well i thought i had markings for the swedish f-18s stil i will build one for the group if i can find markings, since thier are no squadrons of swedish f-18s my plan is to put them on the wings and one big one on both tails Big Smile [:D]Big Smile [:D]

Johan, thanks for the welcome. Just one question and please pardon my ignorence what is the signifigance of the three crowns in swedish markings ? mick b

If I understod it right the three crowns dates back to 900 A.D. and is representing the three wise men that is supposed to have been three kings. Denmark, Norway and Sweden fought bitter wars with each others because of this three crowns, Norways lion and Denmarks two lions all claiming they had the right to them as they used them first. There was two wars over this before it all settled down.
I take no responsibility for the correctness of this, but it was what I could find on the internet and there was several sources stating the same thing so I beleive it's correct.

That´s a very cool lookin' pic, kik36!
The kit has recessed panel lines and looks farely good. Let us know how it goes with your lines.

Best /Johan

Johan you are on a roll!! Things are looking hot!! Are your panel lines engraved or raised?

I got my Saab today guys.....the Airfix 1/48 Saab Viggen. The kit leaves a lot to be desired in the cockpit and landing gear areas. I am going to have to do some serious thinking and building to make this a beauty. But she's not all bad, just has some quirks.....like raised panel lines.....grrrrrr.....I have never re-scribed panels....so I will try to build as is first, and if I screw up the lines, I will be forced to give it a shot. Right now I am doing some research on the cockpit to see what I can get in the way of AM pieces, and what I will have to scratchbuild.

Karl, if I see anything for your kit in my search I'll give you a shout!

Much bigger, with a garage and 1/2 acre of land. And, most importantly, I own it. The hobby room/den is smaller (normal-ish bedroom size for here in the US) but that's OK, there was a lot of open "wasted" space in my old one.

So here's what I have: Revell 1?72 JAS 39 Gripen and Hasegawa 1/72 AJ-37 Viggen. Initially I was thinking just out of the box for both, but thought I'd query the group about any aftermarket goodies out there.... any ideas?

I decided to add this PE set from eduard to my flying Gripen. I also decided to parallell-build the Gripen twin-seater, (also from italeri) straight from the box (almost)

The Eduard set.

I glued the bay doors shut for the flying single-seater.

I glued the fuselage halves together in an early stage becouse of an ugly seam in the rear cocpit wall.

The air inlets are a bit shallow, so I opened them up. This is the two-seater, but the one-seater got the same treatment. I´m going to paint the interior black so that you can´t see a wall from the outside, only darkness.

Ga.modler - I found a pic of a F/A-18 with Swedish markings in a book. Is this the plane youre building? I´m sure I will some day...

I started in April and runs to the end of the year, but it´s not written in stone. Start whenever you´re ready and if we all need more time then we´ll make it sot of open ended.

and I've made a bit of progress unpacking my house - and ordered a spray booth from MicroMark (so I don't have to paint in the garage clear on the other end of the house). Hopefully in another couple weeks I can get to work...

Hey all -
Finally got internet hooked up in the new house (and FSM loads a LOT faster on DSL than it did on 56K!!!).

I have 2 Swedish kits in the stash - a Grippen and a Viggen, both in 1/72. I'm not QUITE ready to build yet, still more unpacking and setting up to do, but hopefully soon!

I guess that if Sweden bought the Eurofighter they would paint it simular to the scheme on the Gripen. There are different schemes during development but they are all variations of gray. It sounds like a great what-if.

Here´s three different gray schemes

This is the latest with a light gray underside and radome with a smooth curved line. This is the scheme I´m going to use, along with the gray insignias.

This older shceme features a black radome and the lighter gray is on the underside only (But not on the underside of the canards).

This is a very erly Gripen with an all-over gray.

Hope this will help you, it would be great to see a Swedish Eurofighter.
