you bring up a very good point. we seem to have an issue here. as the kits of both have decals for the squadron let us keep both as options.

In doing some research I came across some of the finer points of VMA-214
They first flew F4U-1A's, then in '45 they flew F4U-1D's off a carrier - does this
matter to the GB intent?

Just ordered the Eduard Color Zoom PE for the Tamiya F4U-1D. Already have the kit & decals, so I,m in pretty good shape.

I still have not decided on what scale 1/48 or 1/32. Currently I have a Trumpeter 1/32 F4U-1D. I have not found any decals for this scale. I have also a 1/48th F4U-4B . I just go and buy another kit. There are plenty of decals for the 1/48th. Any suggestions?

A kit and decals? I need to decide on what scale, but not 1/72 this time. I want to go with at least 1/48 but if I can find a 1/32 scale bird and decals I'll go with that. And then there is always all those aftermarket goodies!

Joe, go ahead & put me down for Academy's 1/48 F4U-1 "Bird Cage" in Lt. Kenneth Walsh's markings. The kit's been staring at me for some time but had not a clue what markings were with it until I opened the Instruction Sheet!! I got a Detail & Scale Vol. 1 and was planning on picking up Kagero's Corsair Vol. 1 with a Squadron book thrown in for good measure. Thanks - Calvin

Okay Joe, I'm in with a April/May start date. I'll do a Tamiya 1/48 F4U-1D in Boyington's markings.

The seller I just bought my Corsair from just started getting some bad feedbacks! I hope I get the kit but I may need to get an alternate.

OK, Joe. I'm in. Got four 1/72 Corsairs to choose from. Hasegawa birdcage and F4U-1D; Jo-Han F4U-1D and R-G F4U1D. Don't know which one will make the cut, but I'll start in April with the rest. Big Smile [:D]

An update to my build subject:

I'll be doing the MPC/Arii/Otaki 1/48 F4U-1D with a Koster Aero Enterprises R-2800 engine (liberated from a F2F-3 Tigercat kit).

Tempting! I remember watching the show on TV when I was a kid - plus as a former Devil Dog I appreciate the theme. I got a couple of 1/48 -1D kits but was gonna put one in Honduran Air Force (Soccer War) markings & the other in Salvadoran Air Force (soccer war) markings. Of couse, the Hasegawa & Tamiya kits over here in Japan are plentiful & inexpensive! I'll let you know! - Calvin
