If things go well next week, I may pop back into the build.  I'll have limited time and access to my hobby stuff.  I'll let you know towards the end of next week, but assume I'm out for now.

Hey Joe,

I too have overcommitted to GB, or rather, real life has intruded on my overly optimistic expections of free time to build models.  I will not be able to complete my build but look forward to meeting up with everyone in future GB's.

Understood...real life keeps popping up all too often!  Just got up from the workbench after two and one half hours!  Amazing, and I am truly grateful for it!  First Tuesday night in the fall for 19 years that I did not spend it trundling around a training field.  I do miss it, but only in the most detached sort of way.

I am sure we will be seeing/talking/corresponding in another Group Build in the future!

For some reason I thought this GB finished at the end of October (is that the BoB GB?).  Anyway, I've sprayed the underside again, as it was looking a little ragged.  Then, the dark green.  I used an old Perkins tin, but nicely thinned, it seemed to be OK.  First coat was, hmm, varied, so, on with a second coat, which looked great, and so matt, pity I needed to Future/Klear it.  A few bits missed.  Anyway, here is a new rule for modelling:

Make sure your hands are really really cleaned after eating southern style fried chicken.  Yep, put a dirty paw mark on it.  Luckily, it was an areas to be over painted brown, but, I realised I forgot to Future it before penciling on the camo marks.  OK, well, I brewed up too much green, and decantered it in to an old Humbrol tin, so, let's spray again, and do it properly this time.  Hmmm, half done, and looking good.  Then, no paint.  Yikes!  OK, so, let's fiddle with the needle, and whoa!  Paint!  Except, paint, and something else...yes, there was a blockage, which is now a feature of one wing.  Just hope it dries OK, then, coat it again...  I took that air-spray apart, and found small bits in one tube.  Now's it clean!  However, I suspect that it might have been lumps of paint.  Oh well, let's try again!

I am finished with this but I had to take the picture with my phone (misplaced the camera).

For some reason I had the most difficult time staying motivated  for this build.  Usually I crank them out pretty good, about six weeks start to finish on an ootb but not this one.

Thanks to all of the participants.

Next year there will not be an OOTB GB.  I figure to take a break from Group builds in 2007 to go at a more leisurely pace and work some things I have been wanting to do for some time.

I will post the absoultely awful phone photo tonight.

I hear you Joe... LOL, I made the mistake of taking on way too many this summer and with limited time and so much work to do it begins to get stressful.  I'm kind of an obsessive compulsive builder and being confined to the structure of so many GBs prevents me from working on some of the things I want to work on.  Now I only work on 1 or 2 kits at a time and it's soooo much more relaxing.  :D

Scott,

I know what you mean.  Just recently I had a feeling like it was "work".  This coming from the desire to be a good participant and meet the deadline(s).  Not that any one would especially mind a missed dead line, nut I guess I am anal retentive.

On the other hand...having a target at least makes me try and finish something!

OK, the problem I had was that a bit of thread (from my shirt?) fell into the paint.  It was then sucked up into the airbrush.  Some of it came out with the paint, and so, onto one wing.  The rest just clogged up the airbrush.  Any it's dried reasonable.  So, onto applying Future/Klear, then the camo.  I've still never mastered how to camo sqiggly lines, and being British, with an affinity for RAF stuff, it's a real hassle!

Oh!  Just realised, missed the deadline for this GB!!!  Will post finished pics shortly!  Still mastering the art of hard-edged camo, but, coming along, next one will be better!

Well, this GB is over, but I'll still finish up my build.  Had to set this one aside for a while, but it's now #1 on my bench.  Got the basic painting of the airframe complete & ready for decals.

Was surprised to see this GB at the top of the list.

But not surprised to see the quality of your work Rick.  Lookin' good.

Ric, nice looking build and a beautiful looking aircraaft.

Wow, I thought this thread was dead and gone but since Ric has resurrected it and plans to finish I thought I'd share my progress on my Meteor that I have since re-assigned to the (premature) Airfix farewell GB.  Just the undercarriage and one or two (this airfix afterall) fidley bits left.  This is done in the markings of the first Jet to fly in Canada (EE311) shortly after the war.

A little more progress on the Attacker.  Decals now on & top coated.  Next some very light weathering & final assembly.

That Attacker looks superb, and it's a great looking aircaft (pity it wasn't so good in service, but that's another story)

Finally managed to photgraph my Chematic ex-Novo ex-Frog Gloster Whittle/Pioneer.  It's not so good, but this was a steep learning curve for me on masking hard-edged wavy camo.  There's quite a bit of seepage, and poor masking.  Managed to get the body to fit well, and the canopy masking was actually not bad.

Thanks Osher.  Your Whittle looks good for your first try at masking hard edge disruptive camo.  I don't use tape anymore, as I've learned to love BluTac.

Well this one is finally finished.  The Royal Navy's first jet can now be added to my collection.

Thanks Joe for hosting this GB.  It was a very interesting topic & I learned from it.  Sorry I finished so late, but other things got in the way.

Well done Ric as always.  Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]  I really like the looks of this aircraft.  Something about those early jets that just appeal to me.

My Meteor is almost done.  I hope to post some pics later this weekend.

OSher, missed the pic of your Whittle earlier.  I still use tape to mask my camo but it is a pain in the butt.  I may have to give the blue tack a try one day.

Anywho,  finished up my Meteor today (how long ago did this build end? Whistling [:-^]) so here's a couple of pics.  Not one of my best builds but I enjoyed it and would do another one someday.  This is one of the betterr Airfix kits I've worked on.

As mentioned before this is the first Jet to fly in Canada.

Nice one Dave Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup].  Looks great, especially considering the age of the kit.

Thanks Rick!  The date of the kit is actually stamped on the inside of the fuselage... 1969!  That's almost as old as I am! Shock [:O]
