                        You can spray Future with an air brush. You don't need to thin it because it's already like water.
                        3d modelling is an option a true mental excercise in frusrtation

                        Looks good. How did you apply the future. I'll be using it for the first time on the Mavis and my Corsair. Did you thin it with anything?

                        I have the fuselage halves and wing halves together on the Arii/MPC kit. I'm going to use an R-2800 engine from an old Classic Castings F7F Tigercat resin kit to replace the kit's original engine. The spark plug wire harnes is broken in too many pieces to use but I think I can use the kit's original part.

                        Still need to decide on something for VMF-214 markings.

                        Got all the decals on & a Future top coat to seal them in. Tomorrow I can start final assembly & detailing. Probably won't do much weathering as I prefer my birds clean & this one had just been repainted for the publicity photos.

                        bstrump, Thanks for the comments. The paint used was ModelMaster enamels for the Sea Blue & Intermediate Blue. The White on the underside is Floquil Reefer White enamel.

                        Looks pretty good, rjk.Thumbs Up [tup]Can't wait to see this one all marked up. Can I ask what brand of paint you used? That Flat Sea Blue looks like the best I've seen yet.

                        A small update on my build: Assembly is pretty much complete and it's just about ready for the paint shop. A few seams to clean up and that's it.

                        when it dries take a toothpick and work at it. i have also used the back edge of an exacto. a coat of future covers any scratches.

                        all in all it should be fine. not a major problem.

                        Any suggestions? I forgot to Future the canopy before painting and some dark blue apparently bled through the liquid mask I applied. Any ideas for getting the paint off without wrecking the clear plastic?

                        Thanks Rick and Joe. I appreciate the comments. To answer your question Rick, I'm not really sure why I did that. That's the first time I've ever done that. But then, this is my first ever 48 scale build, too. So maybe is was thinking to do something really different. Truthfully, I did find it easier to paint the fuselage halves while they were still attatched and I did find it easier to pose the model for the pics.

                        Kinda blurry, but looks like it's nice work. Can I ask why you take the build this far with the fuselage half still on the sprue ? Seems like it's a lot easier to handle with it removed.

                        Well, I finally have some pics to post of my progress. All the detail painting of the pit is complete and I added seat belts out of masking tape. My apologies for the quality but these are the best two pics out of the dozen that I took. Just cant seem to get good close-ups.

                        MrBee, that's all I did with mine as well, although there are some other differences, mainly with the cowl flap arrangement. It should probably also have the centerline drop tank which isn't provided in the D kit. But, I felt it was close enough not to worry about.

                        Well, I've finally started work on mine. This Tamiya F4U-1D kit is a dream to work on with a really solid fit all around (so far). I've had the Cutting Edge decals (for Boyington's last flight) for a while now but GreatModels is still dragging their feet in terms of getting me my new canopy. Grrr...

                        Anyway, in addition to switching out the canopy, I'll be leaving off the tanks and pylons. Is that all I'd need to do to convert it to a 1A model or is there more conversion work to be done?

                        No kit for me yet.......I've just got too much other stuff to build. I'd like to get one soon though. Heaps of time left in this GB, so I should be able to fit it in still. I'll let you know as soon as I get something.

                        Had to set it to one side while I finished up some other work. Still haven't got the Future top coat on, but other than that & decals it is pretty much done. Hopefully in the next couple of days I'll get back to it & get some pics.

                        Today I started to build the engine assembly. Nice detail, however I still have not decided how to display it. The kit comes will a clear cowling, which will not be used. Sill waiting to receive the decals, hope they arrive soon.

                        A little bit of progress to report on tonight. All the components of the pit as well as the interior sides of the fuselage have been sprayed green. I'll have pics as soon as I can after detail painting is complete.
