                        Tanky I feel like a bit of a traitor but yeah I'm a member of that forum (same user ID btw). I find their forum a little lacking and a little slow, however their how to articles are excellent.

                        Bob The French camo isn't as scary as it looks. I use a Badger 100SG with fine head, and it makes spraying freehand fairly easy.

                        Darson The French camo is certainly different, probably why it appealed to me.

                        Progress Update

                        Tidied up all the overspray and missed bits yesterday and left to harden over night. The paints for this build are predominantly gloss, and therefore seem to take an age to dry fully. I found that out when I removed the masking from the white tail area, glue marks from the Tamiya tape all over my lovely gloss white!Banged Head [banghead]. The matt RLM 65 undersides on the otherhand are unmarked by the tape!

                        I've just sanded it smooth, and it'll need another coat of paint later today, along with the wing walks, which will also need careful masking.

                        Karl Sounds like your having fun with the tape, I used to get glue marks on my kits and it just doesn't come off, these days i give every colour i paint a coat of futrure and let it dry for at least 24 hours just to avoid that residue........

                        BTW just one more post and you hit 2000 posts.................Just do it.............

                        Jules The white had about 3 days drying time, same as the RLM 65. I read somewhere a while back that gloss coats should be left for a week before undertaking any extra work. Think I'll bare that in mind in future.

                        As post 2000, that's over on the BFGGB thread.

                        Trust me Darren your not the only oneWink [;)]Despite the fact that i learn from other modelers misfortunes i still stuff up, just yesterday i was lightening my IJN grey and testing different shades on my Tamiya Zero(Paint hack) and when i finally decided i had the right shade i painted it on my Has Zero, Only thing is the Has zero was preshaded and the plastic is a lot darker than the Tamiya Zero so the paint was to dark, Anyway i mixed some more paint up and made the same mistake a second time by using the tamiya Zero to test it onDead [xx(]Black Eye [B)]

                        Okay folks, finally got around to fixing my goof up and putting on the final clear coat. Once again it is Academy's 1/72 P51 North Africa kit. It is a wonderful kit and I recently discovered some Canadian units who flew this bird so will definitely have to do this kit again.

                        Frosty the jack stand looks good, and the 109 looks alot better without that 'flash' obliterating itThumbs Up [tup]

                        Well, I tried the squiggle camo on the 129, but Gunze acrylics are NOT the way to go.
                        Even with a bucket of retarder thrown in I couldn't get rid of the tip dry and it started to look ratCensored [censored].
                        So took a quick trip to the LHS this morning and bought some Humbrol sand and some white enamel to mix up the right shade.
                        Maybe the enamels will work better.
                        Guess I'll find out tonight (crossing fingers)

                        Tweets - I'm somewhat in the same boat... I am painting a FW190 right now and the mottle is going ok but I think I am going to get out the MM enamels for the rest of it. Since this is my first shot at mottling I wanna try and get it right. I haven't had a LOT of problems with tip dry but just don't want to chance it! The guy at the LHS that turned me on to Vallejo does it in 1/72 with no probs but I am not up to his level yet. I wanna learn how to do it before I try it with acrylics!

                        That's what he says. Everyone with half a brain knows enamels are the superior race!! The are entitled to lebensraum in all people's homes. Dead [xx(]Whoops. Hehe. Clown [:o)][:0] No but seriously, the only acrylics i can even come close to using with some success are tamiya and gunce. Nothing else except enamels works for me.

                        Tanky - if you can get your hands on some Vallejo or Color of eagles they are the best I have prayed in acrylics. Very similar to enamels in coverage and drying etc... very little tip dry as well...

                        Dave The 'stang looks great by the way, you'd never know it was 1/72 from the photos.

                        Frosty The 109 is looking very nice, and the stand is a great touch.

                        Tweets I'm surprised you're having trouble with Gunze acrylics, I've used them for mottles even on 1/72 scale subjects without issue. Are you using any needle lube, as that helps a lot?

                        Tanky I'm not sure I could live with the odour of enamels any more, I know the household authorities couldn't. That and the clean up with acrylics is so quick and simple, I don't think I'd ever go back to enamels.

                        Not a lot really. The 406 goes into the paintshop for Future tomorrow, then decals next week.
