Waikong, you seem closer to being finished so I shall bow to you and allow you to provide everyone with the inspiraion to complete their projects. Bow [bow]

I can't wait to see your work waikong, this should be awesome! I have my two MiGs waiting until I get some other projects to the clearcoat stage, then I'm going to shoot them all together. Gonna have to refill my Future! I'll post pics of my MiGs when I get the decals on them.

Besides, I haven't seen anything from these guys:

Bones-coa
roadkill_275
lodni_k:
fighterguru
beav
Swedish Mick
Mikeym_us
thyamis
yardbird78
djmodels1999

Just to name a few. I know most people in that list above do outstanding work and have been anxiously awaiting some of their progress pics so I could get ideas; as well as learn from them. Being in a Group Build with such auspicious builders as they are is a humbling experience, and I didn't want to finish too soon so I could feel as though I were building alongside them. I'm in no hurry to claim my badge, I want to feel I've earned it in the company of those great builders above as well as the great builders who've been posting with me! Approve [^]

Keep up the great work guys! See you around the tarmac! Wink [;)]

Duke, somebody have to be first. So if you are ready, finish it and give use some inspiration. I've got mine 99% done, just need to fit in the attennas, pitot tube, and a last minute scratch build to make the canopy stay open.

Tank, I feel for you, of all the problems one of the ones I hate the most is the 'step' fit issue. Its just a pain to take care of.

I feel for you Tanky! Still, I know you can do it. Your models are always a joy to look at because of this attention to detail you have. Keep plugging away.

As for me, I've got my MiG 23 at the point where it is ready to be clearcoated for decals. My MiG 21 just needs touch-ups on the camo pattern before it's ready for a clearcoat, but that will happen today. Then I will pause for a bit to get other projects done and allow others to catch up. After all, I'm in two other Group Builds; one of which I haven't started yet. I may start it, since they moved the start date up. That doesn't include the five other independent projects I'm building too, so I'll still be active.

So, keep plugging along guys! You all are doing awesome!

The academy MiG fuselage come in 4 pieces. I have glued the top 2 and the bottom 2 but gluing those haves together is going to be fidgety fidgety fidgety fidgety... well you get the point. also, on the top fuselage halves, the quarters form a nasty step that will have to be eliminated via tedious filling and sanding and loss of panel line detail that will then have to be rescribed making the process extremely annoying. Through in the resin cokpit and this is going to be HELL for the next couple of days of work.

Don't feel bad gentlemen! I also had put my two MiGs aside as well, so that I wouldn't get too far ahead of everyone. After all, there are still a few people we haven't even heard from, much less gotten progress pics from. My MiG 23 is ready to be clearcoated for decals, and I'm ready to put the squiggly pattern on my MiG 21. I won't be using the airbrush; I can't find my fine tip. I'm building four models for the Under New Ownership Group Build, and still have two other aircraft, a tank, and two ships to finish building, so it's easy for me to keep to a pace that you guys set.

Osher, take your time and do whatever you need to do to make it look good. You've got the talent, and I know you can do it.

Tanky, I look forward to seeing what you have done!

I haven't worked on my mig in a while also. This is because i got a bit sidetracked with my do-17 for the BOB GB. But I'll get some more done today I hope...

Everyone seems to be rushing forward, and I'm slipping well behind! The builds I've seen look stunning, and a real incentive for me to do a good job.

I've not worked on my MiG for at least a week now, trying to finish my red Komet (which has been put to one side), and my Churchill, which is finished! (see the thread 'first one' in Armor). So, recommenced work on the MiG. I have a nickname for this build, let's just say, it's the same title as a 1979 film with Joan Collins... At present I have a few bits to add to the cockpit, and then comes trying to fit in position. This is easier said than done, with no guides. The cockpit tub might thus be too high or low, but I hope it looks reasonable at the end. Pictures soon!

LOL. Yeah. I guess you're right. I'll see what I can do about that. The cockpit has changed a good deal since I last posted.

Okay I'm back with progress pics of my latest work on these two MiGs for this Build. There are only a couple pics here, as all I did was touch up some details, and apply the camouflage pattern on one of them.

This is my MiG 21. I have the base color on it now; I am toying with the idea of using my airbrush to paint on the dark green 'squigglies'. That will all depend on whether I find my fine tip or not.

The underside of the wings is silver. I got them painted as well, but I forgot to get a pic of them. Also, the blue on the canopy that obscures the pilot is a liquid mask.

While that was drying, I also detailed my MiG 23 for my German Air Force. Here it is sporting it's new camouflage pattern:

I do remember a picture I used to have of this plane looking like this in German markings. I'm almost ready to decal this guy!

Okay, I hope everyone else is making good progress as well. I'm looking forward to seeing more pics from you all.

Hey Tanky! You better put me down for one more MiG!
Since I've entered the Latin-American GB as well, it will be a 1/72 Airfix #03036 MiG-23 Flogger in Cuban colours. I found the blue/olive drab camo interesting, so it will be the one. Tnx!

If you want me to post pics of my finished one, let me know.

Duke,
I am always eager to see photos of other modelers work. What colors did you use for the cockpit and wheel wells? The instructions are mostly in Japanese so they are somewhat difficult to understand. They show what appears to be a painting instruction such as pointing to the weapons pylon and missile rail. They have what looks kinda like a percentage sign only 4 parts, beside the #s 1,2 & 3, then the color H314, 2nd line has that funny symbol, #4 H338, and line 3 has the symbol, #5 H8. Is that some sort of paint mixing instruction or what? Thanks, Darwin Alien [alien]

Okay cool. I'll post a pic of the model at the end of this post. As to the colors, here is what I used:

In the cockpit, I used a grey; I believe it was MM dark sea grey. Remember, I built this kit back around the first Gulf War. As to the wheel wells, I had left them unpainted, meaning to get back to them when I learned what color they were supposed to be. The instruction sheet says "Hemp" but I don't know what color that is supposed to be!

Now for the instructions on the sheet:

The H-number, and funky 'percent'-type symbol are painting instructions, but not paint-mixing instructions. Here is how to read them:

The funky % sign followed by the number in a black circle, refers to the version of the kit you are building. Look on the back of the instruction sheet where the painting diagrams are. You'll see in front of each description above the drawing, that same funky 'percent' sign and black number combo. For example:

%1 is the Iraqi Air Force #681 Iranian F-14 Killer during Iran Iraq War.
%3 would be The Syrian Air Force #1487 Combat over the Bekaa Valley.

The H-number is the color to be used, as indicated in the color chart on the bottom of the instruction sheet.

So, in the inset of Step Eight showing the weapons pylons; if you are building Version 1, (%1) Version 2 (%2) or Version 3 (%3) you would paint the weapons pylons H314; which is indicated in the color chart as "Blue FS 35622". Version 4 (%4) would be painted color H338, and Version 5 (%5) would be H8.

Personally, I don't remember what color "Blue FS 35622" really is, but on this model of my F-14 Killer, I painted all the weapons pylons MM Duck Egg Blue, since that was the color I used on the entire underside of the model. I also 'cheated' and put the cannon pack under the fuselage when, according to the instruction sheet, the F-14 Killer didn't carry one. Blush [:I]

Anyway, here is a pic I took and had posted in my Fishbed Thread:

I hope my explanation helped.

Welcome Peruytu! I got quite a few of the Aztec sheets that include the Mig-29's that FAP flys. My fiance is from Peru & has an Uncle(?) in NY.
If it's ok w/ everyone I'd like to change my markings on the Mig-29 that I'm putting together. I got some neat Malaysian AF markings from Victory Productions. My squadron & the Chippies (VFA-195) was down that way in the spring training with them:) - Calvin

Darwin, that is a sweet kit! I built it about 10 years ago i the same F-14 killer markings. I found it interesting that they didn't paint any kind of kill marking on the aircraft. I also have the Iranian F-14 as well! Still, that MiG kit was a lot of fun to build. I've been wanting to get another one to make Syrian too, but haven't been able to.

Enjoy that kit! If you want me to post pics of my finished one, let me know.

TM7,
How about adding my name to the list. The gods of ebay just deposited a 1/72 Fujimi Mig-21MF or Fishbed J on my doorstep. It has decals for 2 Iraqi jets during the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war, Syrian AF during 1982 Israel war, Afghanistan 1990s and Bangladesh AF, undated. I think I will do it as the Mig 21 that shot down a Tomcat, (Iranian). It is typical braille scale as to very basic cockpit and gear wells, but reasonable detail on the outside. It comes with a centerline fuel tank and two AA-2 Atoll missiles. Darwin Alien [alien]
