Well-- technically I am a day late-- but it was too bloody hot to take pics until today.  I am having trouble deciding how I want to end up displaying this one-- might try to have a small ship model for a forced perspective type setup-- or maybe I'll just hang it up.

Anyways-- this shot is a little inaccurate with the incorrect direction of a dive and all-- but it shows the prop I created-

But-- this is a bit more typical of a diving dive bomber-- and it took about 20 minutes to setup-- so I hope you all appreciate what I do for you Wink [;)]

Yes but the question still remains as to why "Canso"?  All the other users till called it the Catalina despite different military designation numbers.  Confused [%-)]

Jay here's what I found at http://www.warbirdalley.com/cat.htm.

"Over the years, numerous improvements were made to the design. An amphibious version, the PBY-5A, was developed in 1939, through the addition of a retractable tricycle undercarriage. The PBY-6A featured hydrodynamic improvements designed by the Naval Aircraft Factory. The Soviet Union produced a license-built version for their Navy called the GST and powered by Mikulin M-62 radial engines. Boeing Aircraft of Canada built the PB2B-1 and PB2B-2 ("Canso"), and a derivative of the PBY-5A was built by Canadian Vickers. In US Army Air Force service, the aircraft was known as the OA-10A (PBY-5A) and OA-10B (PBY-6A). The Royal Air Force's Coastal Command flew Catalinas under the designations Catalina Mk I/II/III/IV."

So I'm not totaly out to lunch.

Jay If my memory serves me right they were called Canso because they were built by Consolidated (Consolidated PBY) and it was canadianized to Canso.  Can any one else back me up on this one or am I totaly out to lunch???

Hey, no prob, it is a cat, it was just us wierd Canadians whom called it the "Canso" and not the "Catalina".  I wonder why we called it differently, I think because we built them ourselves in Vancouver.

Marc, it is not a "Cat" it's a Canso!

Anyway, I got more done this weekend on it than I thought I would.  I got the fuselage decaled and the engine nacelles put together.  I now just have to give it a shot of future to seal the decals then I can add a wash.  For the upper wing I still have to get some future on it so I can put the top roundels on.  Very close folks, very close...

Greetings All,  back from vacation (I should take those more oftenBig Smile [:D]) and a hairry week of catch up at work. Now for some fun catch up.

Jay a very, very, very, very belated HAPPY BIRTHDAY and great progress on your cat, how was it working with white???

Rick your Swordfish looks absolutly fantastik

Mike your Dauntles looks great I love the camo job you did.

Chris I hope your feeling better ribs and all

On a sadder note Dave I'm going to have to pull out of the GB Sad [:(] There is no way I'm going to finish the Lanc in the next 5 day's or so (I have'nt even assembled the fuse halfs yet) and my research is'nt complet yet (A very bad case of procrastination).  To add to it my aunt has asked me if I'd give her the Lanc to  go with the Halifax I built for my uncle some 24 years ago so I'm going to take my time and build this one right no pressureSmile [:)].  However I'll be around cheering on the race to the finish.

Cheers

I'll actually make some progress this weekend.  My wife agreed to babysit a 7 month old for the weekend, so I'll have lot's of time to work on my Helldiver.  I'm close to the point of being able to put in the cockpit and close up the fuselage.  I've been putting a dab of future on the instruments almost daily to build it up into a nice flat "lens".  Looks pretty good so far.  The seatbelts turned out pretty good.  I'm going to do a quick wash on the innards, but nothing too drastic as I want this one to be relatively "clean".

I figure I'll probably have it done a week or two after the deadline, which I hope is ok.

Rick, Great build Thumbs Up [tup] Thumbs Up [tup] Thumbs Up [tup]  The rigging looks like it turned out great.

Scott, moulded on seat belts are not my favorite either.

Progress report:  Finally got some more time in on the Ju 290.  I closed up most of the fuselage and I've got all the wings on.  It's a large model so the construction isn't your basic two fuse halfs and upper and lower wings.  It went together pretty good though except for the seam between the two fuse halves and the lower fuse/wing section. Sounds weird I know but I'll try and take some pics this weekend.

I made seatbelts for the Helldiver and I must say it's much easier than I expected (my first time).  I simply used some Tamiya masking tape, folded it in half, then used a credit card as a straight edge and a fresh #11 blade.  Worked great!  I painted them off white.  I was surprised that they were so easy to paint.  I stuck them all in a little pinching type clamp I have and painted them with Tamiya Acrylic white with a bit of buff mixed in to make them off white.

Now.... a complaint about the Accurate Miniatures 1/48 SB2C-4 Helldiver kit.  Why on earth would they provide a great PE set with all the seatbelt buckles and harnesses...... but then mold seatbelts onto the seat?!?  So in order to use them, I need to somehow scrape, cut and sand them off.  grrrrrrrrr  Angry [:(!]

Finished my Build this morning.  The model represents "Queenie" from the 825 Squadron aboard the carrier HMS Victorious.  This aircraft is believed to have hit the ill-fated German battleship Bismark with a torpedo on May 24, 1941.  She ended her sevice career with 833 Squadron in Jamacia.

Regards,  Rick
