Tony Great to see you're making progress on that Wildcat.

Guys Glad you like the MS406, must admit even I'm surprised at the way it's turning out!Shock [:O]

Karl that MS406 is a real eye catcher and should make a really nice addition to your collection, congratulations.

Tony I'm glad to hear everything is working out on your build and I know that feeling, I've got it myself at the moment, everything is going too well. A disaster has to be imminent.

:::Progress Update:::
Ok after my embarrassing little incident with the airbrush I put the 109 back in the paint shop tonight and finished off the camo. Now I'll let it cure for at least 24 hours before masking it for the white band around the fuselage near the tail.

Nice Morane Karl.

Here's my little Wildcat, suffers a bit by comparison at this point, very grey and bland. However, it'll improve from here !Smile [:)]

nighty night time now.
Seeya !

I'm just taking it one GB at a time.

Wow! The ms406 looks great! So does the 109! The wildcat looks like ti is coming along well also.

I haven't been doing much modeling lately, because if you took all the homework I had and put it on one of those scales, it would find equilibrium if you put kremps on the other side... Wink [;)]

Sean, Nice Hs129, Darren looking good with the bf109, Tony, nice looking Martlett and Karl, stunning MS406! I love the weathering. Keep it up guys, I only pop in to this forum every once in a while to see what I am missing. Thinking now, I could have done a beaufighter for this one, A Canadian night fighter Ace (Carl 'moose' Fumerton I believe was with RAF 89sqdn ) flew on malta so I could have done his, oh well. Next time.

Thanks for the kind words guys. Even though the camo was a real hand cramper, it was a lot of fun to do. I've changed plans a tad and tonight I'm going to mist on some very highly thinned tan on the upper surfaces to blend in the RLM 80 and simulate a little bleaching.

Cheers

Thanks for all the encouragement guys, I don't think I would have bothered finishing the MS406 if it hadn't been part of this GB.

DarrenI'm at work so can't see your pics, just red crosses, damnable anti-streaming software, look forward to seeing them when I get home. I know posting from work again! It's all part of my effort to improve my work life balanceWink [;)]

Darren - Tony - looking good! can't wait to see the finished products!!!

Karl - my boss got tired of me asking her to download this or that piece of software so she finally got me a bypass through the system... now I can see all the build pics I want!!! It was so bad I couldn't even go to novell.com to download a patch at one point because it was blocked on that particular page... damn outsourcing of firewall management!!! I guess they didn't like my 500MB to 1GB downloads I was doing weekly or more! Wink [;)] And what's worse probably had no idea what I was downloading!

Karl don't those security Nazis drive you nuts? At least at my work I can see the pics on the forum and post, I can't do much else mind you but at least I can do that.

Tony looking good with the Wildcat, I'm looking forward to some more pics.

Darren The camo on the 109 is perfect. Very cool.

Not being able to view build pics at work is a nuisance, as I often don't get online for a couple of days at a time, and therefore haven't clue what everyone is talking about.

Tom Unfortunately part of my job is ensuring the rest of our IT community don't get admin, and therefore download rights! Well not without a change request and acceptance of all possible risk signed off by their line manager's, line manager's, line manager!

I do enjoy my job! Evil [}:)]

Karl - yeah I hear you and understand, there's IT people at work with I am sure questionable download habits... I've often suspected before the current firewall was implemented that one guy was running a gaming server from work...

Problem was, that as the Novell server manager, I was unable to even download patches and such... it took a lot of "can you download this, sorry but your internet will be nonexistant until all 1GB downloads" until my boss conceded and got it for me... Like right now I left my machine at work downloading the complete Novell 6.5 Suite and hope it's done when I go in tomorrow... it's 5 CD's worth of data...

And besides... it's nice to see the pretty pics here as well while I wait for that stuff to download! Wink [;)]

Jules - you can get a cellular modem for it for only about $300 US, and service is only about $75 US a month... what a bargain!!! hmmm... strapping a sattelite to your back just doesan't seem comfortable... nevermind....

Hope to get something done on the F3F today.. I know it's a different build but just rambling here in the morning with nothing much to talk about because I am not awake yet... so far the kit (AccMin) is NICE!!! even comes with the PE rigging and wiring harness, also it has enough decals to do ANY F3F ever built! Including unit insignia....

Tom it's 12:40am here (on a school night too) so don’t worry too much about the time. Tell me is the F3F you are doing going to be in NMF or cam? I checked out some reviews on this kit and it looks great, what your opinion?

Karl That camo looks really bizarre, and yet so cool!
Darren Great job on the 109. Did you use the .35 on the Iwata for the mottle??
Tony Looks good in the grey scheme, hanging to see it all camo'd up!

The Wildcat has the wash done, and the decals on. Relatively straightforward decalling job actually. I'll try t ohold off on the pics untils its done now, and if everything goes really well, it will coincide with my 100th post !
Cheers

Darren - I'm doing it in the pre-war NMF with insignia yellow upper wing... not sure what markings I will use on it as I have no reference on what sqd of F3F's were at Pearl on Dec 7th, 1941. I know they were using them as fglight trainers but have no pics of one done up like that either so I am going to wing it I guess.

The kit is definitely not as complex as the SBD, only 4 or 5 smaller trees of parts. But the detail on them is still exquisite... it comes with PE for the engine wiring, a few interior bits, air intake grill and the wing rigging.

I recommend checking it out at http://www.accurate-miniatures.com/builds/f3f-1/f3fbuild.shtml It's an online build and you can get a feel for the aircraft there...

Tony - looking forward to pics!!!

Tom, I've built a couple of the AM F3F's. The upper wing was Chrome Yellow, a slightly darker yellow than Insignia Yellow, and the fuselage was painted with silver lacquer. The only tricky part of the build is installing the landing gear. Read the instructions carefully.

yeah Rick.. I must've typed that by mistake.. glad for the heads up on the landing gear... I noticed they put special attention to mounting them on that online build so figured it would be a little more difficult in that area once I get there...

No modeling at least till Sun. Going to the Beaumont, Port Arthur area that was hit hardest by the hurricane and help my dad move the fridge out to the road and any cleanup that needs to be done... then Sun I might be going to my sisters house to bring some food to her because nothing is open there yet...

I'm going to miss the 50% off sale at HL it looks like!!! Sad [:(]

Tom, evidently someone at Hobby Lobby read of your plight and scheduled another 50% sale (no coupon required) for this week. Hope you can take advantage of this one.Wink [;)]

Dave - for sure!!!

Bob - I was thrilled when I saw that... hopefully they will have that Pfiel trainer still in stock that was waiting to be priced last time I was there... something different at least! PLUS for those wanting to sink their teeth into something like an Iwata, they are also redoing the 40% off coupon off anything in the store! I got one so unless they start carrying the HP-CS the coupon won't do me any good...

Tweets - doesn't the BS have the .2mm needle/nozzle? If so I can't use it as I use 99% acrylic and it wouldn't like that combo at all! I imagine for you and your squiggle that would be right up your alley!

Wait..... did a certain package make it your way? is that what you're trying to say? I can't wait to see what you can do with THAT!!!

Actually Tom the BS comes with a .35 needle, I ordered that just the other day 'cause after ALOT more research on the BP which I already have on order I decided that the .2mm needle while great for squiggle camo, wasn't going to cut it with the acrylics unless I made them into dirty thinners and went over everything twice!!
Not bl***y likely!!!

So when the BP gets here I'll send it back and get my cash back.

With the BS I also ordered the Preset handle with cut away and a crown cap, so it should go just fine for the next bunch of squiggle I plan to do.

Just kinda figured that a 40% voucher and a BS wouldbe a sweet way to go.

Sean congratulation on your new a/b, I'm sure you will love it Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]. You'll have to let me know what you think of the pre-set handle as it always one of those "I'll get it one day" accessories that I've always managed to do without.
My research went down the exact same path as yours, the .2mm is really made for inks and dyes, not the sorts of pigments we use.
Oh and to answer your question from earlier, one wing on the 109 was done with the .5mm needle/nozzle (a real challenge) and the rest was done with the .35 which was a piece of cake.
