Joe, Marc, Thanks Guys.

Making some progress on getting the airframe assembled.  Fit aint great, but that's the way it goes with Classic Aiframes kits Sad [:(].  Should have some pics in a couple of days.

Regards,  Rick

More progress made Smile [:)].  The airframe is now assembled.  Lots of seam work & re-scribing lost detail still required, but for a CA kit, it's moving along.

At least you can see the simple but graceful look of this classic warbird.

Nice looking build you have there Rick. When you say classic you mean in an obscure sort of way right? I admit that jets are not my thing once you get past WWII but this is one I have never seen before?!?!?

Nice Rick...those older jets always have a unique "personality".  Thier silohuettes do have an animal look to them...like the Skynight looking like a whale, killer whale that is...The Attacker seems to be in the same vein.

Dave, Joe,  Thanks guys.  It is a sorta obscure aircraft, but as one of Supermarine's last, I think it deserves it's place in history.  When it's done, I'll pose it with some of my Spitfire models.

Simple but graceful is an apt description.  The vertical stab looks more of an after thought though.  Nice Progress Rick

Mine's going OK.  Filled, sanded & primed.  Waiting for the primer to completely cure.  Have some seam touch-up work to do & re-scribe some lost detail.  Hope to get some color on her this weekend.

What type of primer are you using?  If it is the Mr. Surfacer what cure times have you experienced and does it vary by the grit/grade?

I use Floquil gray primer.  It's an enamel, but I always let it cure for at least 48 Hrs.

In some old adventure movies they show the hero of the movie enslaved on some galley, pulling on his oar day and night...ugh!

Not that I am any sort of hero but that is how I feel right now with my Vampire!  I have 90 minutes (estimated) to complete it and can not seem to get there...other builds are getting cranked out, but not this one for some reason...any one else feeling this way?

I know what you meen Joe.  I thought I had the Attacker ready for final paint & then a fuselage seam simply opend up.  I have no idea why, but it seems that the Tenax I used to glue may not have worked well with the styrene used by Classic Airframes on this kit.  Never had the problem before, but I've been forced to go back over all the joins with CA, which then involves a lot more sanding & re-doing more lost detail.  About back to where I was a week ago, but it's been frustrating.

Regards,  Rick

I wish we could post sound files here...I would put up the sounds of brakes squealing and metal grinding...just a idea of where I am on the 90 minutes till I finished!

Okay...DONE (no kidding!)  During commercials last night watching the Steeler game I got it finished.  Not too exciting, but it is done.  I am also going to use it for the Airfix GB.

We have under thirty days to completion on this build, how is every one doing?

Finally unpacked and cleaned out my airbrush last night.  Have lost a lot of stuff (just where is my half built Tiran 5 for the IDF build?) in the move, but the box with the Gloster Whittle is on my desk, and building should recommence this weekend!

Doesn't this build end November 1st?  Today is September 8th.  So from today we still have 54 days including Nov. 1st.  I just about had a panic attack when you said we have less than 30 days to go.  Shock [:O] Dead [xx(] Laugh [(-D]

Or rather, this morning...!  At least I discovered why I stopped building (moving aside).  Yep, that plastic the Red Russians used in those days was awful!  Trying to get the tailplanes to stay stuck to the fuselage is awful.  Quite a few marks (and memories) from 6 months back.  This time I used Zap glue to stick it (slow glue), but as this wasn't so good, I then used Mek-Pak, and now it's good.  Slightly rough, but once painted should be OK.  Now for the other tailplane.

Edited to add: added in the other tailplane, and the fin, but then the gear doors fell off, and examining the bits, I discovered I'm missing a main gear wheel....

Good to hear your back into the Whittle Osher!

I am just returned from four days of continuing education, second of three classes for this year, then one more in December.

I have not gotten around to posting my pics yet...will do so shortly.

Looking forward to seeing every one's progress.

Hey Joe, I'm going to have to drop out of this GB.  I overcomitted myself to GBs so I'm thinning the stack a bit so I can get some breathing room.  Also my modelling time has been less than normal the past 2 months, and we're entering the final phase of our remodelling of our house (retiling the bathroom, new carpet in the master bedroom and guest room, repainting master bedroom and guest room).  We start up work towards the end of the week with getting all the supplies (tile, carpet, paint etc.) and work begins in earnest next week.

Last week we had a sewer line disaster at our rental property so I spent 3 days of vacation time digging a 40 foot trench, approx 3 feet deep.  Fun stuff.......

Anyway, my apologies and look forward to see you all in some of the other builds.  Smile [:)]

Hey Joe,

I too have overcommitted to GB, or rather, real life has intruded on my overly optimistic expections of free time to build models.  I will not be able to complete my build but look forward to meeting up with everyone in future GB's.

Pity, some more people leaving the GB...  Whittle is coming on.  Cockpit painted (or rather, an empty space, is now a black empty space), as is the seat (or rather, a dwarfish angled bit of something).  Both are pure matt black (Perkins no.33 matt black).  Canopy is yellowed, but looking better for being Kleared.  Masking should be, eh hum, fun...  Underside a tad rough but reasonable, in it's Perkins no. 24 trainer yellow.  Just a pity missing a wheel...  Going to be painting a few aicraft at the same time this weekend, as all have the same colour scheme: dark earth/dark green.  Oh yes, decals have gone walkies too, so, will probably sign out missing decals and a wheel.  Still, it'll be done!
