Well, all the research I've done over the last 6 months convinced me to order one, mostly due to the needle limiter feature.
I ordered the HP-B+, I don't need a large cup so this should do fine for most everything.
Apparently they have better atomisation, and after trying to do squiggles, I no longer think the 'One nozzle/needle for all' thing suits me much.
Tom reckons they are the shiznit, and I trust his judgement.(foolish me...Wink [;)])

QUOTE:
BTW if anyone needs an extension of a couple of weeks to get finished I'm more than happy to extend the end dateThumbs Up [tup]

Now he tells meSigh [sigh]
Ah well.
After 3 goes at using enamels for the squiggle, and wiping it off 3 times, I turned back to the Gunze, and finally got something that resembles squiggle camo.
Mind you, the pressure was 17 psi, and the mix was 70% retarder, 20% thinner, and a splash of colour.
And I'm not joking!!
I am not overly happy with it, but after getting hand cramp so bad I felt like hurling, it will do.
I now know why there are not many squiggle camos in 1/48, it's a big scale thing I reckon.
It's just a mongrel to acheive, and very disheartening to say the least.

But enough 'blah blah', as soon as it dries properly, I'll shoot some Future on, then take a couple of happy snaps.

Tweetster - you ordered the HP-CS, right? I think you will be MORE than happy with it once it gets there... I got the HP-CR (just like the CS but a .5mm needle/nozzle combo instead of the .35mm the CS has) and I can do fine lines like I have never have been able to before! I imagine you'll have no probs getting whatever squiggle out of that thing you want!

I use Vallejo acrylics and haven't had much problem with tip dry at all. Working on the mottle on a FW-190 today and I learned about every 6th or so mottle spot I move the airbrush over to the paper towel and give it a good squirt... about every 12 or so I take a cotton bud with thinner on it and wipe the needle and crown, so far it's working flawless... (took a bit of hit and miss to figure it out... ) the sad thing is I am going to do a Russian front FW-190 and I will paint over all this mottle before it is all done (well a tiny bit will be visible but..... Disapprove [V])

Oh - and for the missus... make you a model room and call it a nursery... tell her the young'n might like to build models one day so you'll move it all in there for when he gets older. Wink [;)] Women have a soft spot for that... If all else fails just tell her you'll just move your modeling stuff out of the way for a bit by sticking it in the spare room as you won't have time for it for awhile. Clown [:o)]

Yeah, I am a little dissappointed about the Iwata taking so long to get here, but thats the price you pay for ordering something from another country.
You never quite know the IQ of those you deal with.

I'll persavere for now. Might work out, might not.
Worse case scenario, I dont finish on time.

It happens to all of us.

Dave Great looking Stang mate, certainly an eye opening scheme and in 1/72 no less, very well doneThumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]I'll update page one with your build.......

Tweets sorry to hear about your troubles, I have been playing around with squiggles on my test board a littlle and i don't envy you thats for sure, I can get a nice fine line but i can't get it on consistently, certanlly not consistent enough to ever try it on a model.....Damn shame that Iwata didn't show up in time, that may have been the ticket to getting done, I've heard good things about the Iwata's.........

Yeah, I use Iwata lube on my needles, great stuff.

Tip dry isn't usually a problem for me, even when mottling, but for this squiggle I need pretty consistent 1mm lines, and I think it's just a tad much for the acrylics to handle.
Have tried high and low air pressures, thinner/paint ratios, retarder, and even poking my toungue out to the left, nothing helpsDisapprove [V].

If I had a gloss acrylic in the right colour it might make a differance, I tend to think the semi gloss and matt paint pigment is just a tad to large and binds too quickly.

It'll happen, just a matter of time.

I have roughly 2 weeks in which to finish this one as we are moving to our new house on the 23rd and the hobby room won't be set up for a few weeks.

SWMBO thinks the hobby room isn't as important as the rest of the house!!Shock [:O]
Talk about having your priorities all mixed upSigh [sigh].

Lol Dave - actually it is a sign I need a new keyboard... I've noticed some letters don't seem to depress sometimes... not enough anyway. But yeah I was getting there today doing a mottle on that FW190 I am trying out... first time..

BTS: nice work on the mustang!!! I like it, definitely different than the run of the mill NMF ones you see so much of!

Dave The 'stang looks great by the way, you'd never know it was 1/72 from the photos.

Frosty The 109 is looking very nice, and the stand is a great touch.

Tweets I'm surprised you're having trouble with Gunze acrylics, I've used them for mottles even on 1/72 scale subjects without issue. Are you using any needle lube, as that helps a lot?

Tanky I'm not sure I could live with the odour of enamels any more, I know the household authorities couldn't. That and the clean up with acrylics is so quick and simple, I don't think I'd ever go back to enamels.

Progress Update

Not a lot really. The 406 goes into the paintshop for Future tomorrow, then decals next week.

Tanky - if you can get your hands on some Vallejo or Color of eagles they are the best I have prayed in acrylics. Very similar to enamels in coverage and drying etc... very little tip dry as well...

Dave that looks fantastic mateApprove [^]
Very nicely doneThumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]

Frosty the jack stand looks good, and the 109 looks alot better without that 'flash' obliterating itThumbs Up [tup]

Well, I tried the squiggle camo on the 129, but Gunze acrylics are NOT the way to go.
Even with a bucket of retarder thrown in I couldn't get rid of the tip dry and it started to look ratCensored [censored].
So took a quick trip to the LHS this morning and bought some Humbrol sand and some white enamel to mix up the right shade.
Maybe the enamels will work better.
Guess I'll find out tonight (crossing fingers)

Okay folks, finally got around to fixing my goof up and putting on the final clear coat. Once again it is Academy's 1/72 P51 North Africa kit. It is a wonderful kit and I recently discovered some Canadian units who flew this bird so will definitely have to do this kit again.

Either way, that 109 looks just fine to me.

Trust me Darren your not the only oneWink [;)]Despite the fact that i learn from other modelers misfortunes i still stuff up, just yesterday i was lightening my IJN grey and testing different shades on my Tamiya Zero(Paint hack) and when i finally decided i had the right shade i painted it on my Has Zero, Only thing is the Has zero was preshaded and the plastic is a lot darker than the Tamiya Zero so the paint was to dark, Anyway i mixed some more paint up and made the same mistake a second time by using the tamiya Zero to test it onDead [xx(]Black Eye [B)]

Sorry to hear you're back at school Tanky, but I don't get why your eyes are wandering. Are we talking some good looking girls in class, are we talking a good looking teacher (Tongue [:P] hmmmm Miss Drake), or are you thinking about super detailing the pit on your latest project.

Btw, all of the above are acceptable answers in my book Thumbs Up [tup]
