Okay guys, seems like everyone is having a problem or two. It has been a frustrating day for me as well. lots of interuptions with family stuff and while I was upstairs visiting with some friends that dropped by my daughter and her friend were chasing the cat and it decided to try to hide in my workshop dumping my Halifax and the Essex I've been working on for the Pacific GB onto the floor. The Essex will survive but the Halifax took some major flak damage. Sad [:(]Sad [:(]Sad [:(]

Anyway, I have made some progress so here are some pics starting with the tractor from yesterday. No weathering or anything yet.

I threw my old Airfix Komet in the last picture to show a size comparrison between the two. Just letting the glue dry now before putty work begins. Doubt I will finish tonight either but I still have 6 hours so we'll see.

Joe, your komet looks awesome. Only had a quick look but love the toothpick technique. I'll have to take a closer look later.

This is as far as I'm going tonight. I'm not happy with my build. Still had fun.

Also, my old camera is giving up. I can't get a good picture with it any more.

Progress report: The main part of the paint scheme is done. However, my airbrush is acting up on me today so I'm finding it very difficult to paint. I'm not sure if I'll be able to get the mottling done. I've still got 3 1/2 hours left so I'll keep plugging away. I must admit, I am getting tired and I'm not totally thrilled with my build. As I don't have a camera available at the moment, pix will have to wait 'til tomorrow. Cheers.

well the time is 9:05pm here and i am finished. and none too soon. got the decals on and they did not want to sit right. pul a decal solution on and when i thought it was dry i hit the bird with a dull coat. wow talk about reaction. five min after there were visable cracks, ten min after and it looked like it had been to battle and lost. but ahh well i did get some pics early.

there we are. white 14, a bird that was only used for demonstration.

it was fun all. thanks for having me.

Congradulations Joe Thumbs Up [tup]Party [party], I think you are the only one to actually finish (and with time to spare!!Shock [:O]). This bird got the better of most of us but I had fun and I still have my Academy kit for next weekend! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA!!!!!

Joe, Congrats, brother! I hope the paint damage is not as bad as it reads because your Komet looks really good, and indeed you may have been the only one to complete on time! Well done..! You have won a prize: Karl will send you a paper Komet to build..! LOL Kidding apart, you did really well!

Dave, above all, sorry to hear about the crashes... Hope you can repair the Essex properly... That is a nice Airfix Komet you have there! And your tractor do look good too. Can't wait to see more pics of the 'being built' Komet..!

Josh, good start my friend! Are you having troubles with the side windows too, or is it just me!?

Dan, that is a beautiful yellow. Quite poetic!

Bs, have you ever tried to do the mottling with tiny bits of sponge?

Osher, I'll endeavour to complete my build by Friday (I'm too busy next week end to do any modeling then..!)

I-beam, thanks for your interest!

In a week or so, I'll do a new thread with the final pics from all. I'm expecting some reports from a few other fellow MKDers today or tomorrow, and of course there are those who like me still need a few hours to complete!

As it happened, I did work some more on my Academy kit yesterday night. I literaly shaved plastic off the side windows to make them flush with the rest of the airframe. I still need to buff them back to to point where one can see through rthe windows, but I'm feeling better now. I'm hoping to give the Komet another coat of paint tonight, and I may possibly add the decals too. I only noticed yesterday that the kit hasn't got its svastikas.. And I'm not certain I've got spare ones..

Hey All,
I didn't finish either. The mother in law took the kids aand my bride had other
ideas that didn't include building a model,(More like try to break the bed....)
I got my plane together spent to much time getting those little side windows in!
The seat was way small but I had an old Heller ME-109K and its seat was almost
perfect. As I said I got everything together and I'll paint this afternoon and maybe finish
tonight. I will replace the canopy later with a vac but the kit part is OK for now.
This was fun and it got me off my tail and building (I did start my DR-1 but haven't
finished yet) again,
Good Hunting,
GW

Glad you enjoyed it, Joe. That's the main thing about the hobby, no..?! There are 2 MAD days coming up, one at the end of the month, for 1/35 kits (a week end built in fact!), and another one at the end of Feb, another week end build for Armoured cars. I'm still hoping to run the Mad Matchbox Day in mid-March and the Mad Leopard Week in May. As far as aircraft are concerned, there nothing MAD-like in the pipeline...

I wonder if a Mad Skyhawk Week end would be popular..? Or a Mad Spitfire Week end..? Or a Mad X-planes Week end..?

A Mad Spitfire Weekend could be cool! I think also a Mad Mirage Week could be OK. There are many kits of this aircraft, and many variations, plus the Israeli Nesher/Dagger and Kfir derivatives. There is the Easter long weekend coming up too... Anyway. I enjoyed the Mad Komet Day. Thanks for organsing it.

Sign - Ditto [#ditto] I also learned a great deal! Good lighting is a MUST! Well known kits are better (reviews would help also or prior experience w/ the kit), double check your list of supplies & get plenty of sleep beforehand!! Big Smile [:D]

Will post pics ASAP.Blush [:I]

A second coat of light grey was airbrushed tonight and I am now happier with the result. The base has received some paint too.

I didn't quite make it Sunday night but I managed to get the mottling done and decals applied. All that's left to do now is the flat overcoat and paint the bottom skid and axel. Thank you djmodels for organizing this build! It was quite an experience and I enjoyed it. I'm amazed at what I actually accomplished on the model! I'll try to post pics of my progress ASAP and then I'll finish it.

Update on my V21 Komet: all is proceeding well; two light coats of Future/Klear have been applied tonight; I have now a nice smooth finish to apply decals and a discreet wash in the panel lines. Still hunting for a decent figure I can modify though... I must look at my spare decals for a pair of small svastikas..

Well,
I got mine painted today and am letting it dry good ,I'm at work tonight and will
probably not work on it again till thursday. I did pretty much oob like I planed but
did a little xtra in the cockpit I used a seat from a Hellar me109K added some
seat harness and the little support bars for the armored glass and the little air
intake tube thingy I may go back and add the cstoof lines next to the seat when I
get a vac canopy. I added needle gun barrels and a resin antenna.
Good Hunting,
G.W.

Hi everybody! I finally have some pics to post from Sunday. I didn't quite make it but I'm pleased and surprised by how far I actually got on this project. I reckon I have about another hour or so of work to finish it. Here goes:

I was glad to be part of this build and am now looking forward to Mad Leopard Week!

well then, voila ma petite oeuf de mort :

this is what i managed 2 get done during MKD...

cockpit closeup ( i added a few little bits of styrene strip, rod & wire in there,
also seat harness made from masking tape )

Me-163b w/ scheuchschlepper
i had 2 redo Balkankreuze on wing topsides because one of
'em lifted off during handling & disappeared... Dead [xx(]
the kreuze w/ outlines look more sinister 2 me 4 some reason...

another look, still need 2 mask & paint canopies & add the nose prop / beanie ...
& do a bit of paint touch-up here & there...
i added some chalk pastel 2 accent panel lines, & sprayed clear flat over that.
& that's where it's at now...
this is a fun build, the academy kit fits really well & builds up pretty easily.
thanx 4 proposing this GB, Domi !
as always, u r a most gracious host, & i learn a lot by participating,
not 2 mention getting something close 2 finished !

best wishes 2 all, i'm looking forward 2 checking out more MKD builds now !

Now, that is something I've never though of, Frosty... Using pastels to accentuate panel lines..! Why not!! It sounds good, gonna have to try that! Has anyone else ever tried that!?

Thanks for posting your pics, Frosty. Always a pleasure to see what you come up with!
