Dang Oilers, won in the shoot out!! Disapprove [V]Disapprove [V]Disapprove [V]Disapprove [V] I know Jay's gonna let us know all about it!

cdclukey Sounds great, can't wait to see some pics.

Tony I'm sure it will work out fine though I do hate mixing paints too.

superbear Habs? Come on Disapprove [V]

So I'm in Vancouver today and I drop by the LHS (always a dangerous thing) thinking I would pick up a small armour kit as a nice break from all the big 4 engine aircraft I have been doing lately (and will be doing in the near future) and what do I walk out with... The Hasegawa Lancaster KIt. Black Eye [B)]Black Eye [B)] Seems I just have no self control when it comes to the big ones!!! Big Smile [:D] It was $20 less than the MSRP and I could not have ordered it on line for any cheaper so I "had" to buy it! I'm still going to do the Sunderland for this build though and let my wife wrap up the Lanc for either my b'day or christmas later this year.

Hope you're all having as good a weekend as I am!

CF-18 progress report
Posted by cdclukey on Friday, October 7, 2005 3:30 PM
The other night I had some paint curing on my American sub, so I took the opportunity to see what I could get done on the CF-18 and managed to do the seat, pilot, cockpit floor and stick in one fell swoop. I'm probably going to put some flat coat on them before I install it all, there's enough of a sheen on the pilot's flight suit (I used Testor enamel) that it doesn't look like cloth.

Oh, and I painted his helmet as red as the maple leaf on the flag! It's going to look great through the canopy with the red decals and the maple leaf on the base.

The sub gets finished tonight, and then I can give my full concentration to CF-18. I'm like a little kid on this project, I can tell it's going to be a whole lot of fun.

Yeah Superbear, les Canadiens are my next team after the Oilers.

I finally started putting the sqdn codes on. This morning I just put on the starboard decals EE*S and it looks great! This time they are the right size! We'll see if this thanksgiving weekend I can get some more done.

My Leading Edge Decals for the T-33 have arrived, and they are really good, although the scheme will require some paint mixing, which is just about my pet hate. Can never replicate it again for the touch ups.
Cheers

I've got three tv's in the house but do you think I could put one beside the modeling desk... oh right... got to build the modeling desk first Blush [:I]. Seriously though, after the strike I didn't think I would give a bleep when they got back to it but I guess it's in the blood (or something to do with the cold weather). Big Smile [:D]

Edit: going away this weekend to Vancouver for Thanksgiving (No my American friends do not adjust your calendars, we Canadians can't wait until November for Thanskgiving) so no modeling being done but hope to get a start on the Sunderland when I get back.

I'll post some pics when I've figured out what's needed to do so. It won't be till next week as I'm off this weekend to close the familly cottage and stuff myself with some not very wild turkey. Take care all.

Ga.modler Your CF-18 looks cool, but Canadian Hornets do have a tendency to look cool eh, i may have to put the props down for a while and get into one, Hmmm maybe a Canadian one and an Australian one, i reckon they would look great sitting next to one another on the benchApprove [^]

Ga.modler, Turkeys!? Cool, the only place there is wild turkey in Alberta is in the Cypress Hills (SE corner of Alberta) a really neat phenomenon where there is a bunch of hills that tower about 1000 feet above the bald ****** flat prairies. You can't really hunt there as most of the Cypress Hills are protected by a Provincial Park and I think the population is quite small as they were introduced a long time ago. For deer, we have tons of White Tail and even more Mulies! My wifes parents have a beautiful Mule deer buck's head above their fire place, it goes really well in their log house. The funny thing is no one in her family or mine hunt! They had a neighbour who hunts and he gave it to them as he was moving and didn't want to take it with him.

Lets see some progress pics guys!

well got a little more done on the f-18. she is all most all painted. i only have to put the top coat on and then future it and decal it. well jay what i hunt down here is whitetail deer and turkey, i would love to come and hunt up in the great white north. i know you all have some monster deer in canada. its been real slow havent seen a deer yet. the way the weather has been the past few months its made it very hard this year. but our bow season is all most over it ends on oct 22 an then the games begin with the guns and i hope it picks up by then and the temps cool of were still in the high 80 to 90 degrees and it makes it hard to hunt it warm weather Big Smile [:D]Big Smile [:D]

Good stuff on both of them Jay. I'm yet to have a model that doesn't have some mini crisis like that decal on your beaufighter.

Thanks for the comments guys.
Dave, trust me, the patch of paint is quite visible, especially when in hand.
Jules, I hear ya! It used to be clean, then each day a little bit more stuff hear and there, another paint bottle out, a knife or saw not put away then voila, I am working on a 15x15cm space on my cutting matt. I really should do a cleaning...Whistling [:-^]

It is going ot take longer for the squadron codes as this morning I cut them out and found out these ones are also way too large! I'll have to print out some more (3rd times the charm?) then wait another 4 days! Banged Head [banghead] Printing your own decals is cool but the waiting game with the ink is frustrating. At least I have another build on the go and I could always start removing all the rivets on my Boly for the other half of this build.

Dave Thanks for the feedback. Your right it is an impressive detail set but to pay more than the kit for something you wont see i'll pass to.

Jay Super work on the hurricaneBow [bow] I love the weathering overall an excellent effort, great progress on the beaufighter.

Status Report

The wing assembly is built as well as the fuselage. I'm presently working on a cockpit using Eduards pe set for a hurricane II.

Cheers

Ooo dave, you gonna have quite the build on your hands, as flying boats go, the Sunderland is a nice looking ship/boat/plane. It's gonna be freakin' huge man!Shock [:O] awesome score!

Anthony, looking good, can't waint to see some paint on that sucker!

Well, I had a good morning here, lots of progress on my Pearl Harbour Zero and I though I'd get some pics for this one too up too. Here is the current state of my Beaufighter, you can see the ugly patch of white paint near the starboard nacelle where the decal ripped. I applied another coat of future and am waiting for it to cure before I put on the new set of squadron codes.

And just for you Marc, my BoB hurricane from RCAF 1 sqdn.Tongue [:P]

Bear it looks pretty decent for an airfix kit though it lacks any interior detail as typical for its age. I've only test fitted the main wings so far and it will require some fiddling as usual. I found a really good review on a build up over at Hyperscale using the White Ensign detail sets.

http://hsfeatures.com/features04/sunderlandbt_1.htm

The WE set is very impressive but costs more than the kit and you won't see much of it once its closed up so I'm going to pass and try my hand at scratching some of the interior for the cockpit and the antenae.

Anthony nice work on your build.

Dave At first glance how does your kit look. I recently picked up the Airfix Halifax and did some test fits of the fuselage.I found some nasty gaps when you place the winshield to the fuselage anong others. I'm considering the sunderland for a future project and was wondering at the quality of the kit.
