North African GB "All Subjects" (Start NOW - Finish 31st of Oct)

I think the plane needs an exorcism. Bad luck, when this repeatedly happens to me, I just throw the rest of the build together ina hhurry and move on to bigger and better things.

I've just managed to drop the 406 onto the floor, splitting the wing seam practically all the way around the fuselage!!!!!



This thing is cursed! What have I done to anger the modelling gods?

Progress Update

Started decalling the 406 last night, discovered that there is no way the rudder stripes are going to fit, they were designed for the CA kit and not the this Hobbycr@p one that I'm building!!!

Right, Plan B, which had been plan A when I started the build, 406 in combined Armee de l'Air and RAF camo. This does of course mean that it has to go back into the paint shop for the undersides of the wings to be painted black and white, one colour per side, and several patches of OD to be applied.

So the extra couple of weeks would be appreciated.

Will this build never end?

Ok I got someconstruction pics. The fender you can see is bent upwards, and how it doesnt fit at the back (the hull and the fender) which I dont know if its my fault or the kit fault, probably mine though.

lol tho, I'll put new batteries in, I just have to walk upstairs

Tom seriously? So that problem goes away if I use my hp-bcs for future? In the end I got around that with my antherm by laying on the future good and thick.

YG - good brush, I have one too... maybe if he gets hooked you can talk him into at least the Iwata HP-CR.. it really is a great brush...

I remember that Anthem was a sweetie right out of the box... good detail and decent moderate coverage... for some reason unthinned future didn't like that brush for some reason.. it always seemed to get the rough "too much pressure/too far from the model" syndrome... with the 175 and HP-CR I haven't had that...

Anyway, you're producing some awesome results with it so keep it up!!! Look forward to pics! (hint: charge the batteries now so they're ready when you go to take pics... ::knowing look at Jules and Scer:: )

Well I'm around half done with my Pz III. My Dragon fenders are warped a lot. When I put new batteries in my camera, I'll post a pic.

I got on June 4 for my bday and he just getting to use it.

Looking great YG!!! you and Dad did a good job! Is it a new airbrush or is he just now getting to use it? Looking forward to seeing more, I saw one of your other builds and you're really getting the hang of this hobby! (Wish *I* could haha)

Ive been really busy and really lazy.
My dad and I sprayed on the base coat today. My dad thought it was really cool.(the airbrush)

Darren - no I dont have the preset handle. I'm not sure I will get it yet.. I'm still learning mine like it is.. And that's what mine basically is.. the CS with a .5mm nozzle/needle combo. The only other diff is the head is in two pieces whereas the CS has it in three... there is an extra piece on the end of the CS that helps protect the needle that mine doesnt have... (but the needle is still recessed and protected all the same...)

Karl, I couldn't agree more on your point about PE vs resin. PE is great don't get me wrong but it just does not have the depth to represent a lot of bits and pieces especially in cockpits. However, the exact same argument is true in reverse, there are things that you cannot do in resin that look brilliant in PE. I think it's a matter of mix and match and use each for what it's best at. Oh yeah Iwata rules

Tanky you are correct the HP-CS and HP-BCS are basically the same brush with the exception of the siphon feed jar on the BSC. Btw I have enough trouble with 1/48 PE let alone 1/72.

Tom do you have the pre-set handle on your Iwata? I'm thinking seriously about getting one for mine and wanted to know what's your opinion of it if you have one. Oh yeah Salty's recommendation of the HP-CS was one of the reasons I picked up that AB in the first place.

Jules if you are looking at the HP-CS, do yourself a favour and pick up the .5mm needle, nozzle & nozzle cap for an extra $20. It's a very quick change and allows broad coverage work or fine detail depending on your need.

Tweets congratulation on the new place and good luck with practising those negotiation skills!!! Perhaps try to frame it so it's a win for SWMBO by saying that all your modeling stuff will be packed away so that it's not under foot while you're trying to set the rest of the house up.

Tanky - the 175 sat idle for a yr while I chugged away on the anthem so not it's HIS turn to be used!

Oof, harsh life your once trusted anthem lives. An excellent brush, cruelly neglected by Tom's evilosity. LOL. I haven't used my anthem in about 2 months now. But then again I haven't used my Iwata in about a month so I'm just not airburshing very mucch.

Tanky - yup... just where how get the paint is different..

Karl - yeah the 155 Anthem I had does great across a broad spectrum but can't do nearly the detail my Iwata does... on the other hand the Iwata can't do near the broad coverage my 175 Crescendo can... so I switch between the Iwata and the 175 now... and the quality shows!! I think that's whare some trouble spots for me before came from, trying to do too much with one brush.

The 155 Anthem has since collected a fair amount of dust

I don't buy the one tip one head combo anymore either Tom, not since I swapped to the Badger 100 SG with fine head. This things sounds like it's in much the same league as the Iwata's.

I still use my Omni 4000 for area work, but for everything else, it just has to be the 100.

Tanky I feel your pain, I tried folding up the late model head armour for my
1/48 109 G during the week. I could barely see some of the areas to be folded. In the end I binned it and used the kit part. I coming around to the view that PE is overated, especially in cockpits where it doesn't have the depth of resin.

Hp-cs and bcs are the same brush except bcs is siphon fed, right?

I know it' s not forthis GB, but I've spent the last hour folding one PE part for the cpkpit of my 1/72 su-27. Yup, 1/72. I hate 1/72 PE. I've spent about 2 hours cursing whatever sick b****** it was that invented PE. And the thing is, I'm not even done folding it. I hope I'll be done soon, and then I can fold the other 15 poeces in the cockpit. Yay.

I misread that at first and substitued a B for a G in the BOG GB thing... I was wondering what you were trying to pull over on us haha... He219's in the BoB? hmmm...

Jules I reckon for an all around brush you would want to look at the HP-CS, it's a little more money than the CR but also has a smaller needle/nozzle combo which would let you have some tighter results on the camo. That's the brush Saltydog used for all his models when he was around...

Iwata's are the best. I couldn't live without my hp-bcs anymore!!

OK guys i'm sold I trust your judgement on matters like this For the He 219 that i'll be building for the BOG GB i think i'm gonna need a better A/B to do all those unmasked spots on the uppersurface............

Jules - while I haven't used the fine needle on my 175 I can say with similar sized needles they are two different animals. I still use my 175 on occasion but only for large coverage on something like a big 1/48 kit or 1/32 all in one color, and slowly I am learning to use the Iwata for that too... (It's a different feel to it, if I pulled back the trigger on my 175 this far I'd be pressed to find the kit afterwards for the big lump of paint in the way)

The HP-CR consistently does better at anything else. In fact I was able to touch up the wing root at the join to the fuselage without masking. No overspray, everything a nice even coat. Tweets remark about atomization is true. It really does seem to spray a nicer more even coat.

With the HP-B I think you'll be using two brushes as well. But with a hairline fine line ability I think you'll be producing some amazing squiggle... The only thing I can see is you might be relegated to the realm of enamels for your squiggle as acrylics would have a hard time passing through a .2mm nozzle I would think... Good luck to you though! Where did you order it from? If it was from dixieart and they didn't ship it before the hurricane it might be a week or more before it ships as they just relocated and will be opening again as their area they were in was pretty hard hit by Katrina...
