Update: Starting work on the cockpit. Aside from loads of flash, there is the additional fun element of 'gates' that are so thick it's almost a model in itself, and bits (the control sticks) which have no gates at all, but simply emerge from a sprue. In short, this is going to be a model where a sharp blade is essential! However, on the plus side, the dials are all moulded in, as are the side instruments (in the 'pit tub). The seats look weird (and naturally, no belts), but they may be right. They look like the seats you would see in a modern day rally car though. The only real fly in the ointment is the 'glass' seperating pilot and pupil, which has a scratch down it. OK, so, probably correct (this was a heavily used aircraft by the Vietnamese), but I might try polishing it out.

I have no idea, so I think we just go by your answer ...

Thanks Mick! As normal, a complex answer to a simple question! I think, as so often in modelling, it will be a case of taking an informed guess, and hoping I was right. As the MiG I am modelling is from the Vietnam war, it would be an earlier one. Any ideas what sort of shade of grey would be right for a UTI? I've seen some pictures, but, as normal, they are all different!

I've just read a discussion on HS about MiG-15 cockpits and the result seems to be like this, if I got all the answers right:

The blue/green color did not come into use until at least the mid to late 1960s. The first MiG-21s had grey cockpits (at least up thru the PF). They then switched to this bright blue, so the "Russian interior blue/green" should be right for aircrafts after late 1960s.

The unaltered MiG-15 in the USAFM (has its original paint in the cockpit and gear wells, etc) is a medium blue-ish grey color.

Polish-built MiGs gun bays: They were a darker than medium bluieish gray.

Sunday is Mad Komet Day, so that's out; and right now I'm slipping behind with my BoB GB. I'm certainly getting a workload on. Anyway, this Kopro kit has so much flash. It's almost a vacform! Just as a matter of interest, did the MiG-15 use that blue/green colour for the cockpit usually?

OK, a slight change. I'm going from a 21st Century multi-coloured 1/32 Revell Mig-29 in German colours, to a 1960's 1/72 Kopro bare metal finish Vietnamese Mig-15 UTI (trainer). Just a slight change... Anyway, model is opened, and ready for working on!

In Oct 1997 the United States bought 21 MiG-29 fighter jets from Moldova, " to keep them out of the hands of potential enemies". They were brought to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio for studies.

I think I stumbled across some pictures on the net some week ago, but I'm not able to find them now ...

Hi,
this seems very interesting! I actually have a couple of MiGs in my closet. I wasn't going to start working on them just now (I have to many other kits ongoing) but why not. I am a very slow builder (nothing completed for the last two years) but put me in for a MiG-15 from the Iraqi AF, to start with anyway. Then I have a dead-line to watch out for!

I'm ready. Got the kit sitting on the desk, got my paint and tools ready. Still looking for the MiG-21. For any one interested, try www.lindenhillimports.com they have their own line of decals and they also carry AM parts. Did I mention they only deal with Russian AC?

It's definate now that I'll be doing the Egyptian MiG 15. I'll look around and see what I can dig out of storage, I may still have a Revell 1/32 MiG-21 that I'll do in Croatian markings (no promises on this one though)

Try this one...

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=810978

It asks you to delete ActiveX objects used by IE via the Tools/Options/Temporary Internet Files-Settings button, then the "View Objects Button". Be forwarned that clearning out just the "unknown" or "damaged" objects as stated in the article did not work for me. However, when I started deleting 'installed" (presumably good) objects, it solved the problem for me. Specifically, MSN money charting object was the one that did it for me. Just to prove it to myself, after I reinstalled that ActiveX object again from the MSN website, the same problem returned. Deleting it, magically I can save Jpegs again.

Sorry guys, I have to pull out of this GB.
The kit I had is now in the hands of my younger brother (it's a 'keeping the peace thing')
I'll check the budget and see if I can get another, but it doesn't look good.

SorrySad [:(]

Has anyone seen a review of the Hasegawa 1/72 Mig-29 (kit #E11)? I want to put one in Aztec's Peruvian markings later & don't want to waste the sheet on an inaccurate kit. I know Academy makes one and hear it's pretty good. Any thoughts? - Calvin

I've got the kit(s), but need to decide on the decals. I'm being pulled towards the Mig-21 in Romanian colours (I can't stand the German colours that come with the Revell kit, so ugly), or I might do the Mig-29 in Luftwaffe colours using the kit decals. Ah, choices, choices! (or, even, both kits...)
