Hey, no prob, it is a cat, it was just us wierd Canadians whom called it the "Canso" and not the "Catalina".  I wonder why we called it differently, I think because we built them ourselves in Vancouver.

Jay If my memory serves me right they were called Canso because they were built by Consolidated (Consolidated PBY) and it was canadianized to Canso.  Can any one else back me up on this one or am I totaly out to lunch???

Jay here's what I found at http://www.warbirdalley.com/cat.htm.

"Over the years, numerous improvements were made to the design. An amphibious version, the PBY-5A, was developed in 1939, through the addition of a retractable tricycle undercarriage. The PBY-6A featured hydrodynamic improvements designed by the Naval Aircraft Factory. The Soviet Union produced a license-built version for their Navy called the GST and powered by Mikulin M-62 radial engines. Boeing Aircraft of Canada built the PB2B-1 and PB2B-2 ("Canso"), and a derivative of the PBY-5A was built by Canadian Vickers. In US Army Air Force service, the aircraft was known as the OA-10A (PBY-5A) and OA-10B (PBY-6A). The Royal Air Force's Coastal Command flew Catalinas under the designations Catalina Mk I/II/III/IV."

So I'm not totaly out to lunch.

Cheers

Yes but the question still remains as to why "Canso"?  All the other users till called it the Catalina despite different military designation numbers.  Confused [%-)]

Well-- technically I am a day late-- but it was too bloody hot to take pics until today.  I am having trouble deciding how I want to end up displaying this one-- might try to have a small ship model for a forced perspective type setup-- or maybe I'll just hang it up.

Anyways-- this shot is a little inaccurate with the incorrect direction of a dive and all-- but it shows the prop I created-

But-- this is a bit more typical of a diving dive bomber-- and it took about 20 minutes to setup-- so I hope you all appreciate what I do for you Wink [;)]

Progress Report:  I'm waaaay behind but I am still plugging away.  Looks like I won't be done until the end of the month.

A couple more things to add and then it's time to start filling seams.  Hope to be able to start painting by the end of the weekend.

Hmm renos... could be good, could be bad.

I am starting two weeks of holiday this weekend (whoohoo!Party [party]) but I'll be starting to redo my fence...Sigh [sigh] No sure how it is going to go as I need to fix my gates and replace some boards.  We're also doing a trip into the mountains for a few days so I don't think I'll get a whole lot done on my models but we'll see!

Thanks Dave, I plan on enjoying them to the fullest!  My Canso is moving slowly towards the finish line.  Well no one said the aircraft was fast anyway, what was their average cruising speed 175 mph compared to fighters at like 400mph?  Anyway it is now ready for a wash.  Smile [:)]

Ugh I just forgot, I wanted to put on some depth charges and I have to scratch them from some other 1:72 bombs I have.  I am actually not looking forward that for some reason...Black Eye [B)]

Thanks Marc.  I'm so close to finishing that I think I'll wait and take final pics rather than another set of "in progress pics".  Sorry to keep y'all waiting.Wink [;)]

About that "not working too hard" bit, tell that to my wife! Shock [:O] I keep telling her to take a nap when little Matthew is sleeping but she cleans, vacuums or folds laundry.  I'm afraid she'll burn out soon.Disapprove [V]

It is finished!  The Accurate Miniatures Avenger is a much better kit than I produced.  I had major problems with cockpit fit, which lead to fuselage fit, which ended up with canopy fit issues.  The large insigna decals started cracking after application.  Also, I misread the instructions, installed the struts on the wrong side, tried to use CA debonder (which didn't work but melted the upper wing, which I discovered a week later).Sad [:(]  Anyway, long story short, I hope to build another one in the future (not soon!) when I can spread the build out over a year or so.

Dave-thanks for hosting.  Interesting topic-maybe we can do it again sometime soon.

This was getting dangerously close to page 3 so time for a !!BUMP!!

Things have calmed down considerably on the home and work front and I've got my Ju 290 ready for paint (as soon as I do a little bit of masking). Hope to catch up to Jay before he gets back from his holidays. Heh heh!!

Hey guys,

Finally got it painted and all sugar coated and she's ready for decals.  I debated on what paint scheme to use, the RLM 74/75 over 65 as shown in the kit instructions or to go with RLM 72/73 as some people have suggested these aircraft would have used the 72/73 when they first started doing the Atlantic patrols.  In the end the 74/75 won out because I had the paint on hand and didn't want to wait a couple of weeks for paint. Smile [:)]

Hope to get it finished up this week.

For the most part it was a very good holiday.  I worked harder the first 5 days than I do sitting behind my desk!  It rained in the mountains which sucked but getting sick at the end of last week was the worst!  I'm back at work and hopefully will be able to get some modelling done in the next few nights.Thumbs Up [tup]
