Karl That looks great!
Definately 'fringed', especially with that camo scheme.
Will post pics soon of the 129, but the squiggle aint all that and a bag of chips.

Tom The Sabre is a High Planes kit, and now that I have made it doing another isn't a real issue.
Looking back on that build, there are ALOT of ways that I could have made it easier for myself, hence I plan to do another one, cause it really is a sexy version of the Sabre.

Jules close call with the Zero eh.
Don't ya hate that gut feeling when your mind says 'DON'T DO THAT', but your hands simply refuse to listen!

Decals are on and giving it 24 hours before I wash it and apply some post shading with Tamiya smoke.
Flat coat should be on by Wednesday night, so probably take pics then.

Karl - my apologies as I didn't comment on your build when I viewed it earlier. I think it is outstanding and I am awarding it the official "THO9900 Fringe Award" for this build... definitely something different from the usual. And especially with all the hardship you have gone through with, your craftsmanship really shines through!!! I am looking forward to the final pics!!

Looks great Karl, glad to see it didn't meet the flaming death I had proposed. Cool colour scheme! Thumbs Up [tup] the black and white underside will make it even more interesting.

Tom This machine certainly had an interesting life. I'm pretty certain it fought with Group de Chase 1 during the Battle of France, before being transferred to Syria and serving with the Vichy french against the Allies, before being flown to Cairo by A/C Coudray in June 1940 as he escaped to the Free French! It then went on to serve with the embyonic FF air force throughout 1940. What happened to it after I don't know, though I beleive Coudray was killed over Tobruk in 1941, possibly flying a Hurricane.

Any enough of the history, this is what the top side looks likes after this afternoon's tidy up:

The rudder needs a coat RAF dark green, as well as a patch of the same on the fuselage side to cover the French markings.

And this is the underside...

..which needs both a coat of blue over the repaired patch, and black and white applied to alternate wings.

I'm glad you mentioned the Sabre Jules, which company made the sabre you built Tweets? I've been getting an urge to do both a Venezuelan and Colombian Sabre but remember you had some fits with the kit or the conversion. I'm looking at the Hasegawa kit as I tend to trust their reliability more than Academy.

Karl - great! looking forward to finally seeing this one!!! I've actually flown into Haifa airport once, then years later on another deployment we flew out of it, so it kinda got me interested you were building one that was based there.

Tweets - I have the same type luck.... for me it is when I am at my most cautious, is when I do something like put it in what I think a safe place and then I watch it tip the balance and fall to the floor.. Disapprove [V] Good to hear yours came out of it relatively unscathed!

Jules - I am bad about that too... putting the box of parts of the one I am working on, on top of another box I am about to start, then put the unfinished model in top of the first box... needless to say I have little regard for Sir Isaac Newton and his so called "theories" Wink [;)]

Bob The 'stang has turned out great. Looks really good in the RAF camo.

Rick That pit is looking excellent.

Sean Post some picks of the 129, want to see that squiggle!

Progress Update

Wings now firmly secured to the rest of the plane with CA. Luckily the bulk of the damage was to the rear underfuselage joint, which I've filled with CA and sanded out.

There are a few little chips here and there, luckily most of them are along panel lines, so I'll probably just disguise them with a little post shading and some paint chipping.

Lucky you didn't break it Sean, Remember the SabreShock [:O]But i think it must happen to us all, the other day i was working on the Zero and i placed it on the box but the box was half hanging off my U-Boat box and when i put the Zero on it the bloody thing overbalanced and the Zero slid into the side of my radio, only chipped the paint in one spot but still it makes the heart jump into the mouth........

Strange you should mention that Jules
About an hour ago I was applying the Future, and rolled her around so I could Future the fuselage stripe.
It promptly slipped from my fingers, caught the side of the bench, and landed in my lap.

After a bit of pucker, It is curing now.
Thanks to our weather here I'll be able to decal tonight, and wash tomorrow night.
Will take pics after the flat coat, or after my batteries charge, which ever comes first.

bob Nice Stang!!!
I still haven't learned to attach the canopy till after painting also, but a little bit of CA fixes the problem.

My 129 is currently getting some touch up work via a damp flat brush to remove 'odd' spots for the squiggle.
After that it will be Futured, and then decalled, the washed, flatted and FINISHED!!!!!
Unless something goes horribly wrong of course.

Thanks all for the kind comments. Still a learning process-future builds will have the canopy attached to the fuselage prior to painting-will eliminate the nasty gaps..or at least make them easier to address.

This was a fun GB-interesting subject-left a lot of room for choices of planes & armor. Would like to see it 'repeat' again sometime in the near future. However, it's time to get prepared for the Battle for Germany.....

Bob - you plane building little demon, you!!! I just got commenting on your Mart... M-M-Martl... Wildcat over in the Midway build! This looks equally good! Nice job on the shading and weathering.

Now I forgive you for painting that beautiful little plane blue over there in the Midway build... you built something somewhat fringe here!

BTW are you keeping the props off the model when you finishQuestion [?]

Jules:
thanx 4 the kind comments !
i was thinking about leaving the prop blades & spinner off,
but i need 2 find a good ref pic of a 109F w/o those parts
attached so i will know what that part of the a/c looks like..
also what the prop looks like when it comes off, does it come off
in one piece or blades out, then hub ?
w/ the time extension, i mite try 2 make a small dio of the a/c
being serviced by the ground crew...

Karl:
sorry 2 hear about ur mishap...
good luck w/ the holy water & incense, but we may have 2 call in
Van Helsing if that doesn't work !

bobbaily:
very nice job on the stang !
i had 2 doublecheck ur project, 4 a quick second there i thought
i was looking at a clipped wing spitfire, LOL !
shows u what i know... Wink [;)]

Nicely done Bob Thumbs Up [tup]. It looks great in those RAF colours, might have to try one with some Canadian markings that I've found. Thanks for the look.

Well, its done...kinda...could still use some weathering & the radio wire run (there's a spool of invisable thread in the supply bin). Canopy was a bear-lesson learned-will attach said canopy prior to painting the entire plane.

Overall, the Accurate Miniatures F-6A is a good kit-great interior detail, interesting subject. Had some problems with fit though (could have been user error).

Rick Nice work as always, looking forward to more pics.

Bob I'm sure you'll find "something" to do between builds Wink [;)] and as for hanging out... how the heck do you think the BOG GB has gotten up to 625 posts already and the build doesn't even start for another 2 1/2 months. Shock [:O]

Karl Forgot about the boat incident! Blush [:I] I was in solitary at the time it happened.

...but that means six weeks with no place to hang out....Wink [;)]

Actually, should have the F-6A finished this weekend with pictures posted. Now trying to decide if I can get that Marder III setting on the shelf of my LHS purchased and assembled in North Africian camo scheme by Oct. 15th......

I'm swinging past church on the way home tonight, I'm going to try airbrushing on a coat of holy water, followed by an infusion of incence!

Dave Kremps says I'm not allowed flammable substances any more, not after that incident with the boat house!

Tanky Euthanasia might be more like it!

Tom I think Hobbcr@p used teflon coated plastic on this kit, because nothing sems to hold it together, not even CA!

Jules You might have a point there! I'm going to finish this build if it kills me, which at this rate is a distinct possibility! What's more annoying is I've got a Hasa 109G10 part started, which I really want to get on with, as well as Italeri's CR 42 which I'm itching to start. I don't want to get stuck into either with this still on the bench, along with it's twisted karma!

Karl - ouch!!! I had that happen recently, I was barely into sanding the seam and POP!!! I found the Ambroids wasn't penetrating enough... so I got smart and MADE myself start using the capillary glue pen as to get the glue INTO the seam... But yours is a bummer that far into it!!!

And I agree with Tanky... an exorcism might do it some good!! if nothing else it would liven things up on the board here! We could post pics and all... (imagining aircraft spinning in mid air spewing Squadron green putty from its exhausts)

Rick - haven't seen ya in awhile! I had the sneaking suspicion your batteries went dead and you were waiting until they charged before you showed your face again! Wink [;)] That cockpit is looking great!!!

Finally got back to the Henschel Hs129B-1. Probably won't finish this build by the end date, but at least I did finish the Bf-109E. Here's the pit, strictly OOTB except for the PE seat belts. Not much to see, but the real aircraft was pretty simple.

Karl Sorry to hear that. Maybe set a butane lighter and a pan of alcohol next to it. Maybe it will get the message and behave. (If not, you know what to doEvil [}:)])

Had a seam split open on me last night while sanding a B-17 I'm working on. Just barely started the sanding though so no biggy. Just but me back a day.
