Nice looking F4F Sean.  Hey, I forgot to mention this when I posted my completed submission...Thanks for a great build!  Would you consider another similiar build for '07, perhaps a 1950's time frame?

Thank you JoeRugby. I really wanted to be part of the GB during its peak, but kinda missed out though, but it’s still activeCool [8D]. The suggestion about 1950’s aircraft seems like a very interesting idea, I’ll look into it. I know there are a fewaircraft that I favor from that decade.Wink [;)]

An '07 Carrier GB would be very cool.  I'd join in a heartbeat.  '50's aircraft?  That's tough, as I've already built a Bearcat and Sea Fury.  Hmm, interesting thought though, to mix up the time period.

I like the idea of another carrier aircraft group build with a different theme, maybe dive bombers or jet aircraft?. With all the current group builds as of now, the best time for a start date is probably late 07. Once this build ends in December, I’ll see if I can put something together and make it workBig Smile [:D].

As for progress on the FM-Wildcat,. I attached the wings to the aircraft and had to fill in gaps between the fuselage and the wings using Squadron putty. Once the putty had dried, I went ahead and sanded the gaps I had filled and at the same I manage to break the landing gear carriage and some how lost the part on floor. I found landing gear piece soon after I have step on it. The part was twisted and broken in three places. I spent a good hour fixing the complex landing carriage. Most of the assembly is finished now, the wildcat is ready for primer!

It’s starting to look more like an aircraft nowBig Smile [:D].

One of the best parts in a build is when the fuselage and wings are all together and it finally looks like a plane.

Of course, the filling and sanding I'm not to fond of.

Anyway, Sean, you're clearly on your way.  Keep at it.

I ran into trouble while painting the FM-2 this weekend. My compressor does not have a moister trap and water got into the MM enamel "dark sea blue" paint while I was spraying the model. I went ahead and sanded the bad spots where water and enamel had mixed. The only part of the aircraft that needs to be sprayed is a wing, part of the fuselage and the canopy is all I have to finish. Then the decals (which is my favorite step) and a nice smooth gloss coat.  :)

Bummer about the water, Sean, but it sounds like you're on top of it and nearing the finish line.  Keep us posted.

I'm putting the finishing touches on my Spitfire for the Battle of Britain GB, then I'll finish up my Wildcat for this build.  All that's left on the Wildcat is final flatcoat, attach prop, drop tanks and landing gear.  Oh, and paint the canopy.  Should have it done by the weekend.  :)

My last progress shot...

I painted the FM-2 in MM "dark sea blue" enamel. I'm waiting 48 hours before I apply the decals, just to be sure the enamel paint is fully dry. I still need to paint canopy too. I should be done within a week.

Thanks guys! =)

I notice after I had taken the picture there are a number of figure prints on the wing. I should have wipe the model down before taking the picture lol.

Just about finished.  I would have had it done yesterday but I had to work Saturday, then spent all day Sunday putting up wallpaper.  sigh.......

I read good reviews on the Tamiya F4F. I can't wait to see your finish F4F.

I put the final gloss coat on to seal everything up last night.  All that's left is final flat coat and the canopy.  I tell you, this Wildcat is probably the be best kit Tamiya has ever put out, no fit issues, great detail, good stuff.  Smile [:)]

Oh.. and note to self.  Do not put regular masking tape on a canopy and leave it there for a month.  You can only get away with that sort of thing using Tamiya tape.  I'll have to search the forums to see how to get the little bit of goo off the clear plastic.  sigh....

Goo Gone or any cleaning agent with Naptha will work well.

Cool, I'll see if I can find some goo gone.  Once I get that canopy taken care of, this Wildcat will be done!  Smile [:)]

OMG, I decided just for a goof to ask some of the gals in the class I taught last week if they new how to remove masking tape goo from stuff.  They suggested goo gone but one of them said to use plain old peanut butter.

I tried out the peanut butter and guess what.... it works GREAT!!!!  It took the goo right off!  I dipped the canopy in future the other night and am masking it as we speak.

I wouldn't have thought to use peanut butter, but I'm not surprised it worked.  It was always a good home remedy to get bubble gum out of hair.  Big Smile [:D]

Ya, the peanut butter worked great.  Obviously you use smooth peanut butter...  LOL

You'll need to clean the canopy off with soap to get the peanut oils off but man, I was impressed!
