Young Guns GB #2

excellent. I'm really looking forward to the nats. It's gonna rock. I'm gonna bankrupt myself there!! It'll be great to meet some junior modelers from around the world too (if they come). And show 'em the good ol' US home boys are just as good!

ygmodeler4- Yeah, this project was pretty boring, too, but I was able to make the best of a bad situation.

Speakin' of which, here's a couple pictures of the C-54. It's done up in the scheme of Gail Halvorsen's "Candy Bomber" of the 1948-48 Berlin Airlift.

Here you can really see how bad the finish on this thing really is. I had to use paint from a spray can (not one made for models, either.), and the results are less than stellar. I'll admit it's not my best work. But with Track practice and school and the time crunch I think I had about 10 hours to get this done.

You can't tell, but the two green nose decals are supposed to meet in the front. They didn't, and I don't own any decal setting solution. So, I just left it alone. Like I said, not my best work. (The wire on the nosewheel is to keep the nose down. No need for nose weight that way.)

The actual box/tarmac is done, except for paint, that is. I'll get some completed pics this weekend, tarmac and all. Then I'll turn it in and possibly never get it back.

Wow looks great. I think the finish looks fine. But that's justme. Looks good.

Got my Sherman today. Wont be able to start. Remodeling my modeling area. Also have alot of homework.

lucien harpress- i think your finnish looks good in some places and then some areas are....sub par, i think it was the result of either: unclean surface (clean the model with soap and water to get rid of finger prints and oils) for better adhersion, OR don't feel if its wet or dry, leave it for 2-3 days to completely dry, u might have touched a wet spot, OR keep it in a dust-free place cuz dust is attracted to nice, clean, finnishes *shakes fist*
BUT besides that i think it looks awesome!
ygmodeler- if your anything like me remodeling (or cleaning) ur modeling space is USELESS!!!! it will just get cluttered, and messy again!! and with stuff you dont even need!!! (i.e (whats on my desk now): CD case, russian army medal, switch blade, sprues (from last Young GUN GB!!!!) a broken floppy disk (with pinstriping on it hehehe) AND, TONS of branches glued together (was supposed to be a tree for the battle of the bulge GB but i failed...)

I have a whole room to myself for my models, well more than half a room.
Finally, my 234/3 Armored Car is completely built and painted totally, just need to flat (spray on whole thing?) and weather it. I'll post pics when I'm done with everything after the competition tomorrow. The camo scheme is awesome!

About the licence thing... I have a car but no licence ( only turning 15 in October )

But there is only one thing you need to know, the speed limit is the MAX your car can put out!

I'm still waiting for my model to arrive! On the other hand its given me a lot of time to finsh my B24D for the upcoming regionals down in the capital so its worked out to be good! Just need to paint and weather and she'll be done, it should take less than a week shouldn't it...?

scer16- I'm not a big armor guy, but that looks great!

Continuing the licence thing- I have my licence, but what I have for a vehicle barely qualifies as a car. The first shot- It's a Ford (the Chevy Man's ultimate enemy). The second shot- it's a Ford Escort. As if that were'nt bad enough, its a Ford Escort LX, which is fancy speak for Station Wagon!! At least it gets me from point A to B, and doesn't guzzle the gas, a real plus nowadays.

I think the main problem with the C-54 was the type of paint. It was some weird Acrylic Enamel (just reading off the can) stuff in a spray can. It was also put on with one coat, which didn't help things any. Then when it dried it got that strange wrinkled appearance, which was aggravated by the NMF nature of the color. The plane being such a small scale just aggravated things that much more. So I was shot on many different fronts all at the same time.

That's it? I think I've got that just in my spares box! My bench right now is overflowing with both modeling equipment (sprues, razor blades, assorted pieces of plastic) and electrical equipment (for the Ju 290Z- motors, scrap switches, and more wire than you would think possible.) I guess it's inevitable, but out of a 3 X 6 foot workbench I think I'm working off of a 1 X .5 foot section.

It probably will get more messy but it'll be bigger. My dad and I are putting in upper cabinets. 90 inches of them. Then putting thirty inches worthof base drawers 15 on each side. then a 95 inch counter top. Oh and wer're getting tile to. It'll be similar to my moms sewing area.

Thats pretty ygmodeler. My hobby room is the size of a one car garage, its connected to our shop. Its got all of the necessities, fridge, tv- dvd, radio, sink, and even a toaster oven for some snacks or baking clay. I got a nice big counter top too but the carpet color blends in perfectly with those tan colored tamiya parts.

Scer, looks good. I have got to get me som of those mig pigments, there effect is incredible. did you seal them up with a flatcoat?

No reb I didnt, but I think I should have. When the judge picked it up, he got the powder on his fingers, kinda funny, but it left fingerprints on the tires. I just got some powder on a dried paint brush, and kinda "painted" it on there.

Arent the judges not supposed to ouch the model?

my workspace is about a 8' by 4' pile of drywall on top of a coupl cinder blocks in our back basement. its fairly dry, as long as u dont keep stuff on the floor during a hard rainstorm or when the sump pump fails. but we got a four inch rise on all the shelves, so nothing on the bottm really ever gets wet. flourescent lighting, cold hard concrete floors (needs painting), n the top workspace is forever cluttered with sh!t. i shud get som pics up. didnt we do tht b4?

im interested, but i cant really commit cos im not actively modelling right now. if i do anything its gonna be something simple, cos i probably wont be able to start till very late.

my workdesk is 2ft x 1 1/2ft but because of all the junk, its 6in x 1ft :D, its in the basement, pretty dark too, with a slit for a window, and a lamp with a dim bulb, its got a stereo , and my comp so im set!
i didnt order my 7tp yet!!! i really should... but i cant find the time, i have to get the panther dio off of it first (its been taking FOREVER!!)

I'm also going to try and get a couple of days a week in at the Hobby store, its too far away for going there every day.

speaking of summer, when do you guys get out of school?
I get out June 10th and I am counting down!

June 10th. Lucky I get out the 17th. Not countiun down yewt though.

16th I believe. 40 some days left, 20 some of each class. Which means I have around 37.5 hours left in each class

Lucky. You get out the 16th. We got one added due to snowdays. Do you have block scheduling?

Yea, 4 blocks A-day and 4 on B-day
I think the extra day you got out was the day we had a 2 hour delay. But I think we have one extra snow day left
