I will not start until Memorial Weekend break. Have work and school to attend to. Have dry fitted and that is it.

Did see some nice Airfix boats over at airfix's galley www.airfix.com

Also noticed some unusual 1/72?, 1/76? diorama sets- beach gun emplacement and coastal fort.

How is everyone coming along?  My fingers are stained with red putty, and the dust cloud floating around my studio from the sanding could form a moon !

I started Vosper MTB by Revell: list of modifications is prepared, torpedo tubes assembled and wait for additional details.

Well what did I get done this weekend?...Lot's but sadly not much of it has anything to do with this GB!Shock [:O]

I'm un-announced as to what kit I'd be building, so I figured I'd better look around for a kit and some research materials or books. Well I found 2 of Garth's books here locally and fairly in-expensive they are the smaller squadron books. I also picked up the 109 kit ( Revell ) this weekend. I planned on ordering the Tamiya VOSPER kit, and I still might after looking over the 109 kit and seeing the potential headache it's going to be. My kit's parts have a ton of flash bad seam lines the list really does go on. Am I really up to all this work?Blush [:I]

So the kit/boat I'll be doing is still up in the air....I did notice the WEM PE set for the 109 kit. I've never ordered from them, or from overseas...period. Anything I need to be aware of if I choose to order the set?

So that's where I am, roughly half a step above where I was 2 weeks ago, which isn't very far at all.Blush [:I]

If you check out my thread in ships: "PT-109" (or go to the link in a couple posts above) you'll dind alot of info on the WEM Sets for the PT-109. I had ordered direct from WEM for the PE Sets & paints. I was surprised at how quickly it got here. The Revell PT-109 is an old mould (copyright: 1963) As for References, The Squadron PT Boats in Action is alright, ALLIIED Coastal Forces vol.2 and, American PT Boats of WWII is another.

This shortage of time seems to be a real international phenomenom.

I managed to get out and buy some plasti-card and the Airfix Universal Carrier with 6pdr anti tank gun over the weekend. I understood that the naval 6pdr and the anti tank gun were basically the same...(but)

Anywhoo....I'm going to give the parts trees a bath here in a bit, that way I can at least say I've done something!

One thing I've found that is worth it's weight in gold is the "mouse" type of corner sander...at twenty bucks or so, it saves a ton of elbow grease (especially for us geezers) !

Al says: " I understood that the naval 6pdr and the (Airfix) anti tank gun were basically the same...(but)"

The "(But)" is right! Airfix's 6pdr has more to do with pizza cheese strings than accuracy, it is a 60's kit, you'd also need to use the naval mounting....

I've 'done' the Great Little Ships site; emailed them and had a response (I'm not holding my breath that the 6pdr will be available during this Group Build). Whilst I have quite a few goodies on the way from them, the 6pdr is going to have to be scratch built.  There are really good plans and drawings in John Lambert's book of the Fairmile 'D'.

That would be ACF vol.1 as there's a great deal of info in it. ACF V1 covers the FAIRMILE A, B, C, D, F, & H, the HDML, and the 110' SC. Just thought I'd share this with the groupBig Smile [:D]

Er no. Surprisingly ACF vol. 1 does not have drawings of the 6pdr. I was refering to the 'Anatomy of the Ship' series volume on the Fairmile that John wrote

Al, you had mentioned the Fairmile D and that is whay I mentioned ACF Vol.1. I almost bought it when I had ordered the ACF Vol.2. I know there's alot of drawings in it  but, didn't know the 6pdr wasn't in there.

ACF Vol 1 was my first port of call for information on the 6pdr. A lot of information on the Fairmile 'D' is common to both books but the 6pdr 7cwt QF only appears in the 'Anatomy of the Ship' book:

http://www.conwaymaritime.com/book/184486006X

(there is presently a deal at Amazon and I suspect you can buy it cheaper than the recommended price on the publishers website).

I found this book out because I initially had grand ambitions to scratchbuild a 'Dog Boat' as part of the Group Build.  Given the time available common sense prevailed (I think!).

Al

(And off topic - in searching for that link above I have just ordered Al Ross's book on the Campbeltown)

Ok, so here's a question for the group...

Would a 173' PC-461 patrol craft qualify??? It is after all, a PATROL craft, it's just slightly bigger...ok, more than twice the size of an Elco...

I just finished my S-100 (1/32, scratch), and I thought I wanted to do another one...but I think I'm going to do a 1/96 scale (8ft=1in.) PC-461 instead.

I'm burned out on S-100s at present.

Nah, they don't carry torpedoes...ok then, no problem...I'm changing my entry...

Can anyone guess what this is???? :-)

Give up? Ok, it's an Italian MAS20 torpedo boat...I'll be doing it in 1/72 scale, complete with engines and interior...

Besides being in the D Anatomy, the 6 pdr drawings are also available through John's plan service - www.lambert-plans.com

I suspect he may have held out these drawings for V3, as the 6pdr was fitted to the BPB 71'6" MTB.

I was convinced the 6pdr drawings were not on John's website (having looked once).

Whilst I think I'm now committed to the Vosper Type 2, I'm still trying to hunt (garage, loft, study, spare room) for the Airfix Magazine article from February 1980 on the BPB MGB by John Pritchard. I've found an article of his from August 1980 on RAF HSL's.

You did send me the plans! (thanks again). I was searching for the original article which I am now convinced I must have somewhere.
