no decals in mail box last night *sigh*. but i DID started painting. I did the pre-shading on the panel lines, and sprayed the bottom of the airframe with light ghost grey. will continue painting the rest of the week.

Latest news regarding my two MiG's:

Thanks to the replacement services of Airfix, I have a brand new canopy for my MiG-23. And thanks to Janne Holmqvist, who sent me some Cuban decals and flags, I now have a chance to complete this MiG-23 before the GB has ended.
The aircraft is due for painting and then attaching the undercarriage. And finally of course decalling.

My MiG-15 is also waiting for the final painting. And undercarriage. And Iraqi decals.

But, but, but ... first of all I have to finish my British Chinook!!!

i got tired of waiting for the decals, so i went ahead and starting painting. here are a couple of pics. 1/48 academy mig-29, verlinden k-36 seat. yeah i know the 2 shades of grays are supposed to be very close, but i decided to give them a sharper contrast so the finished plane won't look so boring. when i'm done with post-shading and weathering, the 2 shades will blend in each other more.

Loftry, nice work on the painting. I like the color scheme, and your pattern is quite sharp. Keep up the great work.

installed the vert slabs, and odds and ends, and got more painting done. but there is STILL no cuban AF decals. i'm very tempted to just slap on some red stars and call it a build. has anyone living in canada ordered decal sheets from hannant before? how long did it take to ship?

Thanks, but it's 1/72. Just to get this bird ready for the GB without further delays, I took a seat from a Draken kit I'm working on for my wife right now, and that's going to be a "real" dragon ...
So even if it's not the correct seat, it's still a seat.

Hannants is in England mate. They'll take a long long while to get to yer place from there.

Just to let everyone know, I'm still here and alive. I started on my MiG 15 this week and actually made some progress on it. I'll have some pics up next week.

It's been a while, but here goes with an update:
The Mig-15 UTI in Vietnam colours has been abandoned. Simply put, the amount of filler needed is crazy, and I'd still need to rescribe all the panel lines, and add in airbrakes. Much better to build a decent kit, than to try and rescue this awful one. It's not yet in the parts bin, but probably will be soon...

I decided therefore to build this Airfix 1/72 Mig-23 kit I bought second hand from Hannants. Lovely kit, and being from 1980, very crisp moulding too. It even comes with an instrument panel with raised dials etc. Lovely! Decals are awful, but I could do something with them. Includes a Libyan version. Part built, I discovered that it's missing the seat...

Am I destined to never complete a model for this GB?!

osher, if I remember correctly, the MiG 23 used the venerable K36 ejector seat(??), it's the same one that is in the MiG 21.

Just keep chuggin away at it. I was similarly overwhelmed with the amount of vrute force needed to insert my resin cokpit and then even more brute force to get everything to fit properly afterwards. But I trumphed in the end. I'll post pics when I'm finished now. Yup, I'm that close...

no Roadkill the Mig-21 doesn't use the K-36 I have no clue as to what seat it uses but the Mig-23 and the Mig-27 use the KM-1 ejection seat. and I stated earlier that Squadron sells the KM-1 made by True Details in both 1/48 and 1/72 scale.

The early Mig-21s, (21F/Fishbed B; 21F-12&F-13/Fishbed C; 21PF/Fishbed D) all used the SK ejection seat. This seat was limited to a minimum altitude of 110 meters or 361 feet for proper operation and a maximum speed of 690 mph,(subsonic). The Mig-21PFM/Fishbed F, the Mig-21S/SM Fishbed J, the Mig-21 MF/Fishbed J, the Mig-21bis Lazur/Fishbed L and the Mig-21bis SAU/Fishbed N all used the more modern KM-1 or KM-1M seat. which was zero/zero and super sonic rated.
The Mig-21U/Mongol A trainer used the SK seat, while the Mig-21 US and UM Mongol B used the KM-1.

Hmmm, why does everybody build 12x faster than me?!!!!!! But I SHOULD be done modeling gods willing by Monday. I have to future, decal future, flat coat and then add approximately 15 plastic and 15 PE pieces in final assembly.

Very, very nice job on the Cuban Mig. I wasn't aware that Castro had the 29.

That Cuban Mig is really good! Well done!

I found in my parts bin an ejector seat. No idea of the aircraft, but with some re-working, and licence, it will be a reasonable replacement. No detailing or PE on this Mig-23, just a quick build, and then painting in Libyan colours. As the for the Mig-15, I'm going to knock it together, not bother too much sanding/filling, and then send it to the Fatal Air Force, where all my aborted models go (a friend's 4 year old son, who loves them!); if not then it joins the experiment box, where other aborted models are kept (or large wings, sections, etc) for use in new techniques, trying out new paints, etc.

Actually, what do others do with their aborted models?

OK, decaling is finished on my MiG! I also finished an oil wash for the panel lines. It's ready for a flat coat as son as I have the time.
