Scott - looks good! I'll have to do one of those one of these days... at least in US colors haha... I am going to try your method on the landing gear as I have a fresh bottle of India ink waiting atop my model desk.... just to clarify, you futured, used the ink, then futured again???

Jules - if you build a second Martlet Wildcat you might find the Ultracast seat is all you need... that F4F cockpit is ALL covered up when you close the fuselage....

Thanks Scott. I've never been that lucky when I do things out of order. Guess it all balances out somewhere....

Just an OOB build. I didn't cut away the floor but I did scratch build my own seat and seatbelts.

I wish I got a shot of the underside. I used India Ink for my panel lines, but did it before I applied the Future. Well, the Future caused my panel lines to run which did not become a bad thing. I have worked around radial engines and if you notice, all the oil and hydraulic fluid collects and pools in all the dips and creavasses of the undercarriage and turns a sort of transparent pinkish gunmetal color. This little blunder replicated that effect to the tee.

Nice Wildcat Scott-I just picked one up. Planning on building it for the Carrier GB.

Did you add any extras, i.e., PE, resin? Did you alter/cut away the floor?

Thanks

Bob

Hi guys, I hope you don't mind me coming in here, but I built this F4F for the Naval Fighters Group Build for the period during Midway but never got the pics done in time to show it. It is the Tamiya kit with the thick decals.

Thanks,
Scott

Yeah Pingy i remember you mentioning that you wanted to do Minsi III, and your right this GB does kinda host all of our other GB ideas, maybe we should all switch to 1/144 scale to keep up, at the rate wer'e going in 6 months we'll be planning 2010's Gb's..........
Darren I certainly don't have any objections to including all carrier A/C past or present..........

Hmmm, if the Carrier GB is open to all periods then I think I'm going to do the Monogram F9F-5 Panther. I've had the kit for about a year now and I want to see it built up.

Sounds like Jakarta is the place to be to catch all the action, are you sure she's dancing a jig or ar the native boys entangled in her back hair.............

BTW you gotta do a Has Hellcat, the kit just falls together and it's the first build that i did that i didn't have to go back and redo something, the one i have on the to do list has the Eduard set going in it but i still have to source the decals for VF 27 onboard the USS Princeton...........

Jules - while I like the lines of the Hellcat I never really got into it a lot... the bearcat I like a bit more... for some reason I like the "underdog" US Naval aircraft of the period.... the SBD, the F4F with its short stubby wings and pot belly etc... (oh yeah and the SBD) Wink [;)]

Maybe I need to build one to appreciate it more though... hmmm... I'll have to think what I do for the Carrier GB... I am already doing the "carrier based" Spitfire for the N. African GB so that is out (me and my fringe builds)

Oh yeah, I got a post card from Kremps today postmarked Jakarta... it was a pic of her and several native lads... she had all 4 of them in a head lock and it looked curiously like she was making them dance a jig.

Thanks for all the comments guys.

Bob Nice work on the SBD! Thumbs Up [tup] Look forward to some clearer pictures.

Is there a date yet for this Carrier/Dive Bomber GB? I would prefer a carrier GB as I am currently working on a Stuka already but will have to see how things play out in the next few months.

Thanks for the positive comments. I will setup proper lighting for the final pics. Will probably try to 'tone down' the panel lines a bit also.

re: Dive bomber GB-I'm with some of the earlier comments above. As much as I would like to do another SBD, don't think I want to tackle it for at least a year. Would be interested in a 'carrier based' GB for the fall-looks like I may have an opening....and a Wildcat in the closet....The prospects of the Nth Atlantic GB for '06 has me thinking I'll need a great deal of time on the AM Avenger.

Bob Good looking build mate. Should look great when finished.Thumbs Up [tup]

Tom I'm at my uncle's house in Canberra at the moment, and he has a huge collection of old finescale mags. I was going through a few the other day and found an article on converting Tamiya's wildcat to a martlet. I might see if I can borrow the mag, scan it, and send it to you. I'm sure you'd find it interesting.

Dave-Great job on the Avenger. I shutter to think of masking that canopy in 1/72nd. You are a brave man.

Here are the most recent pics-still a few detail items-finish the canopy, paint and add the landing hook, wash the landing gear (and tweak the left side-just a little out of alignment.)

yeah Bob - I got the Hasegawa B-25J (cause it had naked women on the nose of the plane on the box cover Evil [}:)]) and the Dragon King Tiger, Ardennes Offensive... (I know, dunno what came over me)

I was going to get it but forgot to put it in my basket, but they had the Monogram F-106 Delta Dart... I would LOVE to do that one in a NMF... So I hav to go back tomorrow... all the rest either I didn't want to build or I already had one or two in the closet...

looking forward to the pics!!

Hey all-back from 'bama with the canopy masked. Will put the interior green on this evening. With a little luck and a good tail wind, might get finished next weekend. Also got the garage organized enough to set-up the compressor & air brush-again, next weekend.

From our 'for what it's worth' dept-Hobby Lobby has their models at 50% off this week (for those of you in the states). I added a Tamiya Wildcat (the possibilities are endless-just ask Tom) and a Accurate Min. P-51A to the 'to do list'.

Jules - not a prob... would probably get a bigger group in that way (although from the looks of it we weren't lacking for particpants already!!!)

Darren - it's for the N.A. GB... I should have her ready for the exterior paint today, a bit too humid to proceed with it but maybe tomorrow I can. I have to do the Dk Earth, Dk Green on her THEN the deck blue... around th roundels and AC codes they left original. They just wanted to camo them a little from the air so any nosy Germans wouldn't put two and two together and figure out they were going to Malta to resupply the Brits. Evidently both sides felt Matla was a key to NA.

Tom is the Malta Spitfire for a GB or is it something you are doing for yourself? Either way I hope you post some pictures because I'd love to see it.

Oh and great, I just noticed page one and the fact that almost everyone is finished, oh well what's new I'm dragging up the rear as usual.

Dave nice work on the Avenger

I know this is probably a tad late in the day but I just noticed that my AM TBF-1C that I got from eBay has an extra set of Yellow Hammer decals in it which include an aircraft from VT-8. If anybody wants them drop me an email as I plan on doing my Avenger in Nth Atlantic colors.

Jules I'm with you extend the Dauntless/Divebomber GB to a Carrier A/C GB, the possibilities there are just about endless. Either way Captain say yes to anything will be there.

Cheers

so... whats everyone been up to? We had a blow out block party in the neighborhood last night.. food, spirits and fun! Feeling a little worn for it this morning...

My Zero is ready to decal but I got involved on a Malta Spitfire and am sidetracked at the moment. Being this build still is open as far as endings I will wait till I finish the spit, do the zero then go full force into another Spit for the Aussie GB...

Well, here we go. This Academy 1/72 kit is no where near the quality of your SBD Am kits but I hope it is worhty enough for this GB. I have three other Academy 1/72 scale kits and they were all excellent kits, too bad about this one. The worst part (aside from all the inaccuracies) was the rounded frames on the canopy. Made it near impossible to cut a mask in the proper place. Not to mention the ejector pin mark at the top of the turret... ON THE INSIDE!!! Angry [:(!]

Anyway, I had fun building it and added some masking tape seat belts, and replaced the domed side windows (which had major sink holes) with some clear plastic cut from a pop bottle. AM decals are from Techmod. I still need to add the Squadron markings (8-T-1) for the midway group but I need to print my own and as I am still between houses and living in a RV somethings are going to have to wait.

EDit: Still need some touch ups and an antenae wire, maybe some very mild weathering. Cheers.
