Lucky you didn't break it Sean, Remember the SabreShock [:O]But i think it must happen to us all, the other day i was working on the Zero and i placed it on the box but the box was half hanging off my U-Boat box and when i put the Zero on it the bloody thing overbalanced and the Zero slid into the side of my radio, only chipped the paint in one spot but still it makes the heart jump into the mouth........

Bob The 'stang has turned out great. Looks really good in the RAF camo.

Rick That pit is looking excellent.

Sean Post some picks of the 129, want to see that squiggle!

Progress Update

Wings now firmly secured to the rest of the plane with CA. Luckily the bulk of the damage was to the rear underfuselage joint, which I've filled with CA and sanded out.

There are a few little chips here and there, luckily most of them are along panel lines, so I'll probably just disguise them with a little post shading and some paint chipping.

I'm glad you mentioned the Sabre Jules, which company made the sabre you built Tweets? I've been getting an urge to do both a Venezuelan and Colombian Sabre but remember you had some fits with the kit or the conversion. I'm looking at the Hasegawa kit as I tend to trust their reliability more than Academy.

Karl - great! looking forward to finally seeing this one!!! I've actually flown into Haifa airport once, then years later on another deployment we flew out of it, so it kinda got me interested you were building one that was based there.

Tweets - I have the same type luck.... for me it is when I am at my most cautious, is when I do something like put it in what I think a safe place and then I watch it tip the balance and fall to the floor.. Disapprove [V] Good to hear yours came out of it relatively unscathed!

Jules - I am bad about that too... putting the box of parts of the one I am working on, on top of another box I am about to start, then put the unfinished model in top of the first box... needless to say I have little regard for Sir Isaac Newton and his so called "theories" Wink [;)]

Tom This machine certainly had an interesting life. I'm pretty certain it fought with Group de Chase 1 during the Battle of France, before being transferred to Syria and serving with the Vichy french against the Allies, before being flown to Cairo by A/C Coudray in June 1940 as he escaped to the Free French! It then went on to serve with the embyonic FF air force throughout 1940. What happened to it after I don't know, though I beleive Coudray was killed over Tobruk in 1941, possibly flying a Hurricane.

Any enough of the history, this is what the top side looks likes after this afternoon's tidy up:

The rudder needs a coat RAF dark green, as well as a patch of the same on the fuselage side to cover the French markings.

And this is the underside...

..which needs both a coat of blue over the repaired patch, and black and white applied to alternate wings.

Looks great Karl, glad to see it didn't meet the flaming death I had proposed. Cool colour scheme! Thumbs Up [tup] the black and white underside will make it even more interesting.

Karl - my apologies as I didn't comment on your build when I viewed it earlier. I think it is outstanding and I am awarding it the official "THO9900 Fringe Award" for this build... definitely something different from the usual. And especially with all the hardship you have gone through with, your craftsmanship really shines through!!! I am looking forward to the final pics!!

Karl That looks great!
Definately 'fringed', especially with that camo scheme.
Will post pics soon of the 129, but the squiggle aint all that and a bag of chips.

Tom The Sabre is a High Planes kit, and now that I have made it doing another isn't a real issue.
Looking back on that build, there are ALOT of ways that I could have made it easier for myself, hence I plan to do another one, cause it really is a sexy version of the Sabre.

Jules close call with the Zero eh.
Don't ya hate that gut feeling when your mind says 'DON'T DO THAT', but your hands simply refuse to listen!

Decals are on and giving it 24 hours before I wash it and apply some post shading with Tamiya smoke.
Flat coat should be on by Wednesday night, so probably take pics then.

Rick I hope so!

Dave It'll end up looking like the b@stard offspring of a Dewoitine and Hurricane!

Tom I learnt 'Art de la Fringe' from the expert!Wink [;)] I think the 'hardship' has been mostly self inflicted, a little bit more thought here and there, like not buying the kit in the first place, would have helped.

Sean Don't sell yourself short, I'm sure the squiggle will look stunning.

I'm off to apply the black & white now, the paint that is, not the whisky.

Karl

Edit; Can't spell.

Jules - the only practical one is the 1/24 Trumpeter... Eastern Express makes it in 1/72, but I have heard some bad things about the Eastern Euro companies... maybe you can get some better input on that company from someone else... pity that don't have that one in 1/48 I wouldnt mind doing one myself... Maybe someone else knows of another manufacturer in 1/48

I'm pretty sure sure there's a conversion kit out there for the Tamiya 1/48 Spit. Resin floats and wheel bay plugs if memory serves me.

Yeah 1/24 is a little big for my tastes and 1/72 too small, But a resin conversion of the Tamiya Spit has me thinking, mostly about what Spit parts are used cause the 2 A/C look nothing alike despite the family connection.....

How would you convert a Spitfire into thisQuestion [?] The conversion must give you new fues halves and wings or it just wouldn't work......

Jules I think Tom and myself are getting this mixed up with the Spitfire float plane, which is what Trumpeter make, and what I was waffling on about.

Not sure who makes a kit in anything other than 1/72 though.

yeah I think I was confused Jules... I reread and saw you put seaplane, I guess I insterted spitfire in by myself... hmmm dunno if they have that one... it would be a shame not to, as that was the craft that ultimately led to the spitfire becoming what it did...

How do you typo 'BUMP'?Wink [;)]

Spayed the black and white on the underside of the wings on Sunday, now need to touch in the blue around the wing to fuselage seam this weekend, followed by a coat of Future for the last decal, a roundel on the port wing. I might just get this done by the 12th October at this rate.

Hasn't helped I've been working on a warm-up build to a warm-up build for the BfG GB!

thnaks guys... looks like the worst of the wind will be passing us by but it will still be pretty high (80 mph or so) hopefully the trees all fall the right direction and miss my house! we're a bit nervous to say the least, but as far as flooding we have no real worries, we sit 38 feet above sea level and they almost drained the entire lake today (it's dammed) in preperation for this...

will post again soon!!!!

Jeez Tom 80 Mph is a hell of a wind, maybe you should get the hell out of there before it hits, If not tape up your windows and get rid of all the loose stuff around your yard and most importantly keep your bloody head down and stay safe.......
