Thanks one and all. It sure is good to be back. Tryin- this is the Trumpeter 1/32 kit. Rick - that is one sweet build on the Firefly.

Progress: Well, with work, a two-week vacation and the mind-numbing detail of Accurate Miniatures coupled with Eduard PE set, progress has been glacial on the SBD-5. Cockpit sides are finished and fuselage is assembled. The rest of the cockpit is still very much in progress and probably won't be finished till sometime next week. After that, it's on to the gun ring and engine, which are both kits in themselves.

Regardless, I'm still plugging away.

Building Now:

1/48 Academy Bf-109G6 - 100%

1/48 Tamiya F4U-1A - 5%

Upcoming:

1/48 Revell F-14D

I'm so close to having my Wildcat finished I can smell it!

My list of "honey do's" has been keeping me busy. Cleaning out the garage today, and painting the bathroom tomorrow. Hopefully I'll get some model time this weekend. Banged Head [banghead]

Yes, we certainly have slowed down a little. My build it temporarily on hold as I have gotten a little bit of steam built up in another build. I have the cockpit and engine done and need to pull it out again...

Well, just to share something - here are some pictures of my corsair engine. This is one of the first ones that I am really happy with. I do wish there was a way to get rid of the mold lines in the engine cylinders (not sure if that's the name of the silver parts), but I figure it is probably not viewable inside the cowl. Nice work on the engine Leon. You're correct, the pesky mold seams can't be seen in the finished model, unless you open up the cowl panels.

Dave, the kit is 1/48 Tamiya Corsair. Wonderful kit so far...We'll see how I can screw it up... Wink [;)]

Rick, Not that I am going to this time around, but if you were going to open up some panels, do you think it would be possible (feasible) to clean those lines up, or would it pretty much be time for an aftermarket engine? Someday, I would love to open things up a little...

Leon, It's possible to remove the mold parting lines, but tedious work. I'd use a new, sharp #10 X-Acto blade & gently scrape them off.. Finish off with a fine round rat tail file & it should be good to go.

Leon, man don't sweat those mold seams at all. The engine is going to be closed up inside, so it doesn't matter in the least bit. Keep up the good work! Your engine will look awesome in your completed model. Smile [:)]

Progress report: Gun ring and radio operators seat are finally finished and installed in the fuselage. That allowed me to install the rest of the interior as well, so I can finally say the cockpit is finished. Make a Toast [#toast] Whew! The detail between Accurate Miniatures and the Eduard PE is great, but it makes for a long construction process.

Next up is to get the wings on. I've started on the engine also.

So, I had my first major screwup on the SBD. Cut away the kit engine wiring harness, installed the PE harness, painted the gunmetal base coat on the entire engine, detail painted it, and (wait for it).....realized I had installed the PE wiring harness on the WRONG side of the engine Angry [:(!] Shock [:O] Censored [censored] Banged Head [banghead] Dunce [D)]

And we're supposed to enjoy this hobby right?

Mike - Awesome work on the hellcat, she looks very beautiful.

Rick- excellent work Fairey Firefly, you did a superb job.

I apologize for being gone for a long time and have not contended to the Group build. Last month my vehicle got into an MVA and was total out completely. Luckily my insurance company will cover my total out car, but there is still a big mess that needs to be taken care of before I start any projects. I just wanted let everyone know why I was absent form the group build for a distant time.
