Laugh [(-D]Laugh [(-D]Laugh [(-D]Laugh [(-D]Laugh [(-D] ok... why do I have this sudden feeling I have slipped into a re-run of a Benny Hill show? that one cracked me up Sean...

Absolutely no work on the Typhoon yet... actually I approached this one a bit unprepared and as such I am ready to paint but canopy was not even futured or masked yet... so will have to wait for paint for that... maybe tomorrow as I did get the canopy futured a few minutes ago... ::sigh:: the P-47 interior I guess it is for me today....

I finished painting the interior of the Buffalo the over the weekend when I stupidly decided to a little more research on the external colors and the wheel wells. Now I know I should've left well enough alone and gone on in ignorant bliss, but I didn't. Long story short, I am now convinced the cockpit interior was painted RAF interior green, not the zinc chromate primer that I have used Disapprove [V].
Censored [censored] back to the spray booth tonight then.

Darren something that surfaced when I was investigating my Martlet was that they were sprayed the approximate RAF equivalent by the factory in the US where they were made.. most of them were painted with Dupont paints made in the US... the Martlets almost as a rule had a Zinc Chromate interior, something I didn't learn until AFTER I had closed the fuselage... so this may be a matter of choice versus reference.. with the Martlets there were mostly done with zinc chromate, but there were some reference to RAF interior green in the mix... so you might be safe either way... I guess it boils down to what you feel comfortable with...

good luck!!!

Well, did some more scratching last night, replacing the tail rotor drive shaft with a length of metal.
Had to cut the plastic 'bearing ass'y' off the plastic, and drill the exact centre out of them so the driveshaft would slide in and sit correctly.
Not a big job, but VERY time consuming (read-BORING!Zzz [zzz])

But, it really does make a differance in looks, as far as realism goes.

The first bearing won't be glued down till the engine is in place, needs to remain loose for alignment purposes, but the new shaft actually turns, and I was toying with the idea of making the tail rotor turn in unison with the main rotor.
But thats going a tad to far me tinks!

Also managed to attach the rear of the pit, the styerene section I made, this pic shows just how much you can see, and if I hadn't placed it there, it just wouldn't look right.

The gap between the pit wall and the engine is where I have to do some 'creative' wiring and plumbing, and try to make some linkages that 'appear' the part.
I have NO IDEA how I'm going to do this, but will find out shortly.

Okay, which one of you has the huge pic on photobucket? Verrry slow.

Speaking of scratchbuilding woes, I've killed the scoops on my Mirage with sandpaper & have to replace them. Does anyone have any tips on a good way to do this? I've made a couple out of styrene - too frail. Then I made a couple by cutting some brass tube at a fine angle & spending forever filing. They turn out quite okay but impossible to get four of them to look identical (they're pretty small).

hmm that's a toughy Carl... only two remote possibilities come to mind... a piece of sprue sanded to the approx shape then the end made concave... or try to fashion it out of putty on the body itself... and attempt to make the opening after well dry....

good luck on that!!

Ok, I'll launder them, no probs.
Just gotta find a cement truck, and ALOT of detergent.
She aint a small lass as we all knowWink [;)]

Carl, as for your scoops, try getting a needle, roughly the same diameter as the inside of the scoop, and drape some tissue paper over it, then apply some CA.
This will give you what you want, then all you have to do is trim the sides till they are correct.
If it's too frail, use 2 pieces of tissue paper, or one of those super soft dunny roll sheets.
You could try some of the cheaper dunny rolls, y'know the ones that feel like a hessian sac, but these may require a bit of putty to fill all the small holes etc after the CA has cured.

Tweets Did you get those photos yet? I sent them off last thursday before I left for Melbourns, so they should be there soon (if theyw aren't already). Your Bell is looking great, the pics should help you fill in the area behind the cockpit, lots of piping needed. Should be fun.

Sean I proposed a GB in the BoB topic you might be interested in... the "Kremps" group build...

Rules:

May build: Blimps, dirigibles, AA ballons, figures of dogs, buffalos, cows etc.., Hindenberg models accepted, "Elefant" Nazi Tanks, Werewolves, dio's of long grass fields... NASA's "Pregnant Guppy" Aircraft, figures of Blue whales, gray whales, sperm whales... (no hump backed whales.. those are reserved for the "Kremps' Mother" GB in 2007... Florida Manatees etc... I guess Hippo's would be acceptable but would be more appropriate for the "Kremps sister, Charlotte" GB in 2008....

Pingy, nah, nothing yet mate, but as soon as letters cross the NT border, it's kinda like the Bermuda Triangle.
We had a write up in the local rag where a lady posted a postcard from Melbourne to Alice Springs.
She just got the postcard returned to her via Return to Sender.
The post mark on it was 20 YEARS OLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!![:0][:0][:0]

This place is so backwards our water flows from the drain TOO the tap!!

Thanks for the scoop ideas guys. The needle option sounds interesting, I'll fiddle about w. that this weekend. I did try putty on the model but way too much cleaning up to produce a repeatable result. It's also really hard to drill out a clean semi-circle & keep the scoop thin enough to look like sheet metal - that's how I stuffed up the originals. Bending some PE leftovers would probably be ideal but I'm not stupid enough to even try making 4 identical one's that way. Hmmm! Maybe bending PE sprue around a needle....???

I think we should demand that they all have some Kremps nose-art on their GB output to justify putting the rest of us through it.

Sean, I gave this a try but I must be missing something(s). If I pulled out the needle out too early I was left with a mess in either hand. If I left the needle in, I got, err, tissue paper glued to a needle. Maybe the tissue I'm using is too absorbent? Also, what do you put underneath it to keep it free from whatever you rest it on, another piece of tissue?

Maybe a small piece of Glad Wrap or similar Carl.
I've been trying to think of some thing CA WON'T bond too, and thats all I can come up with.Sad [:(]

The needle idea sounded fine to me, I use a needle to apply small drops of CA to my models when needed, and pry off the dry CA afterwards cause the needle is non porous(duh!)

I do similar... I use the old needle from my Anthem for a lot of CA jobs... it runs down the the tip and acts a lot like a backwards capillary glue pen... for smaller jobs I use a needle...

OH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Shock [:O]

Brain wave!!
Foil, maybe some Bare Metal Foil!

You could fashion a piece of foil to suit the shape you need, then lay it flat on top of a piece of previously CA'ed tissue, trim the tissue to shape and bend and glue!!

If you do this on a piece of glass or something, then you can easily slide a blade under it to release the tissue from the glass, and being tissue, bending won't be a problem!!

The theory sounds good.
