                        then who is the wise guy who said VT-3 when they were based off of the Saratoga. And if the VT-8 on Midway was a Marine unit why weren't they designated VMT-8? BTW wasn't the Vindicator a Army version of the Dauntless or was it the airframe that closely resembled the HellDiver?

                        Mike - there was a ground based VT-8 as well as VT-8 from the Hornet, residing on Midway, they had 6 Avengers. That kind of threw me at first when you said that, and it took me a moment to remember VT-8 on the island was different from the carrier based one.

                        BTW guys there were no Avengers in VT-8 as a matter of fact the Avenger never appeared until early 43 and the squadrons for each carrier are as followed USS Yorktown VT-5 (Torpedo 5) VF-5 (Fighting 5) for bombing and scouting 5 i think the coding is VB-5/VS-5. USS Enterprise VT-6 (Torpedo 6) VF-6 (Fighting 6) and VB-6/VS-6 ( Bombing 6 and Scouting 6). USS Hornet VT-8 ( the ill fated Torpedo 8) VF-8(Fighting 8) VB-8/VS-8 (Bombing 8/Scouting 8 ). All three Torpedo Squadrons were equipped with the TBD-1 Devastator and suffered approximately 90% casualties.

Wink [;)] Actually some big lawyer type in Washington D.C. decided kids weren't responible enough to handle drinking at 18, even though they have been doing it that way here since who knows when... they changed it back in 86 or so... I was 20 in 86 so got to drink for 2 yrs, had to go without a yr then was legal again... it made me dizzy I tell ya!

                        Daniel - it was 96 deg yesterday here... what did you say about beer and cold? Wink [;)] Remember we're beindling building this in MY backyard... ( --edit-- from the typo you can tell I was well into the raw material for the superstructure when I typed that)

                        Yes believe it or not I've actually got the Wildcat out and made some progress, last night I sprayed the wheel bay and undercarriage in light grey. OK, it's not much but at least it's progress.

                        Bob - I had planned on using the kegs for the sprop shafts... but the 1:1 thing doesn't sound bad, I'll present it at my next homeowners association meeting. It would take my neighbors on both sides.

                        Of course there is a nice clearing set in about 100 acres of trees at the back of my house. We could go out to the clearing. Wink [;)]

                        Jules - I am building a 1:10 replica of the USS Wasp out of beer cans in me and my neighbors back yard (a sort of monument to Operation Calendar). I started laying the keel yesterday. Funny thing is I can only get through about a 12 pack at the most and have to call it quits for the day! Wink [;)]

                        Looks like a champ Bob!!! You went the distance on this one. That;s not an easy kit to build and you came out with a winner! One thing which is so small, but I am very impressed with... is you got the correct camber on the landing gear the first time you built this one. It took me till my second (second try on my sendond SBD) till I got it right... and it still seems to nag me and I have to fiddle with it forever to get it right...

                        Congrats and look forward to your contribution to the NAGB!

                        OK-I had to go to the second page...this is not good.

                        Anyway, the SBD-2 is finished-at least for now. Might go back later and add the radio wire, some paint chipping and maybe re-paint the prop/stripes, but overall, I'm happy with the results.

                        Many thanks to the various members of this GB for all the kind words & assistance in various matters/questions.

                        Jules - yeah my neighbor had a close call with the cops the other day... he was working on his engine, took it down the block to the woods at the end of the road... coming back he shot out of the woods and noticed a cop parked about 100 yrds down the road... needless to say I was shocked at the white flash (his bike) that flew past me in the back yard, he layed it down on its side and ran into the house...

                        Tom no pain on a four wheeler eh, a guy i ride with Nat who rides a CR 250 had a head on with a 4 wheeler a couple of years ago and there was a little pain involved for both parties after that incident, the best fun we have is when the cops chase us, they have TT 500's and lurk around the area all the time, in a straight line they'd have us but in the bush we kinda have to wait for them to catch up..........

                        Sounds like fun Tom and no broken bones, i've busted my arm 3 times on the dirt bike and dislocated a shoulder and thumb, maybe i should ride a little slower eh, when i dislocated my shoulder i was riding flat out on a skinny little track with pine trees either side of me and i rode straight through a cobweb with a huge frikkin spider in it, taking no notice of the trail because the spider was on my leg i rode into a bloody pine tree, dislocated shoulder clutch lever broken handle bars bent and mudgaurd snapped....all good fun........

                        Jules - fight the urge and stick with one or so at a time! I am finding my desire to model coming back more strong daily! It was becoming a chore almost to break out a kit...

                        and yeah... you just dock the jetski and secure it in and off you go! Even with the boat it does about 50mph (80 kph), without it the jet-ski alone does about 70mph (112 kph)

                        Plus those two women they threw iun make me a hit with the other boaters! Wink [;)]

                        Lots of forest around here and have been thinking about a 4wheel ATV but for now the boat is fine!! I leave the wife anchored in the lake and go have my fun on the juet ski and we are both happy!!!

                        Darren - I really reccomend an AM kit at least once... the cockpit takes awhile like Jules said but it's worth it!!!
