ever. So if you have any questions, I'll see if I can help you. Gotta agree on those choices of best aircraft. And the beaufighter just looked cool in the foliage green, didn't it?

You've just reminded me. I forgot to put my Aussie flag back in my sig after the big re shuffle a couple of weeks ago. I'll put it back soon.

Sigh [sigh], shame about the Sabre Jules, that one is nearly a snap together buildTongue [:P]

Tom, I'm sure there were Sabres in Midway, just flew so fast no one could see em!!Wink [;)]

Well, raided my PE box for some detail on the Bell con trol panels.
It's not going to be entirely accurate, the control panel pics I have are a little fuzzy, but it's a whole lot better than the tripe that came in the kit!!
Maybe another week on the pit, and it should be finished, will have some before and after pics then too.

OK back again, enough of the flying thingies time for some real muscle!

I've done nothing for about 4 weeks and had no enthusiasm for kit building at all but a wettish Easter, no demands from SheWhoMustBeObeyed, few chores and the old modelling room gained its appeal back. The Commodore is basically ready for its first undercoat. The resin shell was good with little flash and no pin holes. Below are 2 shots of the first dry fit. The vacform windows are not good. I've had to cut out each individually (8 of them) to get any semblance of an acceptable fit. The axles were much bigger than the predrilled holes in the psun aluminimum rims. The axle material supplied is hollow tube and will fine for exhaust pipes but the spares box came to rescue for suitable axles. The headlights are supplied as white metal inserts. I'll toss those and use BareMetal foil overcoated with Krystal Kleer

I now need to find some photos to make a roll cage which isn't included with the kit. If I recall the Australian Muscle Cars magazine did a feature on these cars not so long ago so I'll try and locate a copy. I also need a photo of the rear of the car as there is no decal location guide supplied with the kit - ah the joys of oldish 43rd kits!

Ok now you can return to the heavensBig Smile [:D]

I'd like to join the GB- probably a 1/72 scale PV-1, 13 SQN RAAF, A59-75 based at Gove 1944. I can even weather it with original 'Gove dust' (its really, really red!)

Jules Gove is at the top of the NT, east of Nhulunbuy.
It was basically formed as a mining town, and while not the coolest place to be, it's to bad, and the fishing is great!
At least from a visitors point of view the fishings great, mind you I live in the Centre of Oz, so any fishing is great to meDunce [D)]

Well, took a happy snap of the bits I've made up so far for my Bell.
Theres alot of 20 thou strip styrene used here, as that is all I had on hand, so aside from the grey centre console, and the panel on the left, the rest is scratch built.

I have drilled small holes in the back of all these parts to allow for the wiring harness I'm about to make, and then I glue it all together, and move onto the engine.

Actually it's not such a bad kit.
There are a couple of inaccuracies, but these were easily overcome.
Brand wise it's an Academy kit, and for the dollars it's pretty good, pretty stark on detail, but thats why it makes such a great candidate for my first scratchbuilding effort.

Consider us punished TomBlack Eye [B)]

And I haven't lost my mind mate, just got curious as to why some people go that one step further in our hobby.

As long as you have good referances, it's easy.
I admit it looked a little daunting, but I got some pics off the net which helped a little, then this total champion called Pingy (Thumbs Up [tup]) sent me some more pics, which has made the whole exercise a HEAP easier.
Should look fantastic when done, even if I say so myself.

P.S. Lieing to oneself is not recommended.

It's all good TomWink [;)]
But after this, I don't think I'll try it again for a LONG time.
Shoulda learnt my lesson after the Sabre, but glutton for punishement I guessSad [:(]

It's not that it's not enjoyable, but it really sucks up alot of time, which none of us has a great deal of these days
