                        Jules I remember my first ab was a Badger 250 that was about $20 as well. I agree you don't need to spend mega bucks to get a reasonable results.

                        Nah Tweets i havn't shunned the BMF method, i still use it on easy canopies like the Wildcat or Hellcat but for models like the Zero or Avenger AM masks make it that much easier for a lazy bugger like meThumbs Up [tup]

                        Ok, not really much in the way of a progress shot, but here are a couple of pics of the 129 with the RLM 79 I made up.
                        Doesn't appear to be to far from the real shade.


                        Now all I have to do is apply the squiggle camo.................................freehand.
                        I was trying to think of a way to make a masking template, but I can't see it happening.
                        Squiggles are far to complex to mask on something this size, and seeing as my Iwata won't be here for a while, looks like the Omni gets the honours.
                        Should be funSmile [:)]

                        Is it glued in place, or is it just sitting there for the pic??

                        Either way, that 109 looks just fine to me.

                        Flashes on cameras have a tendancy to 'wash' out the picture and make every little detail stand out something fierce.

                        Tom Hope your relatives are OK, and able to at least salvage somthing from what's left of New Orleans.

                        Looking at the news footage, I just can't beleive the level of devastation and suffering. It looks more like an aid agency from Africa, not the US.

                        ..and..



                        There's still work to be done, the two white patches either side of the wing roots need a coat of dark grey, as they are wing walks, and I need to sort out a few areas of overspray here and there. Oh.....and the bit of green I forgot in front of the tail plane!!!

                        I also had a play with some post shading techniques on my 190D paint mule. Probably the only place you can see Armee De L'Air camo on top, with Hellenic airforce camo on the underside of a Focke Wulf.!!!

                        Thanks Karl - looks like their house didn't get hit... no flooding or wind damage other than a few shingles... they found out they can sneak back in and get their stuff so they left tonight so immediately I hit the P-26 for my Pearl Harbor build... They'll be back Mon or so, so I will have to curtail the modeling then...

                        The camo looks good... in fact I believe my grandmother had a sofa once that had that same design on the upholstery.. Wink [;)] and wrong thread? we 'usual suspects' don't NEED a thread!!!

                        Tom Good to hear your relatives property survived pretty much intact. Sounds like they have been extremely lucky.

                        You have to love the Armee de l'Air camo, it has such an element on chintz to it! I'm not sure about the green, I matched it to an FS ref on the IPMS Stockholm site, but it still looks too light, or is it that the grey is too dark? Who cares, it's almost finished that's the main thing.

                        As for the wrong thread, it is precisely because of the 'Usual Suspects' that I get confused. But then if I didn't get confused from time to time, I wouldn't be at Happy Acres now would I.

                        Rick I had considered masking the camo, but decided that I just couldn't be bothered. That andI didn't import the Badger 100 from the US for nothing! The worse thing about the camo has been the Aeromaster guide, which was little short of useless.

                        Today should be tidy up day, sorting out all those little areas I missed, or oversprayed.

                        Jules I posted a build update on the MS406 in the Battle for Germany GB thread like a muppet!

                        I was looking at a build article on a Tamiya D520 over on Hypersnail the other day. Nice looking kit, way better than this heap. I do rather like those fetching red and yellow stripes on the Vichy machines, especially the Dewoitines and the Bloch 152s.

                        Karl-Great work on the paint. I wouldn't even attempt that in my dreams!

                        Finally did some work today-masked the canopy on the F-6A Mustang...again. This time I used the Eduard masks as templates and used some BMF and some old address labels (actually bar code tags from work that were used for testing some data.) Gonna break out the airbrush tomorrow and try to duplicate the paint mix. Hopefully will post some good news later in the week. Either that or outsource the canopy!

                        Well after a break of the best part of a month away from the bench, I took the plunge and dived back in yesterday. I finished of most of the assembly of the Kubel in prep for a coat of future tonight or tomorrow.

                        Tom, I'm glad to hear that you and yours are all OK, I hope they did not loose too much. I figured you must be busy because of Katrina in some way.

                        Sean, good luck and post some progress pics as you go. Also, I'm using BMF masking for the first time ever on my 109 and it's turning out really well. Thanks for the tip.

                        Karl, she looks great Thumbs Up [tup] and that's got to be one of the most unusual camo schemes I have ever seen.
