Yeah Pingy & Tom thats what has me worried, the time it will take to do the A/M Avenger, I have a feeling that i've already overcommited to GB's this year what with the superdetailed  HE 219 and 1/72nd U-Boat on the go.....I'll see how im travelling but i may have to switch to that fantasic Hasegawa Hellcat to speed things up a Little when i say a little i mean a little cause even the Hellcat will have an eduard zoom kit going in it....

Pingy--  I know.. every AccMin build I have done has taken weeks for the cockpit, a week or two for the rest, (with steady building) ...

but ya gotta love all that detail before you close the fuselage and none of it can be seen!

I picked up the Italeri TBF-1 Avenger the other day, so I might save taht one for this GB. It's a re-boxing of the Acc-min kit, so the quality is good (and half the price). I'm building the Acc-min TBM-3 kit at the moment, and the Italeri boxing looks just as cleanly molded. It'll definitely be done in the pacific scheme (probably tri-colour with the red insignia surrounds). Only problem is, I've gotta finish my TBM-3 first. And at the rate I'm going, that'll be some time next December.......

hey yall!!!  I haven't been around for awhile.. so much stuff going on with Xmas, getting the roof fixed and building a tank with more little pieces than I thought possible!

Leon - I'd be interested in an other than F4F-4 variant too... I've modded the Tamiya kit to a Martlett III and Martlett IV, which would be equiv to the F4F-3a and F4F-4b.  I know there are resin conversion kits out there but I don't like to do too much sawing and cutting on a kit yet until I can get some more building skills under my belt.

I forgot what I put myself down for in this GB but that's likely to change as I get closer in to the start date.  I might do an Atlantic schemed SBD... I've seen a lot of pics of that grey over white scheme recently, and I am developing a fondness for it!

Nice. I'll be interested in hearing how the fm-2 goes. I have only done the tamiya wildcat, but would like to do a different version than the f4f-4. Exciting stuff...

Hi all.

Just got my kit in the mail today. Here is what I will be building for this GB.

I’ll be doing it as Ens Joseph D McGraw who was station on the USS Gambier Bay. There was only two aces with the FM-2 variant, this pilot was one of them.

Jay, I will have to look around for decals.  FAA stuff is hard to come by in 1/72!  Could always print my own I suppose.

Cool Dave, are you going to do the Hellcat as Atkinson's?

Wooverstone8 you can put me do as a fer sure.  I just ordered the Hobby Craft British Commonwealth Corsair.  I'll be doing it as Lt Hammy Gray's bird when he was postumously awarded the VC for attacking and sinking a Japanese destroyer on his own.

Yeah a few of us Aussies have banded together and have made large orders from SQD to take advantage of the free postage, as far as great models goes i know Darren AKA darson from Melbourne usually orders from them so they definatly send OS but i personally have never used them......

I never knew Squadron sent stuff overseas. I wonder if Great Models does the same. Have you tried Great Models? They may have the items you’re searching for. They also have a 1-800 number which is nice if you do all of your shopping by phone.

Leon - once again you come through!  Nice pics on that article.. there's probably a lot of WWII A/C we never knew flew off a carrier that did... I mean, P-51's, P-47's, Spitfires, etc... back then it was improvise and overcome...

Those two pictures are very interesting. I remember reading somewhere about a P-47 being used as an experimental carrier aircraft. These are the first pictures I’ve seen so far. The P-47 is a good aircraft but I don’t think would have made a good carrier fighter aircraft due to it’s massive size and weight.

I think we have a few members that wanted to try something different. This is a possible idea for them.

Thanks for posting the pictures and btw you find really interesting stuff, keep them comingBig Smile [:D]

Cool. I would like to see some progress pictures of your Avenger and the completed cockpit.

BTW the detail you have in the bomb bay, is that AM stuff or scratch built?

I'm finally getting some progress going on my Avenger too. Might even be able to post some pics of the completed cockpit in a month or twoWink [;)] Hopefully by the end of the week Approve [^] So far I'm pretty happy with how it's all turning out. There's lots of detail painting to do on this kit, especially all the wires in the bomb bay......

Welcome back Spit9! I apologize for the long reply, been busy w/school work.

I made some progress in my Hellcat, but my conection is to slow now and cannot send the pics of the almost finished cockpit (that are finished allready) to Jay so he could post them here.  Tehe fuse is allready  glued toguether and also the wings are glued to the fuse and ready for some putty in the joints.

That’s too bad, I wanted to see more progress pictures of your Hellcat, the pictures that were posted looked pretty good. Whenever you can, try to get those pictures up so we can see more of your work.Wink [;)] From the progress it sound like have quite a lot done there w/ the Hellcat.

BTW don’t worry about the began date, It’s a long group build and I’m sure you’ll kit in time for the build.

Hey guys!!

Been abcent for a while, but now i'm back.

At the moment i couldn't get the Dauntless for the GB and if at the beggining date still haven't the model, i think i'll go for scratch built with wood and styrene.

I'm using my yahoo mail now, cause the usual is not working by the moment, so you can catch me through this address:  greycap_leader@yahoo.com

Yep. It’s perfectly find, just as long as the aircraft took part in WWII and has the markings to show that it did.

You think that is something.. you should be in the Navy and read one of their preventative maintenance manuals!!!  It could make a spoon seem like a nuclear weapon in complexity!!!

I know what I dealt with in the Navy was Medical equipment, mostly life support, but hey....  how many pages of manual does it require to just unplug the thing from the wall outlet????

Wow, that’s pretty descriptive. If they can make a spoon seem like Nuclear weapon, I wonder what they can do for chopsticks?Evil [}:)]
