Thanks everyone! Lofty, I appreciate the great comments. I like this color pattern too, although I wasn't sure I would with it having grey in it, but it does look good.

Yeah Darwin, they do; and I have a lot of Israeli planes to go after him too! Thanks for the compliment.

Sean, looking forward to seeing yours complete. I need to get another MiG 29 and make it German with your color scheme. Mine now sports a ground attack style green/OD/brown pattern. Hey, I was following the instruction sheet on the kit!

Keep going on those builds people! Cool [8D]

I haven't gotten much done lately- busy weekend with the competition and stuff. And I have to do a research paper for school... no time for the necessary airbrushing. I NEED to finish by may because it's the NY and north east regionals. So I need to kick the construction speed up a notch.

There has been some secret building going on at my private "Skunk Works" recently. Two more Migs have emerged from the "Black World" to the "white". The first is a Mig-23 Flogger owned by Pres. Khadafi of Libya, vintage 1976. These markings were used at that time before the switch to plain green rectangle on the fin and a green circle on the intake side. This is the Hasegawa 1/72 kit and it is armed with AA-8 Aphyd Air to Air Missiles under the fuselage flanking either side of the Gsh-23 twin barreled 23mm cannon. The big red and white missiles under the wing glove are AA-7 Apex, IR missiles.

My second Skunk Works project is a Mig-27 Flogger D that belonged to President Hassad of Syria during 1986. It is the Hasegawa 1/72 kit painted with Model Masters enamel paints. It is armed with a 23mm six barrel gatling gun under the fuselage, two AA-2 Atoll Air to Air missiles under the air intakes, 2 37 round, 57 mm rocket pods under the wing gloves and two 250 Kg cluster bombs on racks under the aft fuselage.

Since a few people here have finished like three kits I really need to finish repairing my USPS-damaged Mig. [:0] Oh well, might as well put in the Eduard Zoom set I have now since it's open!Big Smile [:D] Really outstanding work, everyone!Bow [bow]Bow [bow] At least I didn't put this kit in w/ my packout stuff in Atsugi like I did some of the kits for my other GB's.Smile [:)] Plus, all these Migs in foreign markings gives me an idea for a GB for later in the year (like Thanksgiving or so)!Tongue [:P] - Calvin

I like the unusual paint scheme. It's still far from finished obviously. But (this is going to sound sissy -like) I have poured my heart into this thing. I estimate I have close to 30 hours in it already. It's got an Aires resin cockpit, and the Eduard exterior detail set. Comments welcome. Criticism as well as long as you justify it. (Don't just be like "This model sucks" tell me WHY it sucks.) Well enjoy the pics!

LOLLaugh [(-D] Actually, Tanky, I was thinking something along the lines of "Airforces of the Middle East"Tongue [:P] I recently got Osprey's "Iranian F-4 Units in Combat" & I've never built a kit with Israeli markings.[:0] Very nice build Tanky, BTW!! -Calvin

That could be interesting. I've already built about 29 aircraft in Middle Eastern markings, 45 if you count all my Israeli aircraft. This build should happen soon then since I'm running out of possible subjects. I now have two more possibilities thanks to Darwin.

OK. I got the front landing gear strut done. It took a while because of the myriad of PE parts that had to go on it. But the result was a super-detailed strut.

OK, I made some major progress today. Airbrushed the anti-dazzle strip, and got down all of the dark grey areas. All of the landing gear assemblies are finished. Just a little touch up here and there, and it's pretty much ready for glosscoating.

the progress of my mig-29
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, April 18, 2005 9:28 AM
i guess i should report the progress i have made so far on my cuban mig-29. the 'pit is painted. the airframe is mostly done. i painted the odds and ends like the landing gears and missiles. but right now i'm in idle mode 'cuz i'm still waiting for the decals to arrive. until they do, i can't do anything, not even painting the airframe as i dont even know what colors to use.

depending on how frustrated i get with the waiting, i might even start building my 1/48 top gun f-18 "pretending" to be a mig29 hahaha.

Lofty, here is a link to a site that shows Cuban MiG 29'sm in four different camouflage patterns:

http://wp.scn.ru/en/ww4__f/39/50

Just click on the images to see them full sized. You could probably copy them to your Hard Drdaive, and print so you mcan at least start on one of the schemes.

Good luck! can't wait to see your MiG done.

Lofty, Cuban migs usually wore the standard Soviet scheme. I think you got the same decal sheet I did, and if you did, it is in fact the standard scheme. Do yours come from Hi decals from Poland?

OK, I looked, it looks like the standard Soviet scheme to me. The Cubans usually didn't maintain their MiG's let alone repaint them.
