Jay, You’ll be find I won’t count you out. BTW how are the Fw-190 D’s coming along?
The outer wings were painted this way so if the Aircraft were on the deck with wings folded they would be less visible.
Regards, Rick

yup. they would be the same for an Avenger of the same period... Dark Sea Blue on top, a pattern of intermediate blue on the sides (like on the online build) and white on the bottom...
Here's a restoration with the basic idea but I would search on google images for actual wartime shots to get it right... (and yeah the outer parts of the undersides of the wings would be painted like in the picture... )
The switch has been made. Got you down for a F4F-4 Wildcat. BTW enjoy building the Vindicator.
espins1 wrote:Ok, it's official. I made my decision and picked up the kit today. I'm doing the 1/48 Accurate Miniatures SB2U-3 Vindicator. As it stands right now the build will be OOB with the markings that came in the kit, a marine version based on Midway.
Great! got you down for SB2U-3 Vindicator
Late war Corsairs were painted overall Gloss Dark Sea Blue, which is available from ModelMaster. The earlier tri-color scheme was also seen on some D models, which would be non-specular Dark Sea Blue over Intermediate Blue on the top side with White on the underside.
Great got you done for an F4U-1D
Are you using the kit’s decal sheet that is provided, or are you using after market ones? I believe the late Corsairs were overall dark blue.
It will be a 1/72 Tamiya F4U-1D. Yea yea I am picking the popular subject instead... but then again the aircraft kits I have consist a lil less than 1 percent of the unbuilt kits stash. =P
One question though, what FS color from Model Master enamels do I use to paint a corsair? I have dark sea blue from Tamiya acrylic and blue angels blue from a Model Master spray can... and they don't really look right. And what color is the underside?

Sorry about that. Some how I didn’t get you down or didn’t get a chance to reply, but to the Group Build!

espins1:
You can use either aircraft, just as long it’s a carrier aircraft design and it has to have World War II markings. For example, you can do a Corsair in Marine markings; this would work since it was originally a carrier aircraft design. I hope this made sense. If you (or anyone) have any more questions feel free to ask.
I'm having a tough time deciding. Anyone have anything to say about either the AM 1/48 Dauntless or Vindicator? Are they both about the same, or would you recommend one way over the other?
edited: I think I was confusing the Devastator with the Vindicator

That would be great. We’re getting close to March…
Oof! What the heck...did we just hit something? Ah, the front page.
Well done, wooverstone8, well done.
Building Now:
1/48 Academy Bf-109G6 - 100%
1/48 Tamiya F4U-1A - 5%
Upcoming:
1/48 Revell F-14D
yeah Jules - I wouldn't worry too much.. there's not THAT much to them.. just more than usual. And like I said, once you get the cockpit together the rest goes together in no time!!!
Which version of the SBD did ya get?
Jules - I wouldn't worry about time too much mate. I reckon you could put an AM Avenger together in a couple of weeks OOB. It's just that I'm adding the Verlinden super-detail set to mine. And, I'm getting about 1 hour a week on it at the moment. The fit of parts is so good even with all that detail packed in.
BTW, I'm just about ready to glue my fuselage halves together now. I'll take some pick before I do it so I can show it off. The tricky parts coming up though. I'll install the resin fire wall and engine soon.......
archangel571 wrote:alrite, I am in with a 1/72 Tamiya F4U. will probably make it a one week build for my birthday on the 8th. = D
archangel571 to the Group Build!
gwaihir wrote:I'm a little worried about the same thing. I was/am? going to do the AM SBD, but I got a little GB happy last year and signed up left and right. Now, I'm not so sure I want to go with something so detailed; I am a super slow builder! I'll definately do something as I a really excited about this one, but not quite sure what would be the best idea. Leon
It’s really up to you, we still have a little over a month before the GB starts and plus we have seven months build time, which is a lot (I’m also build slowly too). I think you’ll be find with whatever choice you make. But if worried about time, there are plenty of other good options out there.
