Hey Jay,

Sorry to hear you had to waste your last couple days of holidays in bed.  That sucks!  Hope you are feeling better and that we'll see some Canso pics soon Big Smile [:D]

Thanks for the comments Ric & Bear.

More progress.  Stayed up late last night to get all the decals on.  Lots of stencils on the kit sheet and I'm a sucker for a good sheet of stencils.  Some of them seem a little out of scale though and I will difinitely want to do some weathering to tone down the colour of some.

Solid:  thanks for the invite.  I'll try to check it out.

Bear, Bob and Rick:  Thanks for the comments.  Not much has happened the last couple of nights as I'm trying to find enough of a balance between the reno's and the modelling to keep the missus' happy. Wink [;)]  I still hope to finish it up this weekend though.

Dave, great progress on the 290.

That is one big bird, very impressive.

Bob, looks good from where I'm standing, don't be so hard on yourself.

Jay, sorry to hear about the hols.

Would some HO model railway oil barrels do as depth charges?

Well, absolutely zero progress for the laast month so I will not be finishing the canso this month.  I'll just plod along and post some pics once I eventually finish.  Big Smile [:D]

Really, all I have left to do, if I can get around to doing it, is 1) finish the wash, I have half of one fuselage done! 2) spray on a dullcoat 3) attach the upper wing 4) Glue the clear bits on 5) weather it a bit, not too much as I want it fairly clean and then 6) add the fiddley attenae and such.  I still have to scratch some depth charges but if they don't get made for a while, I'm not too worried.

As you can see I am a stone's throw from finishing, I just need to make the time!

Being a new dad is very time consuming!  The "me" time has almost totally disappeared! But I absolutely love it!  Matthew is growing so fast! Before I know it he'll be running around the house! Approve [^]

Hey Jay, no problem, take your time.  I'm pretty much at the same stage but I will be gone for the long weekend so I'll be at least another week.  Hope all your models and stuff are up high and outta reach for little Matthew.  A Canso hung from the ceiling in his room would be asesome.  Wink [;)]  (until he is old enough to throw stuff anyway)

I knew I should've done the Canso in "Winnie the Pooh" markings!!! Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Thanks Dave.

I was almost going to be in Vernon in two weeks.  My Parents have a timeshare condo out there but they traded their two weeks for a condo in Fairmont so I'll be in Fairmont Sept 14-17.  Maybe next time...

Hey guys, I know I'm way late on getting my Helldiver done and have just accepted the fact that it isn't going to get finished anytime soon.  I haven't had much modelling time lately and when I do I think about all the projects I need to be working on, especially the Helldiver and because there is still so much to do on it that I just can't even get myself to walk into my den to work on anything.  So, I'm putting that kit off to the side indefinately so I can finish up my Bf109E-7 for the Battle of the Meditteranean build, my P-51D for the Allied Aces build and my Bf109G-6 and Bf109G14 for my Axis Aces build.

I enjoyed watching the in progress and final results from all your builds and you all did some fantastic work.  Thanks for letting me be a part of the build and sorry I wasn't able to finish my submission.

Hey Scott, Thanks for letting us know and we'll catch up with you in other GB's.  Post some pics when you do finally get around to finishing your Helldiver.  I've overcommitted to GB's this year myself and I have had to bail on a couple so don't sweat it.

As for my Ju 290 I am still away for the weekend but hope to get back to it tomorrow.

Watch it'll probably take me another month to do the wash on the upper wing!Big Smile [:D]

I sure hope not Jay!!  Shock [:O]  Especially since I am putting the finishing touches on mine tonight Mischief [:-,]Wink [;)].  I hope to have some pics posted tomorrow night now that I can do so from home.  YES, I finally upgraded to Mac OSX (and a new computer to boot) Big Smile [:D].  That's the up side of sending the missus back to school this year.  The down side is I will need to spend some time setting up the new machine which means less time to model Sad [:(].  That plus work and other family issues have really taken a bite out of the little time I did have.  Uggh! Such is life!

Sorry guys but no pics tonight, I was out of town on business until late tonight and tomorrow I leave again until Sunday to deal with family stuff. All I have left is to replace a small window that popped out while peeling the mask off and the antenae wire but now I'll have to wait until next week. Cheers.

Guess what! The Canso is finally finished and once I download the pics off my camera, I'll post some pics for all to see!  This one was a long time coming, two months late!  I started it April 1 so it has taken me 7 months to finish.  phew!

Stay tuned....

So here are some pics of the gal.

This is Mary K.  She was a Canso of RCAF 162 based out of Iceland.  She was lost on June 24, 1944 while attacking a uboat (U1225).  The uboat was sunk but not before it had done enough damage to force the Canso down.  It sank quickly and it's crew got into several dingies.  Unfortunately only one dingy worked and that meant several people had to be in the water.  The pilot, Fl/Lt. David Hornell gave up his spot in the dingy to the worst of the crew,  After 20+ hours in the water the crew was finally picked up but unfortunaley Fl/Lt Hornell did not survive the exposure to the North Atlantic.  He was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross.  He was only 1 of 4 Canadian Airmen to recieve this distinction (All were posthumous).  Enjoy.  As usual all comments welcome

Very Nice Jay and well worth the wait!!! Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]  (what happened to the smiley list?)

I particualrily like the wash treatment as it seams to have picked up the panel lines and rivets quite well.

BTW, did you catch the CBC docu-drama "Above and Beyond" yesterday and today?  Interesting story on the beginnings of Ferry Command out of Gander Newfoundland.  I particularily liked the part where the Americans showed up in a Lancaster, I guess they were trying to pass it off as a B-24.

Dave,

I was just cruising the boards and thought to check up on the GB's. When I noticed new posts here I thought I'd check it out. The AM SBD-3 I was working on finally got all of the parts issues solved but not in time for the end of the GB so I never came back and posted new progress. I figured it was over and forgot about it. Now I see there is still life here! Cool! And there is some very fine work here!

Anyway, I posted pics of the SBD is the aircraft section many moons ago.
