Bf-109 GB

Very nice looking early 109. Youve got that looking perfect scott. Top marks.

Ps.... I know i didnt enter it in the GB but ive got a 1/72 109 G10as...Could i enter that as a 2nd model?.

Ok, i know im being a bit previous here, posting pics b4 youve said its ok, but here goes. I was in my local hobby store and saw this plane. I thought i knew most of the models of 109's but this one was an 'A S' apparantly (Correct me if im wrong) it was just another larger HP version of the DB 605. Its a little strange in the fact it has a rather wierd paint job, camo. (Accurate, according to box art and Instructions apparantly) It doesnt have canon 'Beules' and it has 2 rather strange wing covers. Ive got to do a little more research on this model as its quite intriguing (To me anyway lol). Anyways heres some pics.

ps Carpet monster ate the pilots armour. Grrrrrr. Perhaps the pilot removed it to see better lol. And no matter how hard i tried i couldnt stop the decals from silvering.

Those large, lengthwise bulges/panels were installed to accomodate the larger wheels that were installed on that particular version.  The 109 had a notoriously weak and tricky landing gear.  As the 109 got heavier with larger and more powerful engines and additional armament was added to deal with Allied bombers, the gear needed to be beefed up to handle load.  

Take a look at say the Bf109G-14.  It has smaller bulges, but was an interim upgrade with bigger wheels.  The one you're building (Bf109G-10?) had even larger wheels, hence the larger bulges over the wings.   

Clearly at this point the small airframe of the Bf109 was past it's prime and all those fixes were more band-aid solutions when a new design was really necessary at that point in the war. 

I got some time the last few days to work on my 109b and g.  I got some more painting done.  The 109b needs a coat of future and then decals!  The 109g still needs the yellow panels then some future and decals!  I'm not too happy with the G camo/mottling.  when I put on the rlm75, it went on very smothly with nice misting.  When I did the rlm74 it was watery and not very nice, it splattered pretty badly and I even tried three different mixes with thinner.  Not happy, but with acrylics in 1:72 and with a single action AB I guess it will have to do... Getting closer.

Looking good Jay!  The 109B is the Hobbycraft kit right?  How is it?  I have that in the stash to be built some day.....

gzt, I'm not in charge around here but this is a year long build and I see no reason not to you.

I have the decals on my 1984 MPC Bf109-e and have given it a wash. The decals were horrible and THICK I gave them a coat of testors decal sealent and they still broke apart. If I were not so blind I probably would have put the decals in the correct locations and right side up. It's always something with me. This has got to be my best build and I will post as soon as finished. I still need to replace broken parts and give it some minor tweaks. See you soon.

I will place my Tamiya 1/48 Bf 109 E4. I have Techmod decals but not decided which one to pick. I am strugling with fixing my Spitfire first and I hope I gain more experience soon. I would like to make a camo like this one:

I am waiting for my pics to upload to photobucket then I will post my version of the Bf 109e. I gained a lot of respect for thoses who make the problem children kits look good. I can only hope to get better with each build. This was a total monster. The cowling did not fit the well detailed engine so I had to add strips of styrene to build it up. That meant that the cockpit had to be modified and the "hump" after the cockpit. I used a LOT of putty on this bird. I had to break off the rear rudders(?) and reposition them because the plane was WAY out of skew and looked like a drunk (not that there is any thing wrong with a drink or two or three or maybe a couple of more after that) built it on a Monday hangover. I think it turned out Ok. Maybe a little too much weathering. Oh btw I knew it as soon as I started spraying the matte finish. I forgot to mask the cockpit glass. I found new hope for us. I thought about a previous post about using brake fluid to clear up the frost that ensued. I Didn't have any. Liquid wrench works just as well

Ouch, it sounds like a really painfull project. What build is it ? Monogram ?

Here is my interpretation of an MPC Bf109e. The kit is from 1984 and probably explains the warpage.

The plate behind the pilot's seat had to be built with Squadron green putty then sanded and covered with bare-metal-foil

The prop blades have steel edges to represent wear.

I left off the gun covers to show the ammo barrels each hole in the cartridge was drilled out, along with the gun barrels.

Wrong decal on the left (starboard?) wing. The big white patterns belong on the bottom of the wing

The spring on the antenna wire is made from thin speaker wire wrapped around a small finishing nail.

I hated this plane, now I have come to respect it.

it looks to me you did a very nice job. This is  a huge scale :) I am using 1/48 - but this is a very realistic plane. The wheatering is really adding life to this plane. I wish I learn one day how to do it for my planes.

Woohoo, some more progress!  I finally got the future on and decals will be coming soon!  Once I get some decals on I'll post some pics of my Hartman Bf-109g and the Spanish Civil war Bf-109b. 

I am going to attempt to use the orignial decals for the Bf-109b, everybody pray for me!!
