Great looking Panther Bob!!! Your right about being able to take armor to a whole other level. I like the nice clean look of yours though. Looks like it means business!

The Panther is done....at least as far as I'm concerned.  It seems that armour can be taken to the nth degree, if one wants, with various levels of detailing & weathering.

Thanks all for the encouraging words, advice & information along the line.  As always, it's been fun hanging out with you guys.

Tanky, you have a judge’s eye.  When I was clear coating it got a little heavy in that area.  Mostly because I was being my usual last self and tried to cover a small problem, hoping a little heavy coat would make a small ridge-like blemish less noticeable.  It unfortunately made the rivet more shallow and it would not take the wash as dark as the other side.  This, I am sure, is one of the items that kept the model from placing at the contest.

There is a thread going on about the different judging styles here and overseas.  I can’t talk about what goes on overseas but someone makes a point about the lack of volunteers for judging.  The best thing I did was get some instructions and practice judging and this was my 1st year as a judge.  The fact that I did not win anything did not bother me at all since now that I see what happens... the other models were far and away better.  On the drive home I picked my model apart, as the judges did and there is plenty wrong that the camera does not show.  If you want to improve your modeling… judge a contest.  You will look at everything you do much differently.

Darren, I forgot that your photobucket thing is not being used.  What ever, it doesn't matter to me.  I was just perusing the front page and I didn't realized just how many are MIA.  It seems the usual suspects are the only ones completing builds...Evil [}:)]

Marc, I have a question for you. When I saw your stupendous Dora (The 1/24 one) I noticed the riveting was heavier and more pronounced on one wing than the other. Is there a reason for that? (I'm not nit picking or anything,m I hope, I'm just curious.Smile [:)])

Nice one Marc.

I've just totted up my builds since returning to the hobby 3 years ago, and it's at least 18 builds, not all finished!

And I've only just stopped putting the wings on upside down!Wink [;)]

Tom, I thought the finger prints were an anti theft device!

Now doesn't this leave me feeling a bit inadequate after seeing that build again????  Disapprove [V]

But way to go Marc!  I had no idea this was only number 10!!  I'm about on #12 since my return, and still have to be careful not to leave cement fingerprints on the canopy still!  Laugh [(-D]

JB I've updated you on page 1 as complete, thanks for the reminder.  As for the Photobucket page, I found a while ago that it had zero hits on it so I hadn't bothered with any future updates, but if you want you build(s) on there I'll put them on tonight.

Guys, thanks for all the positive comments on the He 162.

Scott, the 162 makes an ideal OOB build. Fit is excellent, and there are no difficult areas at all.

Progress Update

Not a lot.

New head assembly for the 100 turned up last night so I'll be in a position to finish the 162 this weekend, what with it being a long weekend and all.

Darren - Actually if I get the P-47 for the P-47 and Latin American GB done soon I might have another trick up my sleeve... Wink [;)]  I'm not going to commit to it yet because this P-47 is slow going, I'm being a perfectionist on it as I am giving it to an 8th grade class and they will tear it to shreds if there is a visible flaw haha..

Looks like activity on this thread is starting to slow down a tad now which is to be expected as we creep towards the end of the build.

But there are still a few kits out there that are just about finished, so we are not quite done yet.

Cheers

Scott, don't know if you've had a chance to look at your 162 yet, but it really is a great kit. The extra size of1/32 really works well with the 162, and probably with the 163 as well, due to the fact it was so small in reality.

Karl

Hey Karl,

I opened up my 162 last night and you're right, it's a very nice kit!  I'm looking forward to building it.  I really like the way yours is turning out, you're doing a fantastic job!  I'm half tempted to do the 162 for the First Jets GB instead of my 262 (would like to use some AM seatbelts for the 262, and the Jets build is OOB).  Is this HE 162 kit good to go straight out of the box?

Belive it or not, I've actually got some progress to report on my Ta-152. Got the cockpit sprayed, washed and dry-brushed. I've glued the wing top-halves to their respective fuselage halves (I've always found this the best way to go about building the Dragon 190's). I've also started putting the engine together, it's a very impressive engine too for an injection moulded kit.

BTW, I've ordered myself a new airbrush. Decided on the Iwata HP-CH. Should arrive just in time to try it on my Ta-152's camo and mottle. Can't wait.......

Grrrrrrr...... speak these words and a Red Star crested, elegant, flying Flanker will appear before your very eyes.

Admittedly it took me a while to get this done and post pics, and now I'm doing it in the wrong GB... lol. But i'll post in  the Red Star GB also.

Nice work Karl!!

I started work on my project. I'm not saying what it is though. I want it to stay a surprise... (It's not what's on the list on pg. 1)

Chris, congrats on the 500th post.Party [party]

Bob, great progress on the Panther, looking forward to seeing finished pics.

Progress Update

Was hoping to have the Heinkel finished today, but I managed to break my Badger 100 Sad [:(] yesterday, which meant trying to use the Omni for the detail work. The Omni is good, but I get my best results with the 100, and ended up making a fair few cockups with the Omni. Most have now been made good, once I'd got my eye in with the Omni, but some of it will require the 100 for me to be really happy with the results.

Anyway here are some progress pics....

This is the brass axel I installed, as otherwise the nose wheel would have to have beein installed at the same point that I assembled the nose gear, not something that I fancied!

This is the scratched interior to the gun bay door. The kit original looks OK, till you look at pics of the real thing. I't just made of styrene strip and the corners of Post-it notes!

Obviously the engine!Big Smile [:D]

The 100 parts should arrive later this week, so the 162 should be complete next weekend.
