Dave Great work on the P51, especially in 1/72.

I know what you mean abour Academy decals, I did their Komet a couple of years back, and they were like leather. This was before I had discovered the wonder of Gunze decal setting solution!

I can thoroughly recommend gloss white as a primer Wink [;)]

I'll probably end up going with a slightly simpler camo scheme for this build, same aircraft just a few weeks earlier, as I'm conscious that the clock is running on this GB. It'll now look more like my sig pic.

Dave - looks fabulous!!! nice smooth paint and looks like the decals snuggled right in!

Karl - no rush!!! Kremps understand if you're a little late, what with you building all those playhouses for her day care center she is starting up! Wink [;)] (now THAT's a scary thought!!)

Tom This is one build I want to see the back of! The earlier colour scheme is a straight Armee de'l Air, and arguably much prettier than the scheme I was going to go with.

It doesn't help I've now got the Hasa 109G10 sitting their waiting to be built!

well, a few weeks short of when I said I'd have them, but here they are. Italeri 1/35 demag sdkfz 10/4 w/ flak 30. Deffinetly not a fun kit to build, to say the least.
The only things I added were the air recognition flag, rolled up tarps and camo netting, and tamiya jerrycans.

Alll I can say is WOW!!!! Shock [:O] Nice build John and congrats on the award as well. The weathering on the paint is superb. I would love to know what technique you used to get that nice scratched up paint look.

Me Three!! Big Smile [:D]

Outstanding work and I really like the area around the fenders where the paint scraped off and it shows rust, you did the same thing around the gun mount...

AWESOME!!! and congrats on the award, you deserve it!

wow, thanks guys!
the wear was done by first painting the vehicle panzer grey (as they arrived in africa) then I used the salt technique (thank you swanny!) and for the larger stuff I used rubber cement. Painted Dark yellow, and removed the salt and rubber cement. While removeing the salt with a toothpick I scratched the surface of the yellow paint. It looked like a perfect scratch, so i made some more, and eventually got WAY over carried and had a scratch everywhere on the vehicle ohwell, live and learn.
The rust was just a (i think) burnt sienna wash that wasnt completely removed.

thanks again guys.

hmmm.. you've given me a diabolical plan in the making John... I want to try the salt technique with paint, then the in same rough area with future over salt... I WANT the burnt sienna to stick to the paint like on those fenders... would be a nice contrast and *maybe* make some realistic weathering...

Anyways, got the 129 in the paint shop!
Waiting for the under belly to dry, then onto the top base coat, ass'y, then the squiggle camo!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sean, I know kinda know what you mean. This was my first non-hobbytown or really small contest. It was pretty big, with nice awards a raffle prizesCool [8D]

Tom, iyou want the burnt sienna to stick, apply it as you would a wash, then, just leave off the q-tip part and seal it with a flat coat.

Thanks John, I am also thinking of leaving off the future so it sticks to the paint well.. (just on that one spot, maybe liquid masking like you said) I have a Canadian Quad Tractor with 25 pounder I want to build one day soon and your scheme would go nicely with it...

Ours isn't small by any means, but I can't figure out where all the competition isConfused [%-)]

Our largest newsagent gets Tamiya (can I type that hereEvil [}:)]) and Finescale magazine, and a few other modeling mags in every month.
They all sell inside the first week, and if your not on the ball you miss out.

But for some stupid reason there is very little competition.

I am very confused.

Karl - I did think I saw a "desert pink" at the LHS the other day in the paint section.... maybe it's a side to modeling we were unaware of? Wink [;)]

Good news guys!!!!

I just had a long chat on the phone with Jules and he is alive and well but still suffering from severe computer problems. To add to his problems some Censored [censored] head stole the bike that he uses for his work forcing him to buy a replacement and in the process soaking up a load of his spare cash.

He said to say a big hi to all the usual suspects and was desperate to know what Kremps has been up to.

He hopes to get to a working computer on Sunday night and read through some of the 300 odd new posts in this build and then add some new ones of his own.

Cheers
Darren

Sorry to hear about Jules' Bike, but glad to hear he's still with us. Was beginning to wonder if he had bailed out on us.

i started looking at the kit's potential & well... (sigh)

It seemed somehow apt.
