Canadian GB -ALL SUBJECTS- (Sept 01 - to whenever finished)

I'm getting closer, last night I intalled the main gears, it went better than anticipated (not to much fiddling) now I have the canopy to paint and install, paint the prop tips and some misc touch ups then the decals maybe by this weekend providing the wife and the Lancaster dont distract me

Thanks Jay and Marc, I can see the light at the end of the tunnel so to speak.  I have some house painting to start this weekend but hope to start painting the Sunderland shortly after that.  I think I will have to do a rattle can for the white on this one.  I wonder how many coats it will take.

Jay, I like having those coffee table type books for flipping through when inspiration/motivation is needed.

BTW I have the same book under all those magazines!  It is a good overall reference but not much for details you can add to a model. nice colour profiles though.

Well a combination of more time on my hands last night than I thought and a little bit of impatience on my part resulted in getting the fuse and wings all glued together last night.  It went together not too bad but I will definitley need to do some filing and sanding.  Anyway, the pics...

Thanks for the info Jay.  That 110 is probably as detailed as my Hurricanes a definite challenge as for decals I did see a set for a 110C in 1/72 by TECHMOD  check out the flightdecs site  http://www.flightdecs.ca/

Marc:  Looking good!  especially for an old airfix kit!  What is it with this group and all the old airfix and hobby craft kits?  Suckers for punishment I guess.  Anyway, looking forward to the finished pics!  (no I will not be holding my breath)

Jay:  Don't know of any Bf 110 decals but the LHS here has (had?) a BoB sheet in 1/72 for a spitfire, a Bf 109 and a couple of hurricanes.  Tomorrow is payday so I might go pick them up if they are still there and the store is open.  The owner has been in the hospital lately so his hours have been sporadic.

Progress:  Got all the neccessary windows masked and glued in place (whew) and hope to close the fuse up over the next couple of days.  Yes it will probably take a couple of days to work it together properly.  Some slight warpage and mis-alignment issues but should work out okay.  Been losing motivation on this one but now that the masking is done it is starting to pick up again.  Hope to get substantial complettion done before I gtet involved in the Battle of the Atlantic GB which starts on Wednesday!

Jay the sister build was another Hurricane actualy I was building 3 for a BoB dio I've had in mind for a while.  I'll pick up another kit and try again.  I did wash it down prior to painting maybe I did not rince it off well enough or used to much soap and some residue stayed on ???? or my greasy paws were the culprit?.  I'll be more carefull with #3 and the new one when I get it.  I might just keep it for the BoB GB I heard was comming, do you know what date it's supposed to start.

So what was the sister build?  another Hurricane or maybe a spitfire?  I can't remember if you mentioned it before.

Maybe the paint was crinkling, cracking and peeling because of 'dirty' plastic.  I have had some paint not go down nice in areas where my greasy and grimy fingers have touched the plastic or where there is tape residue.  I have found a quick wash with slightly soapy water works well.  I have also seen some people use rubber/vynl gloves or cotten gloves when handling their models.

Jay/Rick thanks for the pos feedback.  It took some work to smooth out the ridges however the end result is quite acceptable.  Unfortunately the sister build to this one had to be scraped the paint did not stick well and started crincling in some places, pealing in others and the odd blister,  back to the old drawing board.

Yes Anthony14, I am not going to be finishing before Jan 31 as I am working on some minor reno's.  I'm in the middle of fixing up and painting the soon-to-be-nursery/baby room.  Not much modeling for the next week or so until that is finished I'm afraid.  So I made an "indefinite" end date - when ever you can!

Nice work on the Hurricane Mark.  Made the old Airfix kit look respectable.

Anthony Don't worry Jay gave us an extention to "when we finish".  I know I probably won't make the deadline neither will Dave and Jay is a definit maybe.

Jay You can start breathing now  here are my progress pics.  In typical Airfix the main gears are going to take some fidling to install.  I futured the canopy & glare shield then it's mask & paint. As for weathering I'm not to shure how I'll proceed my weathering skills are'nt that great time will tel.

Jay My that B looks gray to me. 

I'm having a Heck of a time with my paint (tamiya cans) some sections keep crincling (is that a word???) I'm into touch ups then I have to do the trim on the underside and then finish assembling.  I'm hopping to get some work in this weekend my wife promissed to leave me to my styrene and if work leaves me alone it should be a good weekend progress pic's to come.

Jay, comparing the tonal value of the B in the pic to the white in the roundel & fin flash, I'd guess it was either a light gray, sky, or yellow.  Just my opinion, but light gray is probably more likely.

Thanks guys, I've got the second coat of yellow on and now I just have to get the black stripes masked off and at the same time also mask the aircraft serial and make it look like the one in my sig.  I still am not sure if I want to do the aircraf tin my sig or another one that has a few more markings on it.  let me know what you think.  Does the aircraft below have a white "B" on its side? I'm thinking of doing that one.

So here are few pics, I need to do a second coat of yellow before the black stripes get sprayed.  I was going to do that this morning but it was too cold.  The temp today is supposed to be +10 C so I should be able to get the second coat of yellow on tonight.
