                        Yeah Tom She has some real skills despite the hand size/deformity thing she's got going onThumbs Up [tup]
                        Whatever the true scheme is i think i'm gonna exersise some "Artistic Licence" and paint it like that, i reckon that it does a lot to break the monotone appearance of all over IJN grey...
                        BTW I'm seriously hating masking this Zero canopy, seem to be having a little trouble holding the knife steady against the canopy framing, Hmmmm a thought "send canopy to Tom it should get there be masked and get back in a few weeks, just in time to paint the uppersurface colourThumbs Up [tup] just kidding it's half done but i'm only doing a little at a time.........

                        Jules - hmmm ... worth more research tonight... wait.... aren't those the kits entered in the last championship? They looked familiar now I know why!!!

                        How she bends PE with those musk ox sized hands of hers is beyond me... especially because she doesn't even use tweezers!

                        Yeah fellas i learned early that when you make a custom mix to save the leftovers just in case, my custom RLM 79 mix for the 109G2 i made up in the original bottle of Gunze and i still have enough left for probably 2 more models, but i can't see myself making another 2 more desert 109's..........

                        Darren - you bet I hate it!!! and I was so careful to mix it in a resealable jar etc... and make enough for all eventualities.. but when I was done spraying I dumped out the extra and went and cleaned out the bottle... ::sigh::

                        Oh well, no loss as I plan on a light overcoat anyway... but the old one would have been ok with me otherwise. I'm not THAT much of a rivet couter...

                        Boy don't you hate it when you do that. It's got to be one of my most common and annoying mistakes. Good luck with your misting Tom.

                        it was a custom mix that I probably can't duplicate.. thats ok, more research on j-aircraft.com today shows the color of the zero to have a bit more green to it so I can mist the fuselage along with painting the other parts this weekend...

                        I found this on j-aircraft.com and they listed this as a pre-war aircraft... would like to see any data you have though... it IS an interesting scheme! Who knows maybe we could do a pre war GB one day for both the US, UK, Russia and Japan and Germany.

                        I was reading somewhere... forgot where, in early war years (which would have covered Midway) land based AC would be parked with the flaps down, in the case of the SBD the upper dive brakes would be closed, the lower flap would be lowered. I forget the reasoning behind them doing this but it was discontinued around midwar. I think it was on an SBD buildup page from AM or someone.

                        I built my most recent SBD like that and it was rather pleasing... you coud see the detail of the actuators and the nice red of the inner flaps even without handling the model, but the scene was more realistic if you were planning to put it in a dio or such.

                        I also closed the canopy and had no ordnance on the mounts (model contests be damned!) as parked on the tarmac that would be more what you would expect unless it was returning from or being readied for a mission.

                        (secretly I like the brakes and flaps wide open as well and my first two were done like that)

                        On the ground, I think most SBD's would have had their flaps closed. I think a bit of modellers licence is used in positioning them in the full open. I just posed them open because it looks cool and adds interest to the model.

                        I have a question on my SBD. What position are the dive flaps in when the a/c is parked? I have seen them open and I have seen them closed. I'm thinking when I see them open people are showing off the detail????

                        Tom did a Zero a few months ago and I didnt have to clear much space out to put her on display, that thang was small.

                        Jules - ok... Kremps did ALL of it!!! hmmm I dont have that issue of FSM... think you could do a scan of a pic for me? I'd be interested to see it! I'll hop on over to j-aircraft later to see what I can find on it... BTW: Kremps said don't touch that 109 for the NA GB before she gets back, she said the future she sprayed last night won't be cured enough yet for her to start weathering until later today.

                        looking good Tom Soooo how much did "Kremps" help...........
                        BTW quite a lot of the zero's i've come across during research show them to have a lighter shade of IJN grey almost white from about half way down the rear fueselage, check out the Zero in FSM's 2005 great scale modelling mag, in the Portfolio of Steve Hustads Japanese A/C, page 51

                        Looks good Tom. I felt the same way when I built my first 109. I was working on the SBD at the time, and had done a Hellcat and P-47 not long before. They seem so big compared to Zero's and 109's. Even my Wildcat is huge sitting next to them......That weathering should look nice too.

                        ok some preliminary pics of the A6M2.... I chose my own special blend of paint, nearest to what I felt the "ash-gray" should be. Right now I misted it with a coat of future to wait for the next time I get in on it and prevent scuffing in the meantime. I need to work on one of the wing root seams I see by one of the pics as well...

                        got the Zero primered today, and after I go and touch up some sanding issues I saw after priming I am going to preshade it.. I got the idea from looking at a website for a modeling show. They had a Zero displayed there and instead of the gray or black it was using a greyish green from the nearest I could figure for the pre-shading. And part of the weathering was in a light (very light) rust... all the streaks of this color seemed to follow the direction of the wind flow... I'll see if I can find the pic and post it... overall it looked pretty good.

                        It feels wierd calling this kit a 1/48 though. After the SBD's, Ju87, F8F's etc it looks more like 1/72!!

                        every AM SBD I've built so far has taken a bit to complete Thad.. sometimes I end up sitting it aside to do an easy kit. Overall it isn't a hard kit, but after the cockpit and closing the fuselage I am planning on taking a break on any future ones I do!

                        Nah Tom "Kremps" is staying at the nurses quarters, apparently since Lunchalot left the managment at Happy Acres has been hard pressed to find a big strong Woman to control the inmates err i mean patients so they have put old "Kremps" back on for some sort of trial periodThumbs Up [tup] if all works well she might be able to get her old job back on a permanent basis...........

                        Disapprove [V] I was afraid of that Jules... you'll get the old fires stirred up again and next thing ya know Tweety is right back at Happy Acres... which is right where Kremps wants him. they know she is the only one that can handle him and they'll give her the job back in a flash when he shows up!!!

                        Have a respite from real life this weekend as the significant other is at a karate tournament all weekend... plan to get some work done on all 3 models.. the P-47, the Stuke and the Zero.. only thing left on the Zero is some small bits and prime and paint!!! (of course all the mundane stuff like decaling and stuff afterwards)
