Hi Dan

Great to see you are still around. Thanks for the kind words. Your latest project looks pretty cool.

Thanks Luftwoller for the feedback.

Here is an update on the Wheelhouse walls and roof

Just a word on the wheelhouse, I didn't bother myself, but if you want it more accurate, you should make a second door for the startboard side of it.

As for me, yesterday I've started on the Revell 1/72 S-100, pictures will follow later Smile [:)]

PS : that latest project you mentioned is called : Align T-Rex 450 XL

Oke, just couldn't wait to add a couple of pictures...

On the above pictures you can see the bridge, two remarks here :

- you don't see a wheel : this is no lack in the kit, those boats were steered from inside the armoured wheelhouse, which of course since it's completely invissible when built, is not detailed,

- as there is no kit on the market that has no mistakes, the doors are wrong, the kit represents sliding doors as on the S-38 types, however the S-100 had normal opening doors, no sliding, but as this part of the ship won't be very vissible either, I won't bother with this error.

On the aft deck, there are placements for 4 smoke pods, however this number varried on individual vessels, so I decided to remove the two innermost placements...

Some more sanding will be required of course. Smile [:)]

On the lower hull :

Water in- and outlets as well as exhausts are represented on the kit by bulges, unacceptable, let the dremel come...

More to come...

I am working away on the depth charges.

I know there is much discussion/opinion over whether or not they were used etc

But hey I reckon they look pretty cool.

So here is some pictures of progress:

Hey, Forboy, I agree that they look pretty cool, although no photographic evidence exist that they were ever used.  I didn't put them on, because I thought the aft deck look like a neat place to put the inflateables too (looks more logicals than having to tilt the boats over the torpedo tubes in a hurry).

Looking forward to your next progress.

Anyway, since this GB is kind of never ending, I'll sure be ordering the new Revell 1/350 Bismarck as soon as it hits the shelfs.  If you haven't checked out the Revell website (Gallery for the pictures) you should do so.

I picked up a Revell S-100 schnellboot. This will be my first ship in over 20 years. Is there anyone who makes figures for this kit? I could have sworn that I had found some on the web but now I can't remeber where. Also is the kit fine OOTB or is it really worth buying the PE for it. That cost more than the ship.

Thanks in advance,

                       Mark

Hello, Mark,

The Revell S-100 is a very nice kit, even OOB if given some love and care during construction.  Of course, adding aftermarket PE brings this boat way up to the next level, but as said by mr Jeff Herne himself, even OOb this can be a showstopper.

As for a crew, I'm afraid I can only guess that Preiser would have something compatible, or you could use the aftermarket crew for the Revell U-Boot 1/72, at that scale you couldn't probably make out wether they wear u-boot insignas or other stuff. U-boot crews are manufactured by both, Andrea and CMK.

Anyway, feel free to grab the Kriegsmarine GB badge and join our little group Smile [:)]

Here are some shots of the bow pole and gun mount

Good to see some activity on this great thread.

Yes Dan I believe you need to invest in that kit.

Hehe, still waiting eagerly Smile [:)]

As for myself, I have been taking a long leaf on the KM (doing some other projects in between), but I will be back, since my darling wife has been nagging when I'll do some work on that nice little boat again Smile [:)]

Gday

As promised here are some update photos from yesterday of the E-Boat at early mock up stage.

Just to see how everything fits together and planning out the painting.

I am not real happy with the torpedo tubes they need a little more work.  Nor am I real happy how the depth charge racks sit.

By way of update I thought I had lost a part whilst the E-Boat sat patiently waiting attention.

In the weekend I visited the modelling area in barefeet stood on something it was my lost part. It was great news but "Murphys Law I had already started scratchbuilding a replacement.

Cheers

Hi, Gary, welcome aboard.  I know I have seen a 1/72 XXIII sub once on the internet, but I honestly don't remember what company it came from, it sure wasn't one of the mainstream companies though.

However, there is a 1/144 version of it readily available, very small of course, but of very good quality.

Heya Fordboy, what happened there with your lost part is a typical occurance to me, it happens at almost every project I do :)

At the moment I haven't worked on the S100 though, because I have been busy learning to fly my RC heli and building a wooden boat.  But of course, winter is approaching, so the good flying-weather is going to become scarse again, while building time will improve Wink [;)]

Ok, I'm in for sure now. Was over at Hobby Town, and they were having a "buy one and get another for half price sale." Picked up an S-100 Schnellboot (can you say all that really fast?) with the flak 38 in 1/72 scale. I'll be starting it after the type VII sub gets further along. I liked this kit so well after opening it that I gotta build at least one more (hard to find around here). They also had a Flower Class Corvette that really got my short attention span.

You know that the Kriegsmarine had at least two (that I know of) Flower class corvettes in service, don't you ?

I saw a type XXIII sub in 1/72 at the LHS over the weekend. Think it's from Special Navy, and was priced at about $70. The price was right for the Schnellboot, and have always liked them. That 1/72 scale is a lot easier on this old man's eyeballs. Wish Revell would bless us with a Type XXI and a Type XXIII in 1/72 scale.

And while on the subject of Kreigsmarine, I finally got ahold of a set of ULAD decales for 1/72 subs. All I can say is "nice!" As in "very nice!" But most importantly for myself is that the instructions come with very detailed painting instructions (camo patterns anyone?).

Been looking at a few pics of schnellboots for the last couple days, and there were some really wild looking paint schemes. Most are well above my ability or skill level (about third grade). But I'm just having fun, and in the end that's all that counts with me.

Oh Wow! Does this mean I gotta lay my pinkies on a Flower Class Corvette? !/72 scale at that! I can see it now; what with me singing "all I want for Christmass is a Flower Class Corvette." I'm begining to think that the year 2008 will be a very busy year for this old curmudgeon.

Been kinda watching your build with true envy. Am I right in thinking that for the most part your build is a "scratch build?"

I think I saw them on the CMK website awhile back while searching for U-Boat figures. Andrea may also have them. I look and post later on this. The best deal on Andrea figures I've found is from Squadron.

Special Navy does the Type XXIII in 1/72 scale. The price was $68 at my LHS.

CMK has thre figure sets for the Schnellboot, and Squadron has them. Didn't see any from Andreas. But Andreas has really nice U-boat figure sets. White Ensign also makes white metal gun sets. I bought the flak 38 and I see me buying at least two more sets for other projects.

well I just got the Eduard PE kit for the Schnellboot that had the flak 38 on it! There are two sheets of micrscopic parts! I can already see this is gonna be hard on this old man's eyeball, but still should be a lot of fun. Lastly anybody know who makes the correct propellers for the Schnellboot? The ones in the kit are not even close to being like the real ones.
