But I've got the Eagle Strike reference sheet in front of me which does not show the red surrounds. Neither does the Osprey "Aircraft Of The Aces" reference. You really can't trust the decal makers to get it right, but the red surrounds were only used for a few months in 1943. They were discontinued in July, 1943, because of concern the red could be confused with the Japanese Hinomuras. I think white 86 was done in December, 1943, so the red surrounds are highly unlikely.Right or wrong, the red surrounds do look cool.
