I'm really excited, I'm almost finished. Save for the canopy, everything is glued and in place. I did a little "washing", and so it has dark panel lines on the underside and tan ones (for sand/dirt) on the top side. Tomorrow I'll paint the canopy and flat coat the entire model. Give it 24 hours, a little glue, and it'll go on the shelf. Wohoo! It'll be nice to get some room for the B-26, A-1H, and P-47 commng through the works.

I just finished assembling the cockpit, I have the fuselage and the wings primered and ready for assembly this week. I am not to impress with the cockpit detail. Trumpeter could have done better, certainly for the price I paid for this bird. Hopefully will have some pic by next week.

I'm almost done as well. I put all the declas on this evening (there's not many). Tomorrow I'll weather it, which I'm really looking foward to. It'll be my second attempt to weather, and I'm going to try and wash all the panel lines....so it's either going to come out really nice or like crap. Either way, it's only a $6 model. Right now it's got the gloss finish and looks all sharp and clean and fresh out of the factory.

Hmmm. The dreaded red "X"s. The hyperlink works though and so far so good! Great progress.

A little update on mine. After our discussion about the red vs. blue insignia sorrounds, I pulled the decals off the model and re-did them with the proper blue. I'm alsmost done weathering and should have final pics soon.

I hope to "wash" it soon, and as soon as that's finished, decals and flat coat, and I'll be done! I can finish in half a day (minus drying) if I just didn't have to go to work everymorning! I hope to post some more higher quality shots once I finish.

I know I keep saying I'm in this build, but I am, honestly. I put the darker blue on the corsair this morning, so tomorrow it'll get gloss coated and prepped for decals and weathering. I hope to be done by Friday when I move back to Raleigh for school. I'm kinda happy to say that I'll have 5 new models to display in the new apartment.

But I've got the Eagle Strike reference sheet in front of me which does not show the red surrounds. Neither does the Osprey "Aircraft Of The Aces" reference. You really can't trust the decal makers to get it right, but the red surrounds were only used for a few months in 1943. They were discontinued in July, 1943, because of concern the red could be confused with the Japanese Hinomuras. I think white 86 was done in December, 1943, so the red surrounds are highly unlikely.Right or wrong, the red surrounds do look cool.

3d modelling is an option a true mental excercise in frusrtation

Nice job, Oscar. I've got the Cutting Edge reference sheet right here in front of me and it looks like you nailed the markings. That red border was apparently used on 86 Lucybelle and 883 Martha.

I saw some with the red surround from 1943, at least that is how it looked in the 60 year old B+W photo, I may be wrong, but on the other hand, I like the look .
