Hey, Josh, slight change of  plans on my Zero. I'm going to get the Hasegawa instead of the Tamiya. I figured for a little more coin I could have a better looking build. I will, however, still be using the Tamiya decals for Saburo Sakai's bird though. As soon as I finish my T-Bolt for the P-47 GB, I'll be ready to devote my energy to this build. Unlike some of you maniacs I can only do one kit at a time! Sigh [sigh]

Thanks Andy!

Well, all that's left is finishing up (the hard part!)

Changed my mind on my original idea for paint and markings. Decided to go with RNZAF "Gloria Lyons" (Ondonga, 1943) instead.

Getting started. I've gotten the basic cockpit together and the wings halves glued together.

If it isnt too late i'd love to get in on this. I was about to start building a 1/72 corsair. not sure whose plain or what model yet but im hoping to find something with an "odd-ball" paint scheme. If anybody has any pictures of Pacific birds with something besides the 2 or 3 tone standard scheme post or PM me.

Thanks

first off, Sign - Welcome [#welcome]to the GB! Also, I've seen F4U-1s in the Light blue over light gray(very early -1s), then the 3-Tone scheme (mid/late-1942-1944), and after that, pretty much all corsairs were overall glossy dark sea blue (Most F4U-1Cs, late -1s and -1As, all -1Ds, and all -4s, 5s, AU-1s, and -7s were overall GDSB, too. The 4, 5, AU-1, and -7 were all post WWII models, so don't worry about those.)

Current Builds: If I were to list everything I have in progress, it'd take way too long! Some notable inclusions:

Hasegawa 1:48 KI-84

Tamiya 1:48 P-51D (in Iwo Jima long-range escort markings)

4 (yes, four) Tamiya 1:48 F4U-1s (1x -1D, 1x -1A, and 2x -1s)

Well I believe I am going to go all out for this build. My new plan is to have a flight of  F4u-1 birds from vf-84. Original plan is to have them in formation with the 3 planes peeling off to chase a bandit. With the 3 planes being in different stages of the banked turn. Obviously one of the birds will be flight leader Rodger Hedrick in #167 and i have found some other pictures of planes numberd 107 and 183. It seems i can not find any information as to who these planes belonged to. If anybody knows of any good reference sites for vf-84 please post them or PM me.

Thanks, Steve

Is it too late to get in on this GB?  I have an Eduards 1/48 P-40N that I want to put 49th FG markings on.

Since VF-84 was on the CV-17 Bunker Hill, I tried a google search on 'USS Bunker Hill' and found this:

It's page you join to post and request information. Maybe you can contact someone their to point you in the right direction.

Callin’ this one done! A Hasegawa P-40E impersonating a P-40N named “Gloria Lyons”, No. 4 Servicing Unit, RNZAF, based at Ondonga in 1943.

Not a great build, but I can see significant improvement over my last. Slowly getting back into the swing of things after a 10 + year absence. The Hasegawa P-40E kit certainly has it’s quirks, but a great kit overall. Looking forward to building it again and applying all I’ve learned from this experience.

(Yes, I’ll get the remaining little bits put on that you and I both just noticed are missing Wink [;)] )

Thumbs Up [tup]Cool [8D]Looks pretty good! I just recently did some more wors on my corsair, but have'nt gotten around to taking any pictures. Basically, I've got most of the painting and decaling done, it's done as an a/c from I believe VMF-211 (not too sure about that though, I'll check later.), coded "276", from a pretty famous picture of two birds warming up for another mission. I'll try to get a few pix posted soon.

figured i'd post some progress of where i am right now with my f4u-1a's. Originally there were going to be 3 carrier based birds made to look like they were flying in formation. This has since changed and it is going to be two Marine corsairs from the blacksheep. The base will be of a pacific island staging and refueling area. Here is what i have so far.

Hope you like em

Dave, nice looking P-40... it's good to see one done up with an "out of the norm" paint scheme!

Toother, I like what you're doing with the multi-plane dirorama. Keep posting pics!

Thanks Toother.

This looks like a good kit. I can't understand though why the price of this and the Tamiya A6M2 is so cheap ($12.00) compared to there other kits. They seem to be of the same quality as there other kits. Oh well, I really like this it and looks like it will turn out to be a fine little plane. Very interesting researching the Japanese aircraft too.

Zip,

Now the big question: What color did you use on the cockpit? Sometimes a paralyzing decision for IJN and IJA aircraft modelers. Seems to be more interest in this area. I've studied lots of on-line articles and forums for what to use on my 'George'. In the end, I'm just going to wing-it.

By the way, the cockpit look terrific!
