I understand that the 1/35 scale kit is a 80' Elco.

I have on order (from Hannants in the UK) a 1/72 Italian MAS PT boat from Italeri which I believe will be release mid-May.

It's a late war '80 Elco. Someone posted here (in ships) about it not too long ago. Gonna be a decent size kit thoSmile [:)]

I'll almost certainly be joining this GB, though I usually post on Modelwarships.com! Not sure what I'll build yet as I have quite a few suitable kits in the stash (Revell and Airfix S-boats, Revell PT, Airfix Vosper and Tamiya Perkasa). I've already built the Revell Vosper MTB; it's what got me interested in ship modelling in general and large-scale subjects in particular.
I'm inclined towards picking the Revell S-100 - I've built so many old kits recently that it'd make a nice change to build something that doesn't require hours of scratchbuilding and superdetailing for a decent result Big Smile [:D]
On the other hand, there are quite a few other Revell S-100s in this GB already -  maybe the Airfix Vosper or S-7 would be a better choice?

EPinninger - the thing about the S-boots is there are several interesting color chemes you can choose from.  The Baltics S-boots had some very interesting disruptive camo on some of them, I'll dig up the refs someone sent me and post them here.  Also there is the opportunity to do a very specific S-boot that carried a 40mm Bofors on the rear deck sintead of the 20, it looked almost out of place it was so comparitively large!  Revell is also coming out with a new release of the S-boot with a quad 20mm mount on the back.

You can tentively put me down for this although I won't be able to start anything until July or August. Gotta house to set up and moved into. It'll probably be the R-M PT-109 in 1/72 but I won't be doing it as the 109.

I'll be spending the next week clearing off tables so I have some room to work !  WEM sets are pretty nice, just make sure you have some sharp nippers, and wear gloves !  The little  cuts will drive you insane...

Greg, I've messed with some PE sets for my 1/48 B-17G (eduard & Verlinden stuff) but, I am curious about the removal of moulded-on kit parts. Someone said the torp mounts gotta come off the deck along with the tow rails.  Instructions aren't too clear...Confused [%-)]

A dremel tool or the like works wonders for removing those racks, I use a sanding drum with the coarse paper at a low speed.I'll be doing the same thing on the fifteenth!

Hi

Armour nut jumping ship

I have just e-bayed the Revel 1/32 PT109, which is as old as I am, so not having boat refs, what books should I look for for for visible interior & details fit?

thanks in advance

Sign - Welcome [#welcome] aboard JohnBig Smile [:D] a Revell 1/32?? I never heard of that oneShock [:O] Could it be the Lindberg kit?  As for interior references, I reccommend the Allied Coastal Forces vol 2 by Al Ross &  John Lambert,  Also "American PT Boats in WWII" by Victor Chun. then of course T.Garth Connolly's PT Boats in Action for additional photo & historical referenceTongue [:P]

here's a pic of the engine roomTongue [:P]

Whoa! I sense some serious detailing coming on !  More the merrier, John, have never heard of that kit, but it would be stunning. Whatever you do, don't post the ebay address up here, you'd end up in a bidding war! :)

Hippy-ed,

you are correct, it IS the Lindberg 1/32 PT109, must have been having a 'senior moment'Oops [oops]

thanks for the superb pics & suggestions for reference books, i will be looking them up as i can.

Regretfully, I won't be joining you on the GB,

as I've got FAR too much to do, need to get some serious paperwork finished, I'm moving again, my stash is growing out of hand (again)! & the kit itself is a 'rescue' kit, started by previous owner, but mostly complete.

Also, i'm a bit obsessive about interior detailing, so i like to collect as much info as possible before i start!

Thanks again & gook luck!

Jon UK

ps is the new Italeri 80' ELCO boat the same build series?  I ask because the Lindberg 1/32 (?) LCVP is almost the dimensions as the Itasleri LCVP?

Jon, I'm sorry to hear yer leaving us so soonSad [:(]Confused [%-)] Do keep an eye on this thread as I'm quite sure you'll see alot of interesting ideas coming from usBig Smile [:D]  I highly recommend those 3 books (Allied Coastal Forces of WWII. vol 2, American PT Boats in WWII & PT Boats in Action)
The Italeri 1/35  80' Elco is a late war PT Boat based on John Lambert's plans on [iirc] PT 659 (co-author of ACF vol 2) There are places such as floatingdrydock that have plans for sale (see my link PT-109 in ships as they are in there)
I can understand what ya mean about wanting to get all the info before starting a build. I've done  alot on the subject of the interior & there's not much online but, the books are great & so are the plans. (I haven't ordered them yet.)
Good luck  with your move & all.
